Well downloaded the apps, map my walk and map my ride.
Pretty cool, tells you the distances you rode time route and calories burned. Hope its accurate. After an hour at the gym today i did a ride around my suburb which was 8.17km and apparantly burned 630 calories just for the bike ride. Would have liked to do more but wind was horrible. |

Yep get at least two flavours .. I like the vanilla .. There's chocolate bars I have in the evening were I usually get the munchies .. This were I usually fail and bad time to munch !
I find having something with the shakes " like" a tin of chilli tuner just adds to keeping myself content ... Otherwise I think I'll get sick of it .. Protein with little sugar, carb or saturated fats ..

Wow this is hard,
Along with my hour at the gym everyday, i have been going one 10-15km bike ride, and taking the daughter for walk after dinner, and i havent lost any weight according to the scales in 1 week. I have been eating a bit more dinner but its healthy dinner, haven't had any saturated fat in ages. But i find the more i exersize the more i need to eat, i am having a protein shake a day just to help keep my energy levels there, i'm buggered. I also upped the weights at the gym too to hopefully burn more carbs but havent lost any weight all week. |

Thing is- with gym and weights, what you should aim to do is to increase muscle. Your weight will go up. But that it good weight gain if it is caused by muscle mass. More important than weight as a health indicator is your waistline-keep your focus on that diminishing.... If you are able to increase your muscle through weights in gym, then just sitting on couch, your metabolism will be increased and your body will burn more energy just in idle. I think you are misunderstanding exercise. Exercise is done, cardio vascular- swimming, cycling, to keep your lungs, heart, circulatory system and joints/muscles operational, and to again increase metabolism, which again then burns energy. The biggest factor in weight control in my experience is what you stuff down your mouth. Limit what goes down, and what types go down. This, and not exercise, is what is the real weight control factor. In terms of food, think like you are a caveman hunter gatherer. Eat only foods you would get as a hunter/gatherer and in similar ratios of meat (more rare you would catch game) and higher percentages of fruit, nuts, and vegetables. Avoid processed food/drinks - modern poison ie sugar/transfats/high salts etc. If you can eat only food as closely resembling what you would hunt in bush or collect as a gatherer- you will be on the right track. I followed the above when trying to loose weight for rock climbing, and your body will get to a certain weight where it will set its own equilibrium...good luck

I agree with asagaai
and remember if you stay with smaller weights and more reps you strengthen (harden) the muscle with bigger weights you build the muscle size so don't increase the amount off weight too fast Quote:
but last nite driving back to perth late than home from work just kept thinking should stop and buy some thing to eat , but didn't , its always the hardest part when your board and minds able to wander well just bout to finish my morning pint of water than may see about the breakfast shake before I think of work am feeling slightly drained and with kinda lactated arm muscles this morning

I have been cut out all saturated fat. I haven't had a beer or stake in about a month. No takeaways or cakes or chocolate. The only sugar i get is from the 2 cups of coffee in the morning and whatever fruit i eat. I bought a steamer today and had Wa Dhufish with steamed veges for dinner, which will be most nights i'd say. Did cheat and have a banana sandwich after dinner though :( |

Steamer for the win! Just be careful what you put on the food after it's steamed. Some condiments that we grab can be jam-packed with hidden calories and nasties that will make you crave sugar, usually in the fluid form. How much fruit do you have? Also check the calorie content of the fruits (and vegetables.) Some have heaps more than others and even contain different nutrients depending on ripeness. eg a green banana compared to one going black. Once I used to have 3 sugars in my coffee or tea. Then I reduced it in small increments - I sat on 2 3/4 for a few days and gradually reduced it to zero ( take note of gradually here).Today, if I pick up someone's coffee by accident with sugar in it, it almost makes me dry-reach - In fact I cant even drink Ice Coffee Big M's anymore for that reason. 4-6 teaspoons of sugar doesn't seem that much in a day, but it amounts to a lot say over a six month period. |

