Only the time function appears to be set wrong at the moment Russ.

As the intervening messages disappeared I'll provide an update.

We didn't end up starting the migration until 02:00 and the data was all migrated by 07:30.

Unfortunately, the ISP thought it would be easier to amend the DNS entries rather than swap IP's which caused another delay while I convinced them that changing IP's was what we wanted done!

The change of IP necessitated a reboot of both servers and the new one came up with a "GRUB" error when booting.

I finally worked out that during the data migration, the GRUB (which stands for Grand Unfiied Boot Loader by the way) configuration file had been copied from the old server and the kernel files it was looking for did not exist.

They tried a couple of repair tools but they didn't work so in the end I wrote a new GRUB config file and it has restarted happily.

Posting is back on and all other functions will gradually be turned back on as I check their configurations. Expect some intermittent delays as I fine tune the configuration files and restart various services after doing so.

All in all, it wasn't as smooth as it should have been (the 10-12 hours ended up being 13) but it wasn't as bad as previous rebuilds have been.

If you see any strange behaviour from the forum let me know.

Cheers
Russ

PS: Time updated as well.

Seems to be loading pages very quick now, it will be interesting to see how it handles peak user load.

Thanks for the hard work Russ, looks good so far.

I actually had posting turned off for the main user groups although some were left open - as I didn't reimport the database any posts made during that 90 mins or so are gone - including mine!

Cheers

Yes we are - the config is only vanilla at present while we gather some data and then start tuning for optimum performance.

I've found one issue.. the green light under our name is still illuminated even when we are offline... i've already seen it pop up, and i can get a screenshot of it too if you wish?

edit: for example, i was looking at the WSID thread 2 mins ago, and it showed rickyros as being online (green light) but when i went onto his profile and it showed him as being offline since 3:16pm

Bloody GRUBS. All appears to have gone very smoothly really, and wasnt too painful. Pretty efficient effort I thought. Its certainly loading much quicker. I used to be able to right click the sub-forum in background tab, then open the tab and still wait for it to load. Now, I have a new game to play, try to open the tab before its loaded. So far, no luck. Its heaps quicker, seems the boost has been cranked right up.

Only issue I have come across is an old one. I can not click on the banner to come back to the forums when I am in Technical resources. Just needs to be linked back maybe?

Well done on the migration Russ. MAMMOTH EFFORT

I have fixed the subdomains so that they all work (aufalcon, b-series, oze-cruisers) but still have the following issues:

1. Mail from external sources not being delivered (mail from AFF seems to be fine)
2. Tech link back to the forum needs to be relinked
3. A couple of admin tools that now don't work

Cheers
Russ

Off topic a little. Why is it Russ that your online status is always turned off even when you're online?

If anyone is contacted by those having trouble accessing the forum it will be because their ISP hasn't updated their DNS entries since the (reversed) change this morning - some of the smaller ones only do it once or twice a day.

They can still access AFF by using:

Cheers
