Well the way I read the article the contrary view is that she didn't stab in defence of the saucpan hit. She stabbed afterwards when they were only in a verbal confrontation, that's probably not proportional. Also if he'd made any decent contact with that pan there's no way she'd be walking around. Not condoning hitting anyone at all but there does seem to be some gaps in the story here.
End of the day she was found not guilty and that's the only thing that matters.

The families of people who kill their partners almost always don't know that their son/brother/whoever is violent. Oh? Assuming that you're a man.. if another man attacked you by hitting you over the head with a blunt object and then starting coming towards you again, what would be your next step? Ask them nicely to please not do that again? |

It's not a difficult concept. Don't violently assault your partner, whether they're male or female it doesn't matter. If you strike at someone, why on earth would you be surprised if they strike out in return? Quote:

By the sounds of it, you are a woman, and possibly someone who has experienced domestic violence. I'm not going to debate whether the crime was justified or the defence was proportional, but what I would like to suggest is, if the roles were reversed and the woman attacked the man with a saucepan and the man responded by stabbing the woman to death, I think it fair to say the legal system would have taken a different view to the self defence being proportional or justified. It's not just women who experience domestic violence.

You're clearly passionate about the subject and taking things out of context.
I doubt anyone here thinks violence towards partners is acceptable. Again the way I'm reading the comments most people are talking about balance and proportion, there is only one person who has said that more violence is a good response to violence, I'll leave it to you to guess who that is...

No I'm not wrong. She was charged with murder was she not?
My missus hit me over the head with a saucepan once...after I came home from the strippers rotten drunk and covered in baby oil. I think I went and had a lie down.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/law...c92ad2ac4388cc I have been quite clear in my comments that it doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman, that threatening the life of your partner is not on. |

Not sure where a proportional response comes into it, If she was claiming self defence then she had to prove that the conduct was a reasonable response. No one here knows how the defence was presented.

This thread has gone off topic.
I think sensible people agree this driver got her medicine - the problem is she doesn't get it. Keep to the left - problem solved. |

My worst case of cracking it with slow people in the fast lane was when I towed my boat (1600 odd kgs behind a bf) from the south coast back to sydney. On cruise sitting on 80 half way up Mt usley rd, trucks doing 40 in the left lane, I was overtaking where necessary to keep momentum. Then a guy towing a caravan was in the middle lane overtaking semis at 50. That's fine. But in the right lane was a guy towing a pop top camper behind an old land cruiser doing 52. It took him what seemed like an eternity to pass. He got past at the top of the hill. At the top. After I got past so did the now long line of traffic. It ruined my 2 and a half hour drive getting tailgated by a boat.

Her behaviour and attitude is probably typical of a lot of drivers today.
Proper driver training and regular 're-training' has gone down the toilet... or maybe never existed in the first place? Young people are taught to 'pass the test', not to actually drive. And once we have our licence, there is really no way of monitoring or retesting.

She killed someone and got off, she committed a driving offence and didn't get off.
I think she needs to understand when she's well off and just shut the **** up. |

That poses a business question, why would any lady buy a wedding dress designed by a lady who murdered her husband? Wouldn't that be a bad start to a marriage?

Leesa, find something else to do other than comment in this thread... You are way off topic and clearly have an axe to grind.

Me too. 100km/h cruise setting is more like 96km/h, so you're holding me up

Keeping left and overtaking Keeping left On single-lane roads, you must stay as close as practical to the left side of the road. On multi-lane roads, if the speed limit is 90km/h or more, or if the road has a ‘keep left unless overtaking’ sign, you must not drive in the right-hand lane unless you are: overtaking turning right making a U-turn avoiding an obstruction driving in congested traffic using a special purpose lane that you are allowed to be in. Drivers are allowed to overtake on the left on all multi-lane roads.
