I always liked the Ferrari in "Ferris Buellers Day Off".

Because they just aren't practical. They are too low, hard to get in and out of, and speed bumps and kerbs have to be avoided. Having the front suspension lift that some models do helps, but not completely. Not to mention you can't fit anything inside them. Plus Lambo's are really wide, and not great to see out of.

Porsche is much more practical in these areas. The Lambo or Ferrari is more a once or twice a week car imo.

Not to say you couldn't drive it everyday if you were willing to take everything that comes with it.

But the Porsche is German and clinical, the Italians have flair, even if not perfect!

Have you ever driven a 911 hard ?

There is nothing clinical about it. Terrifying maybe...

And when you park them you come out dizzy...they rotate about a point somewhere 2/3rds up the bonnet.

Truth is I prefer hard driving something a tad nose heavy, they are just softer on the limit.

That's my thinking as well.

I don't doubt Porsche most likely being better, more reliable etc but they just don't do it for me!

I guess the Poll reflects that we all have preferences etc....

agreed but todays tech makes it easier per say to drive it daily but it all hangs out if your going beyond your limits no tech will save you then.
The brutality pedigree of a true 911 was back in the early days without tech, only the experienced driver could get the best of them then for anyone else thinking they did have the ability were found out really quick losing the tail that easy.
They were not good driver cars down low then.
Dogs to some but thats what made them great imo.
Ferraris were similar back then as well.

Looking at the Poll, Ford struggling a bit but stiff competition.

Am I the only person who'd much prefer the original GT40 to the new one? (I love the latter also just not as much)

I absolutely love the initial one.

For me it would have to be a Koenigsegg ( something else option on the POLL )

There is just something about it’s defiance and purpose and design all rolled up into a monstrous package that escalated beyond super or hyper car status. It’s more into “frenzied” car league.

Ever since the CCX nearly killed the STIG Back in 2006, koenigsegg has become the benchmark for me....
So right now for me I’d have say the Koenigsegg JESKO !

I near on agree re Koenigsegg.
I'm an out and out long time Ferrari fan as mentioned, they used to build supercars now and then but I reckon Koenigsegg is another level nowadays.
Absolutley mad designed machines and Veyrons also are another imo.
McLarens etc are not as appealing to me as good as they are.

I don't know about the waterbottles but the 90's last of the air cooled were still eminently parkable. Ex's father ended up in the kitty litter in spectacular and expensive fashion more than once.

The 911s were always tractable on road, maybe not the really racy models but the usual were fine cars apart from too many cylinders...The italians were ok as long as you gave them a decoke regularly. It was the bodies and lectrics that made them a pain. But then and now the ergonomics are back breaking. And our roads, forget scraping on driveways I reckon you'd be bottoming on our brisbane roads.

You know if you get a chance to check out a 60's ferrari take a good look at the chassis and body. Drainpipe and bodge. Enzo was always obsessed with power and speed but paid a lot less attention to handling and none to quality. The engines are like watches, the chassis are like Russian tractors.

Anyway I desire none of it anymore. I'm old and soft. I want a fairlane

Dumb me. I read the title of your thread as Ferrari or Lamborghini, and got all excited.

I recall an old Willisie story in which he interviewed one of Australia's first Lotto millionaires.
He was a Wharfie, and still lived in the same house and drove the same car.
When asked what was the best thing about being a millionaire, he replied that it was whenever he needed a part for his Valiant, he could just buy it without worrying about the cost.

If I had the money to buy a new Supercar, why would I do anything so boring?

Modern supercars are bought by three types of people:
1) Those who want to show that they could afford a supercar.
2) People with enormous wealth who collect them like matchbox toys.
3) A few deluded enough to think they would ever get the chance to enjoy it?

WTF would you do with a modern supercar in Australia? Take it paddock racing?

I would use the money to buy and have professionally rebuilt cars I actually covet and admire. And ideally something I would actually be able to enjoy taking for a spin, within the narrow confines available to us.

Let me be clear: What is the point in owing a Bugatti than can cruise at 400kph without breaking a sweat. How are you ever going to enjoy that?
I would rather have something where my knuckles are white and my bowels failing at 200. The most fun I ever had a s kid was lairing around in a Cousin's mini. I doubt it ever got above 100, but gees those corners were fun.

They have these things called track days.

Pretty popular with supercar owners to use their cars to their full extent.
