Caught up with Allan this afternoon. He has had discussions with Bonhams & Goddman yesterday. This is what there website says now about the Phase 3.

Falcon G.T.H.O Phase III
Bonhams & Goodman is pleased to announce the consignment of an historic Ford G.T.H.O Phase III for the March Collectors' Cars Auction

The famed G.T.H.O was developed for racing and is the ultimate Falcon GT. The prototype was built in 1969 and prepared for the long distance race at Bathurst. Allan Moffat went on to achieve back to back victories in phase II and III versions of the car in 1970 and 1971.

This example was built in May 1971, It is in concours original condition with a total recorded mileage of only c25,000km. With its interesting provenance, this fine car will headline the nationwide auction of Collectors' Cars on 25 March 2007.

Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story.... or in this case... a good sale $$$.

Good to see the correction has been made- nice work Seagull...!

Hi Seagull, How was Allan and do you know what does he get up to these days? He's always been a fairly private sort of guy away from the track, but it'd be interesting to hear what he's up to.
Ask him to join the forum!

i was only young but i was ****ed off. i walked in and bam there is these v8 supercar racers. big crowds in the center of everything. go up the stairs look around and just before i go. o wait there is someone at a table up here. in that dark corner hidden away where few people relise exists. oh wait its allan moffat.
that was the biggest disgrace i have ever seen.

Holmsy., I still dont understand why Ford dont use Moffat in the same way Holden used Brock. Maybe its coz he doesnt have AUssie accent, but then neither does Greg Norman, and holden used him.. maybe its coz he raced a holden for a little while.. but then borck raced fords. Maybe theres a taint from that NT cannonball event.. dunno.

Either way, I would love to see Moff out there promoting FPV, working with FPR (Team Moffat? Moffat Ford Performance Dealer Team?) even if its only a PR role. Mind you anyone who won 4 Australian Championships and 4 Bathurst, must know a thing aor to about cars, racing and tactics...

I would love to see Moff on telly selling more then cheap Asian tyres. But then Im his number 1 fan

He used to tune my old XRGT back in late 70's, I think he was in Chapel St and was one of the few back then with a dyno.
I had twin 4 barrel Holleys, and even Steve Wherret (Holley Performance) (RIP Steve) couldn't get em spot-on, but Bill did.

Pity the younger guy's missed out on seeing these cars race , I remember watching these cars run , they really were "ground shaking" stuff . You could "Feel" these Falcons , Bruce Cary's V8 Capri , V8 TC Cortina's & V8 Torana Sports Sedans (HDT Beast / Bob Jane LJ's etc) when they went past .

OH! What a Feeling . (Mmm sounds familiar)

i can remember driving moffats race car phase 3....well not really driving it but i was an apprentice at bayfords 2nd year i think it was the end of the day and they did`nt want it left out in the car park, i was told it was being prepared for sale, and just getting a tune (not a race tune) it definatley looked the part it was very battle scarred, this would have been in about 1977 i think, it was a mongrel..... heavy clutch very grumpy on start up very loud ( i s.h.i.t myself )i stalled it a couple of times from memory ,if you looked at it at the time without knowing its heritage you would`nt have offered much for it.

i seen phase 3 in genuine mint condition go for over $400,000 in an auction. so it doesn't really matter if alan moffat owned it or not because with that low milage i know most guys on this forum wont be able to afford one. we can only wish

Well done Seagull, seems that you have come up trumps again...... Sorry to digress off-track but the next biggest car to be auctioned in Australia will be the Invicta of the late Robert Shannon, this car could be tipping 7 figures at the Motor Show Auction in Melbourne.......

So as GT appreciate selling would be over the 500k mark and with those plates should add another 250k to the selling price in total
$750,000+

Are you Alan Moffat?

Anyway, the auction is on the 25th of March mate, so you'll find out after that.

You are right. This car will go for megabucks. But recently, I've been thinking about this. How much longer will these cars continue to increase in value? I mean, if you didn't grow up with them or see them win Bathurst, can you truly appreciate them?

As good as they were, these cars are pretty ordinary by modern standards. They're under-braked, under-tyred, handle like a fridge and feel like they're going to fall apart beyond certain speeds. I'm not only talking about Fords. This applies to Holdens, Chryslers and Chevies as well.

Modern cars are more powerful, more comfortable, safer, smoother, etc. This being the case, will future generations continue to pay stupid money for these oldies?

The conundrum is as you put it, that "most guys on this forum won't be able to afford one." So the people who appreciate these cars the most are the ones who can least afford them. Is this sustainable?

Food for thought.

not quite a perfect restoration though...... anyone wanna pick the faults?

Auction is on the 25th of March I think. Isn't it ?

I think it'll go for over $500,000. Who knows, if there are some really crazy bidders there they sky's the limit.

$800,000 ?
More ?
