Value for money brand new... simple as that.
Having said that though once I complete my degree and get into the field I'm studying for I will be on the hunt for an FG turbo.

Falcon............. i'm so proud of what Ford Aus has achieved especially in recent times where dwindling volumes are still seeing Ford/FPV repay the faith with the F6 and Miami cars.
But there is smarter alternatives out there.......... the Mustangs and Lincoln products are so far ahead in so many ways........ some of the features we are missing out on is criminal, compact engines, AWD drivelines etc and interiors luxuries. Mustang has the volume to justify cars like the Boss302 with Recaro seats, 2 less doors and killer body style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN9GT...7&feature=plcp As well as the 5.8L GT500 about to be unleashed........ 6 pistons, blown intercooled 351ci and 650hp standard!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nFfu...eature=related 4 door cars?........... low-spec Taurus isnt the only answer, check the features on this badboy.... AWD twin turbo, THX sound and laser guided cruise control anyone?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eYpH1UK2AY So i'm hoping my next Aussie Ford will be a Yank one! Daniel |

my situation is now extremely complicated which 3years ago it wasnt. Id have a ranger and a FG falcon for the wife....life is tough.
But i tell all my friends how good the falcon is in our aussie market these days and most have no idea about the power economy ability and the safety these falcons have. Most buy smaller cars despite wanting larger cars...but perceptions destroy any chance of them buying a new falcon. Focus seems to be winning most hearts around me. I still have hope for a new falcon oneday... |

Once I've graduated, I can't justify spending that much just to have it on 0kms. I'd much, much rather spend $30k on a decent used, (xr50t...) and leave $5k or so for mods. With warranties as inflexible as they can be, I dare say I'd rather have a used car.

Not for some time yet, if ever. Budget means I'm a used car buyer. That with a 100km daily commute, aversion to LPG and spousal input into the decision has lead me to what I have now.
Given that I have the coupe as my weekend plaything means I have to concede plenty of ground when it comes to the daily driver. If I want a new (or low km used) GT/GS/F6 I have to give up the coupe and that's something I'm not prepared to do. I'd love to go out and get myself a GS Ute but it ain't gonna happen. It all gets down to individuals circumstances.

I was in the market for a new GS or GT (new, demo, or low kms). The GT was probably stretching the budget a bit, and the GS only really had the motor going for it.
I ended up with a series II Holden CapriceV, standard features include, leather, sunroof, sat nav, dual DVD screens, front and rear park assist, reverse camera, auto rain sensing wipers, in car tyre pressure monitor, premium audio with internal memory to store CDs and the list goes on. Sure, some of those things aren't worth it and i may never even use them, but as a whole package it really stands out. The GS felt so bland in comparison... From a ford enthusiast, i would have preferred the GS, however, the Caprice just ticked so many boxes, and to a non enthusiast (the wife), it made more sense. Plus, i'm a fan of the LWB cars, it's a pity ford don't do one anymore. A LWB Fairlane with the current 5.0L motor would have been the perfect package for me! Perhaps in a few years FPV/Ford will introduce some more features to make them more attractive to the non enthusiasts. I turn my cars over every 2-3 years, so perhaps my next car will be a GT. |

This thread says it all..!
If we (the Ford Falcon loving Australians) are not even supporting the brand by buying new, how can we expect others to and therefore the car to survive? I see some validity to the theory that maybe FoA want the Falcon to die too. Look at the lack of marketing and focus on smaller imports. It all makes sense.

I'll be leasing a new ute early next year - probably an XR6T but I'll look at a GS - cant see me paying $20k just for a V8 though. I'll look at a Commodore SS as well - which is where my dillema is. It might be hard to go past an independant rear end (I dont carry much weight, but I need the space of a ute/wagon, and a 2 seater ute is easier for tax purposes) and a V8 for XR6T price....
Whichever way I go, it'll be the last of its breed and I plan to keep it a long long long time... |

I've owned 2 Falcons, one of them from new, and while Falcon ownership was a positive experience for me on the whole, my current lifestyle and needs are steering me towards a different type of vehicle...my next new Ford will most likely be a Focus ST.

The exception to this rule would be a XT/G6 TDi..she has this thing in her head about TDI's (old mans Golf TDi probably)..but a ZF TDi would be a great daily and we would forgo the manual thing. Me on the other hand, I just dont see the value in buying new. The only way I would is by leasing and AFAIK you cant mod to much and the greens are having thier way so the incentives are less. What I do plan for is a second hand (wow might be a tad older than that now) FG XR8 and rip the anchor out with some US muscle. The F6 is awesome, but Im not in a position to blow $60k yet, XR6T would be the only car i would look at the moment. And its a great car. If I decide to import a 11' BOSS302 stang once they come down a bit for my V8 thrills then Id look at a XR6T for a daily. Thats my plan anyway...but I dont know what state ill be in yet, let alone what car I will be buying.

The Falcon has been the foundation of Ford Australia for over 50 years! Do an audit of the ratio of threads here on Falcons vs other topics. We are not discussing the future of Ford in Australia here, we are discussing the future of Ford local product and manufacturing! If Falcon dies, so does this local connection. No doubt FoA will soldier on, but as an importer only. Sure, we will continue to buy imported Fords, but what makes them different to any other import? You've missed the point totally.

No matter what we do, this forum is not really representative of the real world (actually probably the opposite), as BOSSXR8 said, we could all buy 3 of them and its not going to make much difference. Its the non Ford people that need converting. That and the economy is generally rooted except for mining/resources..and people are a little worried...not a flash time to buy any car really.

Yeah this thread is about the Falcon ill agree there. But you posted 'We as Ford Falcon loving Australians' not everyone here is one. But i do agree, its funny the people that want it to survive wont even buy one. But as has ben posted it wouldnt make a difference if we all bought one really.

I think it would be a given that most of us here would buy a Falcon given the right circumstances. Those circumstances depend on many things more important than buying a new car to impress a forum. Simply saying that people should just buy them regardless is dead set crazy. (not aimed at you DJM83)

I think extolling the virtues of a car and overtly encouraging others to get on out there and buy one and then going on
to say you're "intending" to buy one in the next 3 years could easily be viewed as perhaps a little disingenuous. I used to live next to a primary school and their school motto in latin translated to "deeds, not words" for some strange reason that motto sprang to mind when reading this thread In buying 3 FPV's over the last 5 years It hasn't escaped my attention that the Australian made cars are getting further and further behind with their technology compared to world's best practice. Its also become glaringly obvious the the very latest product made by Ford Amercia includes significant technology that appear to have been deliberatly withheld from inclusion in the latest Australian Ford and FPV cars. If Ford Amercia won't back FOA with their best technology... Last edited by Rodge; 16-02-2012 at 03:04 PM. |
