Can't bond with the car? Fair enough- you're gonna spend enough time in it. Feminine P.O.V here- any 'window dressings' you had in your previous car IE preferred music, floor mats, air fresheners, photos of loved ones in the glove box.....basically anything that made you feel 'at home' in the old car- adopt it in the new car. Gonna be cheaper than buying a new car and will (hopefully)make you feel like your new car is your beast instead of your burden.

Hi GhiaGal, Think i am slowly coming to grips with the Caprice. Would need to transplant the dash and seats from the WK Statesman to really make it to my liking. But realise it is time to move forward. My wife told me to stop being a d@ckhead about it! She is normally right.
Talking about air fresheners, the wife put one in the car just yesterday, but i like a manly smell in the car, so it will accidentally blow out of the window on the way to work tomorrow!
Gave it a wash and a thorough clean of door jambs, boot and bonnet area this morning.
The car arrived with horrible swirl marks in the paint which put me off a bit. So i gave it a good machine polish and applied a sealant to the paint which is now nice and slick.
Have only driven the car to work and back over the last week. The big test will be on Wednesday when we travel down to the South East. I will know if the car is a keeper by the time we arrive.
If not, i will look at either a G6ET or a Diesel Turbo Territory. Drove the new Territory last week and found it to be quite delicious.

Rocket.

All in all though, I am happy to pay for the privilege of having new cars to drive around in.

Last year my old man decided he wanted to buy a WH series two Caprice, so he spent months and months searching, finally bought one which was a fully optioned 5.7, from an old bloke who plays lawn bowls with him. It has 43,000km on it, and for the money he paid, I would have driven away feeling like I robbed the bloke.

After he bought it, it sat in the garage, highly polished and covered. I asked him why he doesnt get out there and get out and drive it, and he said he doesn't like it. I was gutted for him, because I knew how much he wanted to buy one since they were new.

At the time, I guess he was feeling guilty about buying something he didn't really need. But the way I saw the situation was he had worked his whole life, and if he wanted to blow some cash on something he likes, Bugger the consequences and throw the dice.

I visited a week later, and the Caprice was in the driveway, a new exhaust fitted a mafless tune, and some unusual rubber residue along the rear mudflaps........... I didn't say anything, but it was pretty clear he was starting to enjoy it.

Sometimes you just have to give a car time to show its strengths.
me a hoon officer?? nah just bonding..

2003 BA Ford Falcon XT sedan with 3V V8, 5 speed manual , sports suspension, LSD etc. One paper it was a mini-XR8. As they didn't have any such cars for a test drive I ordered it with out getting to drive one. When I got it I was so disappointed and the next 4 years I loathed the car. If I was Elvis Presley I would have shot that car!

What could be so bad about a manual V8 base model? All the performance without the weight of luxury seats and crap, dream car IMO.

My current bucket of *****, for 4 of the 5 years I have owned it, I have been counting down till the day I get out of it.

Tryed so hard to make myself like it, and all it has done is turn me further off the damn thing. Never again. Should have just stuck with what I knew and actually wanted, something European (preferably Italian) or Japanese.

My 95 Clubsport. Ordered in october 94 & told there would be a 6 week wait for a manual. That was fair enough, so I copped that.....6 mths later it finally arrived! A week later the VS came out which was just hilarious!

Wouldn't pull that hat off your head, 2 gearboxes replaced, more squeaks & rattles then 'Toys R Us', massive disappointment!

Hung on to it, well left the bloody thing in the shed, eventually sold it privately for 22 grand with 13,000 k's on it in 2002. Great way to throw away 30 odd grand!

Now proudly have a shed full of Fords including a new Territory, BF GT & a 2008 Ford Ranger all of which I have not had one single problem with.

That's usually reserved for australian built cars that wear the Ford badge! And the very same reason I parted company with my AU2 with only 67,000kms on the clock. Every bump there was a squeak, rattle or crack from many places in the interior. I can't stand this, it gives my the feeling the car is not tight and made with poor quality plastics. My BF has had one too many for my liking lately as well. No more aussie made cars will be in my driveway after the BF goes.

You obviously haven't driven a Commodore then...if you think an AU Falcon is bad, hop inside a VY Commode..

Fair point though, I won't be buying another Australian built car either. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, as they say.

2009 WS Fiesta, parents pushed me into buying it as my first car, when you don't make the choice but part with the cash you resent it big time. Though I do miss its interior, much better than my LV Focus.

I think when I'm off my Ps I might go an F250/Silverado I reckon.

intresting about the AU post, both my AU and my old EL (long since sold) both drove really nicely, both were very smooth, no annoying noises rattles or anything like that.. both cars generated a rattle at one stage, the el was the water pump (let it go for too long, the bearing started rattleing and same day i replaced it, gone!)

and the AU, my cat had a rattle in it, due to the insides breaking apart and shaking around.. but no interior plastics tapping or shaking... ever..!

as far as being dissapointed with a car, the purchase wasn't mine, a friends...

he bought a 199 (4?) BMW 328i

This was great, it was a sedan, black, lowered, had 5 series alloys on it, leather, the works..decently quick car too!!

within 6 months, the dramas started...first the shifter would refuse to go into P without using serious force,

then the d/s wheel bearing starts whining (no prizes for guessing why, he was a P plater)

both rear tyres scrub out, due to the rediculous camber, again not cheap as there were very low profile 245's...

then one half peice, of the grill falls out, after closing the bonnet,

then while going down a bumpy dirt road, the rear view mirror falls off

so after fixing everything as it breaks, he decides this is it. calls it a day and throws the car up for sale.

while advertised, the drivers side door lock decides to not work!

