You choose the laws you want by who you vote into government, you vote for them to act on your behalf. if we had a referendum on every bloody law that came in nothing would get done, all we would do is go to damn voting boths all your life and cost millions to do about two tenths of FA. |

You people really miss the point with this voting thing. You are all such short term "gotta be now" impatient buggers.
If you want them to do what they are told it is simple. MAKE IT PERSONAL. Forget the crap about Labor/Liberal/OneNation/Green and attack the incumbent. They are all in it for personal glory and if they only last one term they get NOTHING. So if you have a Labor incumbent, vote Liberal. If you have a Liberal incumbent, vote Labor. This scares the hell out of them because even if they are a senior long time member of the party if they PERSONALLY are not in power they are NOTHING. Of course the problem with this is that there are too many "I will die before I vote against the TRUE LEADERS" on here are everywhere else and they all have a zillion reasons why despite laws destroying their lives and freedoms they will not change. Even if you vote against your beliefs you can vote them back in next time and then maybe they might listen. If you are whinging about being screwed by your state or federal Government and you voted FOR them then either do something about it or just shut the f%&^ up because YOU ARE THE PROBLEM........ |

I was once cruising with a mate in a 60k zone when he dumped the old auto into 1st gear then back into drive. The police confiscated it for 48 hours (we all had a good laugh). Upon getting it back he left the impound lot beeping his horn ($40 fine for excessive use) and that night he raced a commo and had it confiscated for 3 months. Magistrate tore him up over it. Quite funny though.
If your a P plater and don't want to be hasseled by the cops here are my tried and proven tips 1. By a shitbox that your Grandma might like i.e Sigma, Camry, Laser. 2. Don't put mags on it (it will keep the cost of insurance low) 3. Don't put a sports exhaust on it (chances are its a shitbox anyway so don't draw attention to the fact) 4. Don't put stickers all over it Its called camoflauge and by disguising yourself as a none car lover and making it appear like youd rather mow the lawns than drive your rust bucket, cops wont feel the need to make your early years so miserable. If your smart you'll use the time to insure your thats worth $2.50 so when you buy that nice V8 or turbo it wont cost you an arm and a leg to insure it.

You can have a nice ride and not get hasseled, its all about attitude mate, For example: Your mate decided to be a smart *** and hit the horn on the way out of the impound... That is pure arrogance, and if i were a copper, i'd have done the same.

Yes but lets compare the punishments. Driver drinks 10 beers, jumps in thier car and blows under the high legal limit. Result: a 3 month suspension and a $500 fine, but they still keep their vehicle and license until the court date. Hoon drops it back a gear to make some noise Result: Instant 48 hour confiscation (automatic $240 fine) court apperance with possible suspension and further fines. If you do the crime you do the time. I don't argue that for one second. My gripe with the anti hooning laws is that the punishment is somewhat excessive in comparison to other illegal acts and some more dangerous (such as speeding, unroadworthy vehicle, tailgating, lane weaving, using a mobile while driving). In my opinion the laws regarding hooning should be expanded to all serious driving offences, not just excessive noise.

I don't understand how people can have their cars impounded for dropping back a gear...Or somthing minimal like that. I ripped a skid on a mainroad and had a Police Officer on bike ride through it... I admitted to being a fool and he gave me a standard exessive noise/smoke Fine - Hoon Laws were in place at the time
As for the point of the thread Anyone has the potential to speed - break the law - drop skids....Its the idiots who get caught...Which is probly why you see more Young People getting booked as they don't pick a time and place |

Exactly the punnishment doesnt fit the crime...theres more important things they need to be doing here in SA!But traffic infringements are their main and first priority...Sure its a priority but so is the high crime rate we have. You see more ppl in the news getting off serious crimes than you do traffic infringements! |

Im revving my mighty 1.8Litres of fury cause she's abit cold, and i could lose my car for that : now i heard em all :
the laws for hooning should involve direct racing o time trialing and not because you enjoy abit of music or you rev your car :P stupidity at its worst and i bet 1/3rd of the offences aint even racing related |

A mate of mine driving his Ford Laser TX3, pretty stock besides an exhaust... Incident 1 - Driving down main steer on a tuesday night, sees a TOG car pull a u-turn and on go the lights, he pull over into a parking bay, keeping his car and headlights on. Officer walks up "Why wern't your headlights on?" without going into too much depth the officer was writing a ticket for no headlights although they were on luckily for this friend of mine his mum works at the local police station, he dropped her name, the officer backed down. Incident 2 - Same friend driving along gets pulled up, cop says you have a BOV (He didn't.) cop couldn't find it, calls in other units, they couldn't find it call in more units he ended up with 5-6 officers looking for something that wasn't there, and was help up for over an hour after doing close at work for doing nothing wrong. They were going to call in a unit that could measure how loud his exhaust was but once again, my friend dropped his mums name and they lleft him alone. I understand they have to do their job, but waiting over an hour with 6 officers around your car is just rubbish. |

I feel for you guys down there in the V I C. It will be hell if the dial-a-hoon kicks in.
We have stickers on our work vehicles with a 1800 number, whenever I overtake someone I get paranoid. Another young bloke at work got dobbed in for doing 120 on the freeway. Regional manager checked the GPS report and yeah turns out he was doing 126kmh. Almost lost his job. But seriously how is some member of the public going to prove you were hooning?

Usually im the first to jump to the defense of p-platers and there bad treatment because of a few idiotic drivers and over zealous police. However in this case it looks like he was defecting you for small more then likely because hes got his pms whether you were a p-plater or a full licensed driver by the looks of it in this case was just coincidence.

Studys have shown that it would not make the slightest of difference, and that the restractions are just a useless bandaid for the state govenements who don't actually want to do anything but make it look like they are trying. |
