this has been going on for years - wasn't it henry ford's idea that he could give the cars away for free and selling spare parts would keep him rich

years ago, ford and mazda's (and all the other manufactuers that share models) prices would be totally different for the same part. the strange thing was ford was cheaper for around half of the parts and mazda was cheaper for the others. certainly you should ring both manufactuers when needing a genuine part

with that thermostat housing, was it the one that the hose goes on to, with only 2 bolts going through it, then the thermostat and then the seal. caus if it is the i don't know where the guy got 480 from, RRP is 141.10 + GST, best i could do it for in $120 including tax.

We once had to quote an elderly lady at work $104 for her missing hubcap on her 2004 lancer (thats only 1 hubcap, not a set...) we ended up getting an aftermarket set from repco witch was almost identical (apart from the mitsubishi logo) supplied and fitted for a mere $14.95...

Thats more of a deliberate thing to stop people like you putting FPV parts on a non FPV. I dont mean that in a derogatory way either.

If there are parts that are extremely pricey in Australia,
and I can get the same part loads cheaper here in the states,
I would be glad to help.
I can get virtually anythig here.
This goes for Ford OE and Ford racing.
Heads, blocks, etc.
Shoot me a PM if there's something I can get for you.

I've found for most parts Holden spares to be very well priced, often cheaper than aftermarket, but it depends on what you are buying but mostly I can buy geniune and not leave the place thinking that I got a good deal. The couple of times I've looked for Ford parts (for Windsors) I've just left in shock :S, a pair of Heads where.... well I can't even remember but it was in the thousands range. I'm not sure if there are some parts that are well priced bt it's not looking good so far

(they can smell blood when you return) ahhh ya want the thermostat. No just the hose. He still hit me up for $36. I was frothing at the mouth, a small rubber hose maybe 3 inchs long $36.

For the same hose I went to super cheap and found a torana bypass hose of the same size. Had a very similar 90 degree bend so bought it for $10 and cut it down. That was 4 years ago and it is fine.

Ford Spare parts run on a random price generator. One day it can be $215 the next its $6.50, its more like gambling.

All you guys need to check www.rockauto.com for parts that are common to vehicles that are the same in the US as in Aus. Particularly, Windsor spares. Anything under $1000 landed in Aus is duty free and arrives at your front door in less than a week.
Many on the forum with 5 lt Windsors know that a Genuine Ford Aust Camshaft Synchroniser is $800 plus, but an after market one from rockauto is only $43. It might be a copy made in China but mines up to over 10,000ks no problems.
I also got a Gates timming belt kit, plus a Hydrolic Belt Tensioner, for my wifes Magna landed in Aust for $190. Over $400 at Bursons/Repco.
