kbps: 721.6
KB/s: 90.2 Mbps: 0.7046875 I'm 4172 metres from the Brighton exchange. Can do a 1Mb file in about 12 seconds or so. It does really depend on network demand and the servers on the other end. In the Opera browser download speed taskbar, it can get up to 400 KB/s |

dialup for me....... : lovely download speeds of 2 to 3 kb/s.....it's depressing, satellite costs $1500 to install, wireless has a draconian time limit.......damn you telstra out:

Just an update to you Internet Junkies out there, seems I was proven wrong by my employer.
As of today, December 15 1300 WST, we have enabled 24000kbps on our DSLAM's. iiNet is the first company in Australia to offer these speeds city wide, as opposed to small pockets like some other ISP's Soon iiNet is going to have a wholly owned Infrastructure, which means no more customer pricing dictated to us via Telstra. That means very, very cheap ADSL2+ |

about time wholesale providers stopped using Telstra exchanges/copper network and Telstra install/fault staff to work on non Telstra customers.Instead of wholesale companies collecting money for nothing and riding the pigs back, will finally put money back into the country by means of infrastructure.
or when you say your own dslams,do you mean you will have your own exchanges and own copper network?,or still have your equipment inside Telstra exchanges.

After that had to get a guy in who charges $200 an hour, which got billed back to telstra because the fault was with the outside line. And I dispute the stuff about iinet. Adam was the first in Oz to offer it 24 Mb ADSL 2. Adam spent ten million bucks in Adelaide for it, and the first exchange was North Adelaide AFAIK (aka snobsville) |

And for whom asked, I am not too cluey on the infrastructure side of things, but I do know that we still use Tesltra Exchange space to house the dslams, but I think iiNet are now doing their own cabling :P |

im on the 12mb iinet plan which has been just upgraded to 24mb apparently, im reluctant to upgrade again because at the moment out of about 50 bandwidth tests, the fastest i have ever got is about 4000-5000kps - 1/3 of the max on my plan..
most tests come back saying anywhere from 300-1400kps which is pretty crap, even downloading from the iinet FTP i only get 500kbytes a second on average.. surely if you are on a plan that is less than the maximum capacity of the line, there should be no throttling to under your plan speed whatsoever.. someone on 512 should get 512 and only people on unlimited/max speeds should have their speed dependant on the network |

Then again, it's just like the 1/4 mile.. you just want to go faster and faster. : Stupid question time. What is the difference between ADSL, ISDN, SDSL and hDSL?? So many references, I'm confused.
