I must say leaving home to go to uni was one of the best things I have ever done. But most expensive. I wish I was at home because once I pay rent, petrol, bills, uni, etc I dont have that much left over to play with; and then you throw a GF into the mix :/
But I am happy, just wish I had more cash for the car!

Overtime is extremely helpful but you still have to be smart with what you do with it.
When i was 19 i was taking home $1300 per week for 4 months (decided to work weekends) and i have NO idea where the hell it all went. That was while living at home to (paying $25 per week board) Pity that overtime was limited. Very tiring doing 14hrs sat & sun though. Cheap option is don't mod your car. Anyone interested?? no? didnt think so. |

Yeah I have to work my old job as a casual (in addition to current jo) to earn any decent extra dosh. Plus with the mods I want next it's all big bucks. I can't be f'ked saving. Usually finance is the best way but then I get a grilling from the evil half.
The overtime in my current job has dried up. It's sucks.

I go to tech full time(3.5-4 days p/w) and run my own small business that doesn't really make much money but I get cash jobs that often pay pretty well, the main benefit of having a business is that I can charge what I want for my time and take time off whenever as well, so I spend a lot of time on the phone finding good prices for the stuff I buy which helps as well, plus if you tell them you have an ABN and run a business the prices drop even more! they rarely ask what you do or even want to know the ABN but once you say it they give trade prices and usually set up an account for you especially if you give credit card details. Having a good accountant is the key, if they are good, some well placed purchases help lower your tax heaps, not that I have paid any for the last 3 years anyway. I save everything I can, buy parts with a credit card then pay it off before it hits 50 days, plus I only pay 50$ p/w rent in a share house which is pretty good. The main thing is that I am STINGY as f%$k. When you drive a ford for work many of the parts I buy for my LTD can be used as tax deductions, thats why I need to build a ute instead of a wagon, then its 100% tax deductible, "replacement billet axles" 850$ tax deduction. Works awesome. Spend just under what you "earn" and no tax.

Plastering repairs and cornice, work for kitchen and bathroom companies most are a flat rate job plus extras and whatever construction work I can get. When the books say you have spent the majority of your money on the business or business related products, the actual income you earn is very low. Just have to be careful to keep the spending less than income or the ATO will F@#K you real good : : : |
