Bugger. When I lived there, many moons ago, AIR used to be a brilliant spectator track.

I used to watch Jayne and Moffat race and it seems Jayne's still fighting dirty!

I hate seeing things like this happening. This type of stupidity will destroy the hard work so many have put into making our hobby safe and somewhat acceptible.

I can understand the need to protest, however this was so misguided and misplaced it's ridiculous. Calder released a statement (it was posted on here), that put the cancellation blame on the event organiser. The organiser has blamed Bob Jane. The truth is not known, and these idiots attack an indepently owned franchise store that had nothing to do with any of it.

If they want to protest, why dont they protest about some of the crap that our Government does? Our Government does more wrong against us all than one person cancelling a motorsport event.

Here on AFF, we have alot of members from all parts of the country. Maybe it is time we joined forces with all other car based forums and made a group that we could use to inform the media and the public of the truth behind these stupid acts. that they are in no way perpetrated by enthusiasts, but more so by the dregs of society.

We could also as a large scale minority group use it to lobby our Governments for the facilities that we so desperatley need. We could use it to have a common voice to distance ourselves as far away from the stereotypical hoon as possible.

While we all sit at home and post on forums and complain, it doesn't get OUR message to the public. The media will continue to put us in the same category as hoons and trouble makers as we have just seen. We need a common voice. I am not talking about protesting, I am talking about a well organised group that will stand up against media propaganda, that will speak the truth about these types of idiots who are not enthusiasts, but merely trouble makers, and who may take action against media that publishes false reports just for attention grabbing.

We have the numbers here, if we going forces with other forums, we will have even more. We could this. Taking positive action and uniting in a sensible and professional manner will be more effective means at getting the right publicity to ensure our hobby lives on.

Thoughts?

Ned

That must be Waikerie, 180 km's out of ADELAIDE, That's an airstrip for the gliding club. The traction at the start line is close to non existant and it's very bumpy. Closest tracks to Adelaide are Whyalla, Penola, Mildura Vic. All eigth mile, with dirt tracks leading to them, in the case of Penola and Midura, and all are very dusty.

Bob Jane screwed me over about 18 years ago. They said my car needed new tyres. So they put All Rounders on them :

I agree. Definatley feel for Victorians. Not only are they living in a state with tough laws, now a group, (a very large group) is making life hard for the genuine enthusiast who does the right thing and enjoys their car. These tards are just making life for themselves and eveyone else all that much harder.

Current email in circulation.

Many of you would have seen the Premier of Victoria’s facebook.

On there is a poll for the most popular subject.

The new Drag Racing venue has topped the poll.

Now to vote on the poll you must register. This is to ensure that those responding are Victorians.

So please everyone of you…go to the following link – register – then support the poll! (Errr – NOW!!!!)

Do it now guys as we have their attention and they are trying to see how many ‘Victorians’ want this…and get friends and relations who are supportive to do the same!

A Mate of mine spoke to Calder park and they said they were very happy to host the Easternats.( During last week)

I hear only 120 paid up entrants. This could be the reason the promoter may have cancelled....

Heathcote and Calder provide tracks to race at almost every week at the moment. Heathcote every second Sunday and Calder every second friday night.
They were just looking for an excuse to be moronic .
Most of them would not know a performance car if it bit them on the ****.
Their idea of performance is 20 inch wheels (Only on the front) and some fully sic sub woofas!!!!!!!

I do hope those scum bags feel little today. They have just destroyed the credibility of car enthusiasts. I think they should be punished severely and hit not only in the hip pocket, but also spend time inside. This sort of behavior really angers me. It is basically anarchy. I would be ashamed to be the parents of this cesspool of humanity.

Given that stated intent prior to the gathering last night was destruction rather than protest (as evidenced on a number of specialist forums that helped propogate the meeting), there was never going to be a good outcome.

Indeed, the police issued a warning to those who planned on attending prior to the commencement of it but it seems to have made little difference.

Protest has long been a legitimate form of public response to unpopular decision but there have always been a percentage of these that have been hijacked by a minority who simply wish to act in a socially irresponsible manner. Last night was not such a case as it never had a peaceful or legitimate intent to start with.

Everyone who attended has to accept some of the responsibility for all that subsequently took place. The instigators of the trouble need an audience and a large group to provide them with a degree of anonymity and even those who claim to have just been there to spectate added to that necessary fuel.

If there is any positive to be had from this it will be that the substantial amount of photography and video taken will help the police in identifying the perpetrators (it would be reasonable to assume some of the are already "known") and perhaps an example can be made of them as a disincentive for further events of this nature.

