And here we go, modified vs stock comparisons because a modern 1.6-litre hatchback can stomp underengineered 60s/70s/80s tech. Boo hoo.

I agree, we don't really need all this power in day-to-day driving.........but, the difference betweeen driving 40km to work everyday in a 100hp Fiesta compared to my 425hp BOSS is huge...not to mention the huge overtaking potential in driving such a powerful performance sedan.
Just cruising along in my V8 is always a pleasure, it's all about the noise that just puts me in a good/relaxed mood while getting from A to B. An econocar will get you there too but it will just be too clinical and boring. I have considered selling my car and getting a small car but everytime I go out in my beast, that idea flies out the window Also I'd like to stress that having the bonnet bulge and 255rwkw is not me "compensating" for something promise...

I drive an ef xr6 with 150 at the wheels when i had the work done it felt a shite load better then stock but now im just use to it so it feels slow again which it is haha when i turbo it, it will be faster again but will go bak to being slow once i get use to the power so to me id say when i can keep up with a ve v8 ss in a drag that will be enough power for me till that day i shall die trying to obtain more power.

I don't know about you guys, but I squeeze out every last RWKW of my F6 which is stock at the moment.
I get the odd quite moment on the hwy where i think, do i really need such a 'fast' car? I would be happy with 300rwkw and leave it at that, i just love the rush that the car gives me when it hits boost on a cold day! |

The BF I6 has more than enough. Any more than that on the streets is just for kicks.

I just cant help but think something might have instigated this thread, maybe a scary moment after the extra grunt was added?
I only ask this question as my BA XR8 Ute is in the panel shop at the moment due to a little mishap! |

My WRX is still stock and I find it good enough. Would be great to have a bit more but no point really.
Actually thinking of selling it and buying a 6 cyl Commodore or Falcon because it costs too much money for something I barely drive, plus the cops following or 'randomnly' pulling me over bugs the crap out of me. |

I'm at 300rwkw now and without doing suspension mods could only handle an extra 10-15.
There's no point in having 400-500 if you just spin it through all the gears. The great thing about the Turbos is that you can drive it normally and when you have some smartarse in a VL turbo you can just watch him in your back mirror crying to his mates taht it's only running half boost.

As much power as you can handle, a person can drive around safely and obey the law with a monster engine and be happy because its there 'pet'. I would love to have a 500+rwhp F6 on the streets, drive it to a track and let of some skids and drag's then drive it home, then to work the next day.
When (hopfully) i get my ED turboed i would love to see 300rwhp, 260 at least... |

I was happy with my T when I picked it up, then started modding it and cant get enough, currently 350 at the rears heading for 400 soon and its a lovely daily driver not bad on fuel 300k's around town (terrible when you thump it but dont care) it can get a bit iffy when in the wet but good tyres and sensible driving fix that, just having the power there is awesome when you want it
Thanks Shane |

My thoughts are not based on a "need" so much as a mixture of "want/safe"
Current model, locally built cars realistically top out at the 300-350 rwkw range. Hence the reason I stopped where I did. There will always be those that suggest any wheelspin indicates an excessive amount of horsepower/torque, and those that would suggest that wheelspin in any less than 4 gears is insufficient. I think it is a fine balance between wheelspin in the bottom couple of gears and acceleration in the 80-120 km/h range that is comparable to 1st/2nd in a stock example (without wringing its neck through the RPM range). This translates to a car that has enjoyable accelerative properties in every gear you use between 0 and 110 km/hr, without being an uncontrollable burnout machine off the line. Daniel |

300 rwkw is going to be more fun than 30 rwkw on the track or drag strip. try and overtake a semi on a 2 laned road at 100 kays and im sure the getz will feel dangerously under powered

No such thing as too much power..... I want more, probably dont need it but I want it.... I think about 500 rwkw would be nice. : Now where to find that extra 80 without going to Nos. :evil3: :evil3: Kev

Out of an I6 falcon, 172 kw is a good starting point in an auto and quite fun in a manual. I have probably 10 kw more in my AU XR and it's pretty good, though I've had 200kw in my forte and that sure was fun
172 to 200 is about all I need out of an I6 to enjoy it From a V8, 225 is the starting point, 300 KW probably enough for me. I'd rather a great handling car then one that goes really hard. The XA coupe I owned had probably 240 or more as I broke the seat when I put my foot to the floor one day and it would go from 50 to 80 MPH so fast that the needle in the instrument panel jumped.

I agree completely! For me I don't care if an F6 is faster or has more power, I don't care if the Holden has more power and is faster, i just love the power delivery and sound of my XR8. It is a wonderful highway cruiser and fantastic towing my caravan |

Having a lazy unresponsive engine makes baby jesus cry. Therefor you must mod it to at least get whats capable from it. I think 250kw/tonne is a nice zone. I like having it there
