Good article from: http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...257D65002134BF

Quote:
Loaded with goodies from the Falcon GT developed by defunct Blue Oval hot shop Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV), the new model restores both V8 power and the XR8 badge to the Falcon line-up for the first time since June 2010 when the previous 290kW 5.4-litre normally aspirated V8 was dumped because it could not make mandatory Euro 4 emissions restrictions.

Many Ford fans thought they had seen the last of the XR8, especially when Ford announced it was planning to quit Australian manufacturing in 2016.

However, strong customer interest prompted Ford to give V8 power one last hurrah in a new XR8, this time using the locally developed supercharged version of Ford’s American-made Boss engine.

While the new XR8 might cost $5500 more than the previous generation, it boasts a wide array of modern technologies and features, making it closer to GT than XR8.

Apart from the blown 32-valve V8 that generates 335kW of power at 5750rpm and 570Nm of torque from 2200rpm, the XR8 gets GT RSPEC suspension that Ford describes as “the best of the best”.

Announcing the pricing, Ford vehicle line director David Wilkinson said the engineering team had worked hard to ensure the Falcon XR8 delivered the ride, handling and stopping power expected of a performance touring sedan.

“Compared with the last FG Falcon XR8, the 2014 Falcon XR8 has better turn-in, more rear grip, noticeably less bodyroll and increased sense of control from the driver’s seat,” he said.

“Customers will also appreciate the levels of refinement in the new XR8.”

Even compared with the GT suspension, RSPEC gets retuned dampers and springs, a thicker 19mm rear stabiliser bar (up 1mm), retuned front dampers, stiffer front upper spring mounts, stiffer front upper control arm bushing and revised suspension geometry to suit the XR8’s 275-section rear tyres.

The XR8 gets 19-inch wheels all-round, but they are eight inches wide at the front and nine inches at the back.

Front brakes are four-piston Brembos, while single-piston Brembos stop the rear wheels.

Like the GT Falcons in the FG line, the new XR8 gets a power bulge on the bonnet, as well as a spoiler on the new-look bootlid....CONT

Yeah I'd say those who missed out on a run out GT or a GTF would be crazy to pass these in. $60k for a factory supercharged v8 is unprecedented I think.

Should've just whacked a front lip on it and some stickers and badging and called it Falcon GT. Would've been a better send off than GT-F

Not sure I really agree with that, how do you figure a 335 in the FGX with just a lip is better than the 351 in the proper full GT kit of the FG? If they did that then effectively it would've ended up being an XR8 with a body kit which is not in my opinion a fitting send off.

I'm personally very happy with the send off the GT has received. This way they give a great send off to two of their valued badges. Both the GT and XR8 get a great finale this way.

There are a few things that perhaps could've been bought into the GTF, the black headlining, sync 2 and the DAB, but it's a bloody awesome car still

Great Value for money with the XR8, a full GT R-Spec in a XR8's trim and price bracket, well done Ford Australia.

$54k, for auto plus ORC with all the goodies they've jammed in there is a pretty hot deal. $10k premium over the almighty turbo.

Make sure you adding the $2600 luxury pack to the Turbo so you are comparing cars both with leather and satnav

I generally agree, but I almost pulled the trigger on a GT before deciding I didn't want to spend that much. Could quite easily have been happy in either, but I don't like OTT and prefer subtlety (a sledgehammer in a glove) so the XR is probably a better fit. That said, the GT would have been nice...

For that price you will want to get in quick and go on the waiting list. These will be gobbled up at that price.

You will never get that much performance (particurly that gem of an engine) for that price ever again.
BestBangForYourBucks ever, period.

That's why it is the first car I'll have ever bought new. Never saw the point before when I could buy something with < 30,000km for less than half the original price. But this one looks the goods.

And don't see the likelihood of the resale dropping in a helluva hurry either. It'll be interesting to see flow on resale effect short term on the FPV models. Badge aside helluva package. Mid to long term though the GT badge should hold its own better.

From the looking I've been doing BA GT's still command a premium over FG XR8's that have the same running gear. I don't think it will really affect GT prices much at all as they really are still quite different cars.

The lease company we use at work just released its price on FGX

XR6T Auto $41,081
G6ET Auto $42,318

From past experience we get them $1000 or $2000 cheaper then the lease list price so that could be a XR6T under $40,000

Will wait to see what they list XR8 at but from past experience they won't discount it to much for lease

290 vs 260 mate there is enough difference there...and its not just a tune.

I wish we would stop comparing the FGX XR8 to the GTF...the GT is done, it has its place in history and both owners should be happy with what they have.

Just got back from my local dealership.
They told me Ford are only building
around 46 XR8's a month.1200 all up.
They got 3 in there first allocation
with 1 already sold so 2 left till April.

Deposit is down for mine in there
second allocation, now need to decide
on colour (kinetic or white)

Going to be a long wait but that's
the best my finances would allow

Seems like all the dealers are getting limited stock. One dealer got 3 cars across 3 sites...

And now that the pricing is out, what is it going to be? XR8 or SSV?