The single best thing you can do for your liver is cut down on booze.
I thought I drank about the average Aussie bloke. Some years ago now the doc came back to me to say my liver function suggested I had hepatitis. It went down after some abstinence though. The liver is a remarkable organ and is quite regenerative but at some point you are done. It was a wake up call for me and I have cut down massively and have felt a lot better for it. |

well whist at the pharmacy yesterday getting more optifast so I had a range rather than the same flavours
we got talking bout a few things about it and got on the subject of the 2 cups of vegies she said its net across the board and your better of staying away from potato sweat potato pumpkin carrot corn peas but ok is eggs and like mentioned above the small tins of tuna (even tho not a veggies) tomato lettuce broccoli cabbage cucumber zucchini and other low-starch ones and what ever you do eat out of this is just to be the equivalent to 2 cups all up a day oh and she suggested calorie-free beverages but ive gone straight water even given up coffee for now and I have an expensive cabinet mounted machine so I love my coffee

Was going to post something about exercise and healthy thinking but then I read asagaai's post and he basically said it all.
I'll just add that Alcohol can turn the strongest man into a mouse and from what I've seen, it's more detrimental to a diet than all the junk food in the world. If you do drink, make sure it's in moderation. ...and smoking is a mug's game (coming from somebody who played that game) |

I am now 143.5kgs so lost another kilo. Not eating much during the day, just fruit or egg and lettuce sandwich, but for dinner fish or chicken with various mixed veges. No dressings or gravy. Thing is i have been upping my exersise by riding daily then going for walk after dinner, then i get home and i'm very hungry so i have a banana sandwich lol, next day i exersise harder because i feel guilty for eating the banana sandwich and some mixed nuts. So hows everyone else going? |

A lot of people make the mistake of assuming muscle burns large amounts of energy. They then go out of their way to eat more in order to maximize muscle growth, but inevitably end up putting on weight, not just muscle but fat. Like the old saying goes.. your body is built in the kitchen, its only polished in the gym. Get your calorie intake under control, and everything else tends to fall into place. |

I might have it. Well I just got my results from the doc yesterday and my liver isn't working as it should.
I know it's from the amount of JD & coke I drink. I weigh 115kg @ 5'11". This year I have been eating healthier and exercising more but I have to come with terms with the fact that my drinking is the issue (for the liver and the weight). I have not lost any weight all year!

Oh and the shakes are designed, in conjunction with the 2 cups of veggies (minimum, you can have more), to give your body all the nutrients it needs. Quote:
Unfortunately I let life get in the way after the 12 weeks and have put 10-12kgs back on since. I've recently started seeing someone and her and I have started setting some common health and fitness goals we'd like to achieve together. First goal is to be able to jog 5km together in 5 weeks time when she visits me in Perth (she's from VIC). So I've committed to the intensive phase of Optifast for the next 5 weeks as I feel I should be able to push myself and dump the 10kg (and hopefully some extra) in those 5 weeks, which will make the 5km run much easier. I'm playing squash every night this week up on site and will try play 2-3 times on my break and jog once or twice on break too. Generally end up running 4-6km playing squash for a couple of hours, so I should be sweet with the 5km jog in 5 weeks time...but want to get as fit, lean and healthy as I can for the gf's visit but also my Japan snowboarding trip that's coming up in January. Keep plugging away Damo! The way you're going about it will probably be much more sustainable long term. I made the mistake of going pretty much straight from 12 weeks of hardcore Optifast to eating whatever I wanted, so it's not surprising that I put weight back on. Need to focus a lot more energy on setting good eating habits once I reach my goal weight this time, as I'd rather not yoyo like this and have to keep using shakes. |

That's the thing getting on track with a good eating and excises regime after loosing the weight esp in some of the industries some of us work in and how easy it can be to fall back to the bad simple ways

I used to get this a lot when I quit smoking & drinking. Mates would often ask if I wanted a cigarette at work - I don't think they realised that it was a big temptation. It was probably worse playing gigs and practicing music around people who were all drinking and smoking on the weekends though... every time you say "no" it strengthens your willpower. |

I've just started with dropping the soft drinks, thats the only change I've made.
I just drink water through the day for the last few days, be interesting to see if I make any change in weight just by cutting out sugar and beers. I don't even have morning coffee anymore, I never usually eat breakfast, so I've started with a banana. |
