@Auslandau. Yeah great to meet you too and no worries on letting you drive. I was so tired it would have been hazardous and I figured you were the one with the write up to do. So you should spend most of the time in the hot seat. Btw pretty darn good driver he is too ..

Just watching NASCAR racing on the telly .. the ecoboost nascar is running first.

How's that for an ecoboost....well a nascar with ecooboost on the outside...

I know the Taurus in the US gets this engine spec

"3.5L Twin Turbo Charged Direct Injection EcoBoost V6"

Is Ford Australia going to get this? it's a shame that we're stuck with 2.0..

Because we have a kick *** 6 turbo already. Thats aussie made and good until atleast 2016 or so.

What we previously didnt have was a "greeny" engine to keep the hippies quiet. But what the ecoboost has actually achieved is keeping the Greens happy and producing a car that is still enjoyable to drive.

The ecoboost should reach out to more people than the falcon was previously exposed to, that is also very exciting.

Ford were very tight lipped about engine futures and gave s VERY FIRM "No Comment" ...read into that what you will..

I guess so.

But long term when they stop making the I6 we're gonna be stuck with these Greenie engines as you put it. At that time we're gonna want a powerful Green engine.

I mean even now, i'm paying 1.75 for premium. I pay $50 for half a tank at over 12.5L/100 in my FG I6. I wouldn't mind a powerful engine with low consumption ya know.

12.5L/100 is bloody good for the F6, look at the power you get. The EB V6 wont be doing thaaat much better. Certainly nothing like the EB4.

But its certainly not a bad replacement when the time comes, but for now we are rather lucky with our choice.

That is true.

I did read that the Taurus gets 500miles to the tank. Probably conservative driving though, still good. That's the EB6 TT.

I'm happy with my I6 4.0 though.

Oh, and i tow huge loads and carry well over 1 tonne, 157kW does it with ease i am not wanting for more, and NOT NEEDED, want kW buy a turbo or a V8, these are work vehicles not performance vehicles

My 2 cents real world opinion!
Then you need the 2L Ecoboost Direct LPi which hasn't been built yet. 8-10L/100km on LPG!!!!

Was reading on another website and someone claimed the Ecoboost was 4.0 L/100 km's more efficient than I6 engine on the urban cycle.

If this is correct this a major peice of the picture that's as yet almost undiscovered. I would have thought that would be hugely relevant for people who drive in the city a lot but still want large car comfort and space.

Does anyone have ready access to reliable info on the unban / extra urban ratings of consumption of the EB compared to I6 petrol and I6 Ecolpi ?

Yes and have you read some of the comments from the 4 vs 6 status update?

It is just so painful how stupid people can be, Ford has some massive reeducation ahead of them. Although it seems some people will never be swayed into opening their minds.

Hang on...mine's on 15.2, I must need lessons too

Seriously I think from memory these ADR tests include a lot of cold start short journey and traffic light simluations.

If the Falcon Ecoboost is anything like the Mondeo Ecoboost, then the average fuel figures should be easy to beat in the real world. In the Mondeo, I manage to get around 7 L/100km when driving sedately (the torque 'plateau' allows you to do so). The car just does not drink fuel! As with the I6, the Ecoboost shines on the open road (I have even achieved mid 4s, believe it or not).
I can't wait to see what owners are returning from their Falcons.

Both Auslandau and I both commented when we were in the G6E that the fuel gauge was pretty much still pointing at the F... after about 200k's

I think it will still hurt to fill it up from empty you will be doing it way less often.

You need to come on the next around the north island of N.Z. fuel economy run they have over here if you can get economy like that. I'd say you'd win the competition. Extra urban consumption Mondeo Ecoboost 6.3 L/100 km's
Ford Ecoboost 6.0 L/100 km's, looks like those low rolling resistance tyres on the Falc Ecoboost pay big divvy's on the open road.
