The lack of a 5 door will limit sales dramatically. The three door looks better (I bought one) but didn't sell in any great numbers - that's why it was dropped from the line up a few years ago. So if you want a 5 door 132kW hot hatch then go on down to your VW/Skoda dealer....

I suppose there is a reason behind the madness.
Other than the quoted supply/demand issues, when you get the tiniest hot hatch in the range, it's not really meant to carry alot of stuff or people. The standard Fiesta already has pretty cramped and uncomfortable back seats with the 5 door. If you're buying a hot hatch as your only car and you need to carry alot of people in it, you're probably better off getting the Focus ST instead. 3 doors theoretically should make the car stiffer and handle better as well. The manual only option is most likely that the Fez DSG can't handle the power reliably and redesigning a whole new wet clutch system for the Fez/Focus goes into the too hard basket. |

We were so looking to forward to buying one of these, can't do a 3 door with a family on the way though. Hopefully they will get a clue and change their mind. To be fair I wouldn't have bought the Mexican built 5 door either. I was planing on getting in a German built 5 door. Will probably wait a while now and see what other companies can come up with.

Looking at the pictures, looks like its got reflector headlights, you'd think for that price you would get at least projector halogen lights, even HIDs.
The WS/WT Zetec have projector halogens yes? |

my missus loves small cars, but 3 doors are a pain in the ***. the polo gti can still be a hot hatch and be 5 door...... i wont be surprised if it ends up like the old xr4's.....
great cars, but half of them left on the show room floor cos they cant sell them... even the metal. very cool little hatch, but its a 3 door, and there are still like 80 on carsales... what a damn pity... cos it'll be a awesome little car.. |

I've just driven my car and the the Mrs. WT LX hatch back to back, and I wouldn't be surprised if the (unmodified) Fiesta doesn't handle as well or even better, so the ST should be a great car.

We have a XR4/ST in the family and it's quite a bit stiffer and faster around corners than the WS Zetec, both with similar 205 tyres on 17 inch rims, the new ST should have near unlimited grip. Don't get me wrong the WS Zetec is faster around a corner than 99% of cars, it's just that the previous ST is the 1%.

3 door = cool.
I will be getting one, wouldnt have gone 5 door if that was the only option. Much better if the mums stick to something more practical. |

You might but they are far from 1% of cars on the road! especially in country Vic. Nothing from FPV is as quick in corners, wouldn't imagine a WRX either, Lotus.. ok!

I'm very interested to see the specifications of the new car when it comes to Australia. Have to say though, the five doors looks just as good!

I'd rather a 3 door to be honest, I've got a 3 door WS CL and its much nicer than the 5 door in the looks department, and the door is heavy as, shuts with a nice thud, not a slap

Every other source suggests a 1.6L rather than 2L Ecoboost, and the rest of the Top Gear piece is light on facts, so I'd imagine the $25k is just a guesstimate.

its definately a 1.6 ecoboost (from a small suv, maybe the kuga?)
25K would be a guess for sure, sounds about right though. i hope it is the 5 door, 3 door looks great but after having a 5 door, dont think i could go back. |

I called Ford customer service about the Fiesta ST and they told me its a Focus I'm talking about not a Fiesta and they were not aware of any changes to the Fiesta lineup :S so that didn't help much.

Yes quite disappointing to hear customer service being so backward to be honest you expect much more from any company let alone a multinational. They won't stay in business like that.
They really should have been calling existing fiesta owners like me asking which ST they would buy 6 months ago... That's what a good company would have done. |

A June release suggests these vehicles will be going down the production line in the next few weeks. I would say they need to be completed by the end of March at the latest for delivery to Oz, then to dealers.
Hopefully the news hounds will report if they are Thai or Naz......eer....German manufacture. A sneak pic or two would be nice as well. |
