The current one is $33990 in manual on drive away campaign, and then you can get an auto for probably another $1000 cheaper than that again, rrp is nowhere near what they are selling for, they are around 8k under so if they reduce the rrp by 5 or 6 they will still price up the same.

Am still a hater.
Second to last Falcon looks much more balanced & easier on my eye. At least the new XR8 will go hard & drive well. The new auto in the turbo would be nice but with the V8 I'd go manual. Maybe pick one up secondhand but keeping my FGF6 eitherway. |

Of course the DH is. It's not even a recall as it's not even a safety concern.

Seems like the only difference would be the front bar. Surely there will be kits you can buy to make one look like this?

Front, rear, side skirts and spoiler (I presume your thinking of creating a "gt" like the picture).
Custom bars aren't cheap!

Nah, I won't be doing any of that, but I'm sure there would be some people that are interested.
If the XR is too high for my liking, I might have to look at lowering it. Guess we'll see when it launches!

If you lower it you'll just give them an excuse to knock back underbody warranty. Like dif bushes, cv's etc.

Only mod I'll be doing in the first 3 years is the K&N pod I've got sitting in the garage.
Ain't no way I'm letting them ping me for anything!

Agreed, and let me add as someone who has been able to look at one for a good 30 minutes you don't give a toss on the looks when someone turns the key of an FG-X XR8, the revs rise to a roar as it fires up and then settles down to it's idle. GT owners will understand. IMHO the best angle of the new XR8 will be from behind, you can close your eyes as well as it's won't matter because your hearing is all you need as the hairs on your back jump to attention. The actual car looks fantastic in the raw, don't trust any photo until you have seen it in the flesh. I think we almost flattened the battery constantly starting it over and over. God I wish they were making a G8E.

Another way to look at it is to multiply the cost of a new filter every service for the life of the car, which I intend to hang onto for a long time, and it makes financial sense. Another forum had a topic about K&N's for the V8, a guy had a GS and picked up 12rwkw, FWIW.

I have the conical airbox on my old XR8 and I have both the K&N and the standard type paper filter A1492 and I have been experimenting with the two. I personally can't feel any difference in power. The standard one is physically larger in the airbox, the airbox lid seems to seal better with it, and it is a little quieter in terms of intake noise. Plus it seems to keep the throttle body cleaner over 6 months. I'd be surprised if the K&N delivers more than a couple rwhp let alone double figures but maybe my butt dyno isn't accurate Or maybe the other mods on the car kind of mask it. But maybe the supercharged engines respond a lot better to this mod than the old clunker 5.4s! Last edited by Alan D Segal; 17-09-2014 at 09:26 AM. |

I've got a panel K&N in my Ghia, I can definitely feel the extra power and the fuel economy did see some improvement too. I think I've certainly gotten my money back and then some in the 45,000km I've driven it for.
I also put one in my wife's Territory, and the first thing I noticed was the acceleration from the lights. It used to feel like it didn't like accelerating due to the mass of the car, but it seems to be effortless after the panel went in. I have to say that I've had nothing but positive results from having them installed. Saved on replacement filters, better economy, smoother idling and power delivery, and a little more herbs under the right foot. Paired with an F6 airbox and snorkel, and a Territory intake pipe, I've had mechanics who drive V8 comment on how impressed they are with its' performance. Not sure if they are replaced every service with the V8, but a lot of cars I've owned have asked for this to be replaced every time. For example, the filter on the Ghia is $30, the K&N cost me $75 posted (plus cleaning and oil kit), and it has been through 4 services so far and worked a treat. In my opinion, it is certainly worth the spend. The V8 pod was $86 plus $14 postage, and I look forward to putting it in straight away.
