How am I being negative wanting more options in the line up?? I'm not asking Ford to replace the 6 cylinder with the 4? I'm asking for it to be available in the most popular retail model.

The last time we sold G6 in bulk was when it became available in a limited edition, otherwise it doesn't sell often. I think its a great car too.

Are these motors P Plate legal? If they are I can see them being very popular down the track with young blokes.

If they offered them as an XR, it would be very confusing seeing every second XR6 with an intercooler behind the front bar! I would definitely buy one over the petrol N/A XR6.

They should badge it as XR4, since the Focus with the same engine is going to be called ST like it is in Europe.

I reckon a 200KW+ version of it would make a good XR car, actually might live up to its moniker.

Or delete the I6 as an option on the "XR6" and make the 2L Ecoboost factory fitment, because I reckon this will put the I6 N/A to shame.

The XR6 hasn't been anything "special" since Tickford stopped doing their engines, its like a base model Falcon with different colour material in the middle of the seat and door cards that has been lowered slightly with a body kit and a slightly shorter diff ratio.

In Victoria currently they arent P plate legal as its petrol forced induction, the only ones you can get exemptions for are the small things like Smart cars, Suzuki Cappacino and some VWs I believe.

Interesting, I've always thought that non-performance FI motors were exempt. I wonder what NSW will classify them as, seeing as they are merely a fuel saving exercise.

I'd be more inclined to look at a 4cyl turbo before an N/A 6 so put me down as a yes

An XR6 is not a performance car anyway you want to slice it but with a turbo plant in it you do have a better scope for mods if you wanted to IMO

Yes, I would consider it, I'd take one for a test drive, and compare to the 6cyl. Weigh it all up and then decide which I'd prefer.

It has to be approved by VicRoads, so basically Ford will have to talk to VicRoads about it like VW did.

What is there to debate? Ford won't do it.

Ford has been behind Holden for many many years as to being able to specify the shape, class and power train of their vehicles. Ford give you what they want to give you, Holden say, sure if you want an SS you can have a crewman, you can have a wagon, you can have an alloy tray...what's that sir, you want a station wagon HSV? Sure here you go.

Ford failed miserably in flexibility many years ago, perhaps they were trying to preserve the Ghia or XR name plate to be something special and in doing so lost customers to the flexible company?

The fact that FPV own V8s outright in Falcon says a lot.

I still think it is a BIG mistake not having the Ecoboost in XR. I know people on here keep saying Ecoboost is about getting new customers & not replacing current ones. But the Falcon is in free fall (over many years now) & the aim of the game should be "converting I6 XR buyers to EB4 XR", because you keep losing more customers than you are keeping. You have to stabilise before you can improve.

I would consider EB4 as my next car in XR form, but not in XT or G6/E model as I just don’t like these models.

As much as i want to see this engine succeed both in sales and aftermarket i have said no.

Cant justify getting something that would not be much of a step up from my current I6. Especially if the injector size caps its potential for mods down the track.
Should Ford decide to crank the boost up a bit and make it around the 230-240 mark then it would be something special which im sure would attract alot of buyers.

I know they dont want to detract from XR6 sales, but offering something in a different flavour with no more nutrients then what your currently eating isnt exactly doing it for me.
In other words:

Why switch to coco pops when i can just add sugar to my weetbix?

Seeing that the platform is already there with the XT/G6 and G6E, I would like to see the EB4 become available on the XR version.

Personally a few yr's back I would have considered one and even now that my wife and I are looking to update, we have talked about it but unfortunately we want the space that the larger SUV's offer.

But economy is of the upmost importance to us and I see EB4 as a consideration.

i'll go against the grain and say i'd like to see 6cyl (petrol) deleted from all except XR6, once again creating a point of difference, and a stand alone model. the only irony would be that the ecolpi is actually slightly better performing and cheaper to run so the 'performance' model (if 6cyl petrol was xr6 only) wouldn't actually be the best performing.

maybe they need to boost the tune on the petrol 6cyl and have it xr6 only.

xt and g series can have Ecoboost and Ecolpi.

my opinion only. i doubt sales figures are related to what engines are available anyway. its the size of the car that isn't attractive.

Established beliefs were that EcoLPI would bring back fleet sales and that fleet buyers
and Novated lease buyers would just keep buying XR6 .. all of that is out the window.....


At just over 1,000 sales a month it's time to try something different...don't you?

Nothing radical but at least try some different engine and trim combos, like EB XR6
and what the heck, a V6 diesel G6 and G6E....

While the marketing of the Ecoboost is more related to efficiency, they hardly mention its a turbocharged engine, and inconsistent with the sporty image of the XR I think the time is past to worried by that: just offer the customer any option when order is made, it is not like there is any real cost.

what if it wasn't XR, what if it was SR, an XT based vehicle. I can't see us selling too many XT/G6 (non limited) in ecoboost to retail customers, which has always been my main concern regarding this engine.

I don't believe it is just a fleet/gov vehicle and I'll stick by it.

From what I've read/heard about that engine I would buy one. Here in Qld the rego would be cheaper and along with the fuel savings makes it an attractive buy. Test drive first of course.

instead of the 4T being an option from factory, they should make it standard and give the owner the option to go with the inline 6 instead.
