Got to go the Clevo just based on the growl it makes. The new boss engines sound like a poofs fart (No offense intended).

I guess I'm a Ford fan and I love all 3 Ford V8 engines mentioned. They all have their pluses and minuses but I have to say that it does seem that most of the "anti other ford engines" comments in this thread are coming from Clevo fanboys here.

Cleveland all the way, the Boss thing is a totaly different debate but if we are going down that route as well it's still Cleveland all the way- Boss 351.

Windsor,Clevo or Boss, i dont have a biased opinion here.
I have modified and built all of these engines for my customers over the years.
At the end of the day they are all FORDS, LOVELY BLUE OVAL PRODUCTS.
I LOVE THEM ALL.
Point of interest, SEAN HYLAND (GUN ENGINE BUILDER IN THE U.S) refers to the 4.6 & 5.4 QUAD CAMMERS as WINDSORS.
His first personal engine produced 700 HP.
He now guarantees a reliable 1500 HP out of these engines and predicts a reliable 2000 HP output in the future.
He produces these power levels using the ORIGINAL (thats right) BLOCK,CRANKSHAFT and CYLINDER HEADS.
Obviously the cyl.heads are modified, and these engines are not your AVERAGE daily
drivers.
Early 4.6 IRON BLOCKS were also classed as WINDSORS as they were cast in the WINDSOR ENGINE PLANT also.
Early production blocks are used for reliable 900 + HP output.
Later production blocks are used for power outputs up to 600 HP.
These MODULAR ENGINES as they are called are known as WAP blocks.
BUILT and CAST in the WINDSOR ALUMINIUM PLANT.
You have all heard about the BOSS ENGINES (PRE MODULAR) WINDSOR BLOCK,CLEVO HEADS, have you heard of the CLEVOR.
Another derivative of the CLEVO/WINDSOR CROSSBREED.
At the end of the day, i think we can all agree on 1 thing.
We would all prefer any of these engines, whether CLEVO,WINDSOR or MODULAR,
over any of the oposition G.M. ""JUNK""
Hope none of my G.M. customers see this.
Regards DAVE.

[QUOTE=...but the CLEVO is no longer....does anyone know exactly whay they stopped production??? Maybe it was the work???[/QUOTE]
It was the cost of adapting the low volume Cleveland to emissions requirements. Windsor was easier and more cost-effective.

BTW do M-blocks qualify as Clevelands for the purpose of this vote?

Unfortunatly the 351w is probably the worst of the windsor motors, oversized big ends and mains would regularly fail under load and poor breathing cylinder heads made it a bit of a poor cousin to the 302 version.
The cleveland was bought out to solve the lack of durability and competitiveness of the windsors.

Alot of people will tell you they are stronger,in the bores, but ive heard it said this is a myth, that they are no better.
The one advantage in a tough street engine (not all out race)that I can see,is they can be made bigger, because of the 9.5 deck, I have seen a few nice ones,I would'nt knock back a nice 420 odd ci stroker, with a cleveland top of course..

the 351W block would make a good donar block for a Cleveland headed stroker, no doubt, as long as you use 2.1 big end journal size, and ensure the mains bearings are held properly (4 Bolt), imagine 420CI with 4V heads!

I voted Windsor because they are the only V8 you can get in a E-series. :

What about utilising a set of CHI heads on a windsor bottom end?

I'd like to see that in oz!

Cleveland all the way...although the BPT GT with supercharger is niiiicceee.

Still think an alloy Clevland with CHI 3'vs would kick the LS2's ***.

Ammm ??? Correct me if I'm wrong ... But didn't the 302 Boss come out before the Clevo??? If it did then the Clevo got the Boss style heads...
The Windsors 3" mains is only an issue in high rpm...
In any case the Dart blocked Windsor is my go with aftermarket heads...

sorry, the first clevelands were cast in 69, BOSS 302 was 1970. Wheezor 3" mains crippled them, the SVO/Dart block uses clevo specs.
By aftermarket i assume you mean CLEVELAND.....

Voted Windsor. There's more off-the-shelf aftermarket for it then any other engine in the world except the Gen1 Small-Block Chev.