The negaive publicity generated by the mainstream media on this (some of which has taken more than the odd liberty with the facts) will only serve to further distance the automotive enthusiasts from the mainstream population - an alienation that has been growing over recent years. This, in turn, will provide legislators with more reason to feel justified in their further tightening of the (draconian) laws we already have.

We may well know that these people should not be called car enthusiasts but to the general public that is how they will be seen based on the media portrayal. When you add that to the growing community concerns about the environment, oil resources, the road toll and general anti social activity attributed to car enthusiasts; we will be lucky if we are not complete social pariahs within the next decade.

The time for some positive action by the members of this forum is now.

Russ

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story, brought to you by channel 7.

Er... glad to see some people on here in support of rioters.

The truth? So a bunch of ************** at 11.30 AT NIGHT rioting in the street should be reported as a protest?
I beg to differ.... It was a riot and had NOTHING TO DO WITH EASTERNATS.

Brain dead morons trashing things at NIGHT is NOT A PROTEST.

This is NOT how you get your point across.... at 11.30 at night because your TOO GUTLESS to be seen in broad daylight and TOO STUPID TO ORGANISE a proper protest.

This is an EXCUSE to riot and cause mayhem.

Well said Melz!

I am so sick of "hoons" getting blasted over the news.

Would be great if someone spoke to the people at Calder and was able to organise a time with them for a peaceful meeting of Car enthusiasts to show the general public the difference!

Let's start with the following:

1. We will be contacting those media outlets that we already have relationships with to explore whatever avenues may be open to us in terms of gaining positive media exposure or at least presenting an alternate side to the stories.

2. We will be contacting the other mainstream forums to seek their involvement and support.

If anyone has contact in the mainstream media OR at any of the other major forums then please PM me and we will add those to the list.

Cheers
Russ

Yep...the media will have a field day, with all car enthusiasts being hoons.
I reckon a lot of those people had nothing to do with the cancellation of Easternats. They may have been enjoying some 'food' at KFC next door and joined in the idiocy.

I hope the people responsible (as per pictures) are treated accordingly, as well as the tool with the baseball bat with a fag hanging out of his mouth...

Some people need to be brought back down to Earth.

Easternats aside, i find it absolutely disgusting that a private citizen can have his private property so wantonly destroyed by an unruly mob bent on destruction while our Police force send in a dog squad and air wing to "monitor" the situation, what happened to our riot squad....??? they should have been there cracking skulls, they had enough warning about the protest, peaceful or not....

It just makes me wonder how safe you really are in this country, if a mob decided to turn on you or your property, who can you really depend on......????

Its starting to sound like the event was going to be a flop with entrant numbers well down, maybe Calder park needed/wanted to increase their % of takings to cover opperational costs and an agreement couldnt be reached? I doubt we'll ever know all the story and to be honest its none of our business.

With regards to Bob Jane i still struggle to understand how people can make such strong demands on how someone like Bob spends their own personal money on their own personal property... regardless of how "inconvenient" some find it..

Willingly organising, participating in or condoning such irresponsible actions toward public and private property is totally unacceptable...

We can thank all the do-gooders who scrutinize Police behaviour for this. There hands are tied behind their backs and can longer use "force" to control situations like these.

This would be a good thing. If we did Australia wide, we could show unity, and that car enthusiasts do care about the their own communities aswell as other peoples communities.

Any car clubs on the Ford forums interested in doing something along those lines?

As has been mentioned by many of those that have posted in this thread. The actions taken by many of the main instigators in the events of last night, in no way whatsoever resemble what most of us would consider to be the mould of a car enthusiast.
Seriously what car enthusiast in their right mind would 'trash' a mechanics, armed with what appears to be a baseball bat(haven't seen one of those in many toolboxes before). Or band together as a group & destroy a car. These are the very things that form the very foundations of the car culture. Without cars / mechanics / workshops / wheel/tyreshops etc, there IS no carscene…

It is hoped that the media, and law enforcement treat and deal with these idiots as they truly are, anti-social extremists, NOT car enthusiasts.
The evidence is clear to see – there are NO excuses for their actions. lock them up & throw away the key.

They are NOT car enthusiasts.

Well said. The community and media have destroyed Victoria Police members ability to be forceful and deal with any situation heavy handed now. Police must now sit back and watch events such as this and then go in and pick up the pieces, perhaps charge a few, watch them get sweet fa from the courts.

Another factor would be they most likely only had one or perhaps two units available to send in. And it would have been suicide 4 police against 2000 rioters.
