I wonder if they will put the STi 6spd in it? It's a hell load stronger than the 5spd. Maybe SI-Drive as an option like they have in the Liberty GT too?

Well with those looks, it can only help the Australian performance industry car sell more cars.

Hmm.

The WRX’s and the GSR’s were always based on utilitarian sedans. Over the years the “base” cars have become bigger and heavier (and stiffer too). Mitsubishi is chucking the old sedan based idea out for it’s Lancers and Subaru are doing the same. I suppose the base Impreza will look similar to this, and the needs and size of the base model determined the looks of the “hero” model. There was probobaly a bit of turmoil in the design department when this was being developed – the’ve dropped the “airplane” face now.

This still seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity.

Remember the hype surrounding the Prodrive coupe (P2?) that used part of the production Be-1 (roof? doors?)? That didn’t turn out as good looking as I was hoping for. I guess if you really want a good looking STi or Evo then you’d have to go the route that Nissan have gone down for the new GTR – an independent bodyshell.

Anyone remember the expensive Hyena from the early 90’s? That took the Lancia Integrale driveline and suspension and put it in a custom body – pretty expensive.

p.s. I didn’t mind the looks of the old “hamster-face” model WRX/STi.

Here are some better pics now. While it's still not the best design it doesn't look as ugly as I first thought. Official launch is sometime in the next week.

Impreza interior above not WRX (no scoop on bonnet)

Not all that different, probably the goodies might be the significant change.

The bonnet scoop looks way too big for the bonnet.
Still not a fan of it .... headlights look similar to the current Honda Civic (although the Civic headlight look a lot better).

Hmmm Those pics have made me like it alot less, its got a bit of camry to it. That interior looks alright but even that hasn't changed much.

But it would blow off a Camry! :

Yeah but what's funny is that the people who buy these cars are meant to want performance but want a bling interior : . Bling adds weight!

When I bought mine I didn't care about the interior. It's out-dated and not the best materials used but it looks alright and is put together properly. It's uncomfortable to drive for long periods of time but fun at the same time.

I could live with that sedan, wouldn't be happy with that hatch.

Well I would like to know where Subaru are going with there designs, seems they are not one for the corporate look...LOL

Liberty, Impreza and Tribeca all look very different; not that its a bad thing.

What I can't get is why the Liberty keeps on getting better, but the WRX (which is what Subaru owes credit to) doesn't seem to have the same appeal.

All they have to do is put a bloody nice shell on it. The rest will sell itself!

I mean look at this. Sex on wheels!

Sedan looks not too bad, except for the grill, but they both look like grandma cars, sort of boring like the current Focus not like a WRX should look.

Apparently no power increase either :togo:

MMC will be laughing all the way to the bank:

At least there is still a WRX sedan. I thought they were all going to be hatchbacks. Glad that hasn't happened, but they're still ugly

My money will probably go towards a 03-05 STi/Liberty GT, F6/XR6T or a R34 GT-R. That's the shortlist anyway for my next car.

2 days to we get details. Well at least for the USDM model anyway.

Well I just traded a MY05 WRX on a 07 Falcon GT (still awaiting delivery). I was gonna wait to see what the next WRX had in store but SO GLAD I didn't bother. That thing is hideous........
