You're getting ripped off nicely, it's still $1.65 to $1.71 (depending where you go) for 98 here and we're usually 15cpl dearer than Melb.

Ah, the joys of living in the big city eh?

I pulled into a servo the other day and BP Ultimate was $1.92.
So what I did was just put in enough for the next few days, rather than fill the tank full.

Next day, at another BP, it was $1.54, so filled her up.

Waiting for the day 98 hits $2.00 in Melbourne.

There is a cycle, it’s just spread out over a few weeks now. Pretty much once it sits on 1.36 for a few days you can bet we’re at the low point and to fill up.

How the **** does that work???
The regional cycle, when it exists, tends to lag behind the city cycle. The city will go up earlier than the regional (hence you can get it cheaper in the regional than the city) but will also be more expensive than the city once the price comes down again.

The other tendency is for the price to remain more constant in the regional areas. And typically higher than the troughs in the city. Therefore, it looks cheaper int he country at times when the city spikes, but we typically end up paying more, on average, then the city.

Whether you have a price cycle in the country is normally dependent upon the level of competition. For example, Bairnsdale, which is further away form Melbourne than here, is typically cheaper than here or the valley stations, which are closer to the city. But they have an APCO fuel outlet which tends to drive the price base.

it takes a couple of months for barrels bought today to end up at the bowser. Any price within days is just gouging.

My data from 2016 onwards for Diesel.
Diesel has been pretty consistent lately.
2018 was pretty varied and expensive.

I never buy Shell (Coles) as they always have the most expensive fuel in town.