(central locking remote was always dead) so now what that caused is, you would have to unlock the passenger door, reach over and unlock the drivers door, which would unlock all the doors, walk back over the drivers side, hop in and away you go!

finally someone comes to look at the car, so he gives it a quick wash, and parks it out the front of the house, opens the door, and the door trim decides to partially un clip itself from the door!

after playing with the clips he got it to sit back on properly (for now)

and luckily, the new buying was a complete dips**t... he viewed the car, handed over $6800 without even test driving it!

luckily never heard back from him. ! he was told of all the cars problems, but fingers were crossed hoping the car doesnt fall apart on his way home!

My biggest disappointment in a car would be the LR Focus I bought, what a bucket of a car that was. Glad to be rid of it.

The second biggest one would be my FG XR8 Ute although it wasnt due to the performance - I think it was more buyers remorse. I sold a very, very worked AU XR8 ute to get it and if i could buy it back I would tomorrow.

My biggest dissapointment was buying a brand new VN SS manual back in 1991 I kid you not it spent more time in the workshop than my garage - talk about a lemon this one was the whole friggen orchard
Unfortunately I sold my VK ex NSW HWP Commodore to buy this - went from a great Commo to an absolute Barry Crocker and that put me off Holdens from that day onwards

Well guys.... The verdict is in -

This morning i felt a bit sad walking past the WK Statesman to load the Caprice for the trip down to the south east -

The Caprice boot is massive. There is a lot more gear stored in front of this lot -

Left Adelaide at 7.30am right in the middle of bumper to bumper peak hour traffic. Finally hit the freeway and wouldn`t you know it.... First five klm at 40klm/h due to roadworks. After we cleared that it was an effortless cruise up through the tunnel. The trailer had a lot of weight in it, but it did not hold back the big 6.0 litre engine. Soon came across the first cop who was putting on his helmet as we went past. He came up behind us with the lights flashing on his motorbike. I cacked myself! This would be the third fine in a month. Luckily for me... he went straight past and pulled over a Magna in front of us. Phew!

Continued on with the cruise set at 110. Bugger, too slow for me. Started getting accustomed to the different settings on the trip computer. There are a few choices. Digital Speed Readout -

Trip Distance etc

Satellite Navigation -

Drove down through the Coorong. Very scenic area so stopped and took a couple of photos -

I have to say it was a very comfortable trip and this car has comfort plus and oodles of power. In fact it was the most relaxed trip i have ever done. We were at Millicent in what seemed record time -

Conclusion - The car is an absolute ripper! Love it!

Rocket.

Hi GhiaGal, Thanks for your kind words.

Are you thinking about buying a Mustang? If so, there is a big event coming up in Melbourne called the Mustang Roundup. There were about 400 Mustangs there last year. Think it is out in the Dandenong area.

My wife and i are driving over in the 69 Mustang Grande together with a dozen or so members of the Mustang Owners Club.

Here are some more photos of the Mustangs -

This is the 68 6 cylinder coupe which won an award at its very first outing a couple of years ago -

The 69 Grande

A 69 Mach1 my son is restoring -

We have just begun a restoration on this red Mach1

We have just completed a paint job on this 66 Shelby Fastback clone for the owner-

Rocket67, I would suggest getting the car tuned. I purchased a vy Ss in 2004 and to tell you the truth I wasn't happy with the performance side of things; had the car re-tuned (otr and exhuast) and it transformed the car. When it came to upgrade in 07, I purchased my ssv from qld, drove it straight to penrith and had the car retuned and an Otr installed. The tuner (OZTRACK) knows his stuff, and several mates have since had their ls1/2/98 tuned by him, most being mail orders. One of them a couple of weeks ago had his motor/auto tuned and Otr installed, for about $1100.

Cheers

John

Never marry a woman who wears lots of jewellery and rings on her fingers,
the scratches around the door handles on your car will make you cry,

2009 LV Focus.
Bought secondhand on price but easily the worst car I have ever owned.
No boot light, which would have been handy to see where all the water was leaking in from.No rear interior light so you needed a torch to find anything in the back seat at night. No easy to use bonnet release cable, just the nightmare of flipping the grille badge over and then using a key to open the bonnet.
The cramped driving position that made me feel like my legs were in a box.
The terrible South African build quality.Five months was enough and I'll never even get in one as a passenger again.

I have a slight case of remorse with the purchase of my recent 5 speed EF XR6.

That may have been due to the pressure plate dieing and other issues that need to be fixed that will probably be having me look at a $1500+ repair bill after only a month and a bit of owning it!

I think that when I am done with the car it might change me but atm I am missing my indestructable r31 skyline (except for the fuel economy)
