Yep that's the one ... twin turbo cleveland stroker with RRS everything, enormous brakes, its absolutely awesome now, as I suspect they probably were back in their day too in race spec.

I'm being a bit of a pedant here, but they were not race cars, they were touring cars, just like they were hardtops, not coupes.

If their in competition and only used on the track then they are race cars, regardless of how much technology and engineering went into them. Formula vee are just a simple box tube chassis with a 50hp 1200cc vw engine and box and a beetle front end bolted on the front, but to the guys that drive em and work on them they are every bit a race car and their love of racing every bit as important to them as the guys that run formula 3 or f1 for that matter.
Same can be said for the tin top racer or any other code of motorsport.
Run what ya brung and have fun doin it i say.
Dont forget that the driver driving these coupes/hardtops were the some of the best drivers in the country and the world.

Formula Vees are race cars.

Look at race calenders from that period in time and you will see there was a clear distiction between touring cars, sports sedans, sports cars, and race cars.

Easy guys......we're just here to discuss coupes that have been in competition on the track. Whether they're called touring cars, race cars or whatever they are merely descriptions of the various categories of motor racing.

Back on topic or this thread goes the way of the dodo.

After a comment like that - Bearman, bring on the dodo. Was a good thread while the worthwhile forum members were participating.

There are a lot of Hardtop Touring Car Photos on www.oldracephotos.com

Just be sure to look under the heading Touring Cars not Racing Cars Better still, use the search function.

More Hardtop photos located at http://aussieroadracing.homestead.com
You will have to do some digging though as most of the cars are racing or sports cars, but they are to be found. ie

A few years back I got to crawl all over a few of these cars, hence I have a lot of suspension related photos of the French Leonard XC, Moffat XC and John Goss XB. I also have a few of a XC homolgation special.

The OP17.jpg picture is of the Goss sports sedan rather than his touring car, I guess this would classify as a racing car.

Good eyes!

It would be considered a sports sedan. Basically race car = openwheeler.

any vehicle that has raced is a race car or racing car

when trying to pigeon hole a particular car into a category, then an open wheeler is considered a racing car. a modified road car that raced in our country's premier category would be a touring car. others could be called sports sedans, sprintcars, funny cars or whatever. however since they were at one time racing, they are in the broader spectrum - race cars or racing cars

on topic, this thread has had some great race car pics - it is great seeing the old pics, including the pioneer car and the others that are not as commonly seen in history books

Speaking of which lets get it back on topic and none of this "politically correct" nonsense

Here's a few pictures of replicas i took from echuca this year.

This one is very unique! was (and still is) raced by Group C touring car legend and all around nicey Heather Ryan (msgtv8)

And these were a few from Bay to Birdwood this year
This Time heather was in the co-driver's seat and her other half (another racing legend ) , Pat was driving :

Hi Dave, great pics. Just one thing, the Morley Ford XC is a genuine ex race car, the real deal.

Love the replicas too, they really add to things I reckon.

Yeah I had a feeling the Morley car was a REAL RACE CAR, and in that spirit some pics of James' magnificent twin turbo evolution of the original JRS Cool Cat RACE CAR wouldn't go astray here either.

Those replica RACE CARS are fantastic to look at too. I'm so glad this thread is back on topic and leaving all the B.S. behind. More pics of COUPE RACE CARS please!
