Ford make cars for the Everyman, they always have. My experience runs from the 70's euro cars to the AU, but they've mainly seemed to have strong - if fairly underpowered - engines, countered by an easy-to-fix-mentality.
I'm not going to go into market-model specifics but Ford has always supplied the Car to fit the Market. They understand a "Drivers" car at least, Even my AU can still bring back memories of my old 80' tail-happy Cortina I just wish that oddities like the Mk1 Mondeo 4x4 or Granada Cosworth made it down here!

Have always felt comfortable in the Ford I owned ... like a familiar friend (mentioned earlier) ... have driven a wide range of vehicles in my short lifetime (so far) ... and nothing really compares to it (especially for the price you pay for a vehicle that is capable of what it can do.
Going from the ugly duckling AU ... but man ... what a driver's vehicle that is ... Ford got the balance and suspension/steering geometry right in that model. Then onto Territory ... I have had this now 8 years since purchasing it new ... and I still love it ... and it still does everything perfectly. For the price ... you CAN'T get better than this. Effortless is what this vehicle is. B-series utes (along with my old AU ute as well) ... all workhorses ... took the loads with ease ... and more than they were meant to ... still drove strong and worked all day without fuss ... being comfortable to boot. Even though Ford kept using the dinosaur-tech EGAS for so long ... they still managed to keep them running really without issues ... and they still had a ton of torque behind them. And now FG ... even though I'm into a base model ex-rental ... i couldn't be happier ... this thing is massive step forward in refinement and finish over previous models ... and the economy from a 4L 6 cylinder is astonishing too. Have driven many Holdens and never felt comfortable in them ... and mainly felt unsafe in them moreso ... just felt disconnected really. So ... yes ... a very happy Ford owner here ... still going strong with my 2004 Territory and now with my 2010 FG ... can't get better than this. Another thing though .... that has made my Ford ownership that much sweeter ... is the fact that i have found a top-notch Ford dealer/service department that always looks after me and treated me and my vehicles with respect. If it wasn't for Winford Ford (McGraths Hill NSW), my Ford ownership experience would never have been this good.

Ford Performance Racing’s Car of the Future program has taken another big step forward following the successful completion of the team’s latest test at the fast and flowing Sydney Motorsport Park circuit.*The test, held in near-perfect conditions, was the team’s first outing on a high-speed layout with its 2013 Falcon and provided the opportunity to test a range of settings.*Drivers Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison shared the day, with Davison spending the first half of the day in the car before handing over to Winterbottom for the afternoon.*Davison was pleased to spend so much time in the car and said the test showed how much fun the new cars are to drive.*“It has been another good day. Until we get here next year with everyone at the pre-season test we’re not really going to know where we stand but we are sticking to our schedule and everything is on track,” he said.*“I drove the first part of the day and then handed over to Frosty (Winterbottom) and we’ve both enjoyed driving the new car. It’s been fun to unleash it on a fast and flowing circuit compared to Winton and we’ve already gone quicker than when we were here for the race.*“We’ve undertaken some quick qualifying runs and some longer stints to get a read on tyre degradation and because we’ve had faultless reliability we’ve been able to achieve a lot.*“These tests are all about learning the car and how the rear end works with the new geometry and also re-learning how to make a car go fast given all the changes for next year.”*Engineering manager Mathew Nilsson believes the Sydney Motorsport Park outing has been the team’s best yet.*“It was a good day working on our planned program as we continue to learn about the new car. We focussed on some of the bigger changes to try and narrow the set-up window,” Nilsson said.*“It was a good opportunity to test at a new circuit, particularly one with high-speed corners as there aren’t many of those at Winton. It was also a positive day to complete a significant number of laps without a single reliability issue which is a credit to everyone at FPR.”*FPR’s COTF will now form part of Ford’s Australian International Motor Show stand where it will be on display from 19-28 October.Ends.FPR's COTF has completed another test day without issue

In 1986, I used to own a March '82 XD Fairmont Ghia. It was Silver with black leather, an auto 351 with about 80,000kms. It had the nice Volante alloys and went and handled suspiciously well. It turned out that it had been factory optioned with ESP suspension, so lucky me.
My mechanic was positive it had been tweaked. We gave it a run on a quiet road against his XD Fairmont Ghia 5.8 4 speed. Surprise, surprise, mine was quicker. To my mechanics horror, the motor appeared absolutely factory stock. No carb, inlet manifold or exhaust mods. Just one of those lovely, well put together Fords that makes you smile. Years later I found another the same, but in red. One drive told me the car I had all those years ago, was indeed special.
