I reckon we will see alot more of this with BA / BF falcons over the next few years. No doubt hes bought a new logbook for it and had a mate at the local ford dealer stamp all the services up to 75,000.

:S
I have heard that the BA/BF's can be wound back.

need to be programmed with some sort of computer, but alot of places can do it and they dont ask any questions.

when i found my BA XR6 03 last year with only 68 000km i was wondering myself if it had been tampered with , but the log book was stamped by the selling dealer and a few local places around in esperance where the car was sold. even called the previous owner and the car turned out to be their secondary car, they lived in a caravan park and had a 4x4 to tow that around when they needed the XR never had a towball on it.

I buy 99% of my cars new, so problem not a huge one for me. But I would be very wary buying anything pre FG. I would wonder also if this can be done to FG's.

I have had several older cars, and two of them i have had to replace the dashboards because speedo and tacho have broken. Sometimes you cant always get a dash with the same readings, but you never know. Might not have been replaced to mislead anyone.

In saying, that if it was a dealer......ive seen things like this before.

Why would you list the k's on the new cluster?
You would say in the ad that the car has 2xx,xxx k's but you had to replace the cluster and it says 8x,xxx k's now.

As long as you've got a sense of humor, it's fine - Pulled an insutrument cluster out of an X-series once and "OH NO, NOT AGAIN!" was written on the back in texta..

had a plain old xf ute
put nice wheels on it, lowered it
got rid of the bench and column manual
put in a Tbar auto and buckets
took the standard cluster out and put in one of those nice blue led ones...
It had lower kilometers on it, didn't think twice about it cause I sold it for next to nothing 7 years later ...

I picked the cluster with the least scratches, not the least kilometers...

The pic's of the cars interior don't seem to coincide with 200,000km more than stated.
Probably a Typo.....
Even so, A falcon with 400,000 plus k's in such a short period will still have plenty more life left. (Well i hope so or all our cabs will stop running as i speak LOL)

A typo... when the guy is saying he has had the car for 3 years.... and cant remember which dealer he has always had the car serviced at...

Do people just read the first post, and maybe the last, and form an opinion without reading the meat of the thread where all the information has already been supplied?

FG's - Not quiet as easy as that. Having replaced my cluster (for an FPV one, not for KM reasons!) I can say definately you need to program the cluster to the car's computer for FGs. Without the programming the car will not start.

My dealer did it for me (not cheaply either), and set the odo to original. He also said the car's system records the number of cluster changes.

So can anyone else do this apart from dealers? Not sure. But at least it's harder than simply straight swap out.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but does anyone know what the law is regarding a private sale when it’s found that at an odometer has been wound back?
There seems to be plenty of information around with regards to dealers but not for private sales.

Would be a general civil action for damages though the common law courts like the local or district court depending on the amount of your claim. Likely to be costly to pursue - more than any 'damage' you might be able to prove, which is most cases would be limited to differences in market values of the low and actual kms.

Buying from a dealer is different as there are statutory (written law) provisions governing sales through dealers and specific tribunals rather than general courts to seek remedies. That's why you can find info on dealer breaches and not private ones.

I would imagine so. Don't think too many police or prosecutors are that hard up for something to do that they would actually try and prosecute it though. Might have happened - especially if the person involved was a repeat offender, but have never heard of it happening.

This one is extremely sus (eBay ad):

Link 1 shows a battered AU2 Wagon. The bloke reckons he is selling on behalf of a pregnant friend and the car has been a "family car" for the past 10 years. Now, a tiny bit of digging in his feedback shows that he purchased this car (an ex taxi) some 2 months earlier from NSW. That time it had 677,xxx kms now it amazingly has 131,xxx kms. No wonder the winning bidder didn't go through with it.

This bloke is a nut!

Link 1 (current listing)

Link 2 (old listing - the seller above won it and now trying to profit illegally)

Its definitely the same car.
The Disregarding things that can be changed from one identical car to another, such as the crappy headlights and hubcaps etc, have a look at the RHR door.
There is a large paint blemish under the door handle - present on both cars in each ebay ad.

Yeah. It even has the same black antenna whip in place of the usual AU silver antennas.

The funny thing is, you can clearly see the car he won if you look on his feedback and 'feedback left for others'.

You'd think if you were going to sell a car with false information, you'd at least use a different eBay ID.

Also the marks on the dash where he has ripped the old cluster out and got it stuck.

I looked at a car for a mate years ago, soon as we pulled up I told him it was a heap but he insisted we drive it and take a better look, man this thing was a dog, had more hits than elvis on the outside and a complete lack of respect inside and here is the lard owner sitting next to us telling us how she's a 1 owner genuine low km XF that 'just needs a good detail.' Anyway my mate's all fired given the genuine low 92,000 km on the clock but the guy hasnt got the papers or books for the car, mate this thing was rancid under the bonnet so I imply he was lying, he tells me its genuine and that he's insulted etc etc etc, anyway, b4 it all came to blows, I pointed out that the car must have recently been serviced, he says, "yep, 2000km ago, I do it every 5000km" - I then told him he should have taken the service sticker off of the inside of the windscreen, as its incorrect in stating his next service was due at 395,000km. U could hear the sound of 1 hand clapping at that moment.
Some people are just plain greedy as well as stupid.
