Queensland health authorities have detected another case of community transmission linked to a Stafford man who was confirmed to have coronavirus on Thursday.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said a Strathpine man had tested positive and contact tracers were still determining his movements.

She said a list of high-risk places would soon be released.

The Strathpine man was a close contact of the landscape gardener from Stafford, whose case was linked to involving the highly infectious UK strain of the virus, known as B117.

Brisbane Lions players and officials are among more than 15,000 people in Victoria who have been ordered to get coronavirus tests after a second case of locally acquired coronavirus was discovered in Queensland.

Although Queensland government restrictions remained unchanged on Saturday night, the AFL was busy planning contingencies in the event the two current local COVID-19 cases will trigger lockdowns and border closures in the sunshine state.

Brisbane man who tested positive to coronavirus partied with friends while waiting for his result

A Strathpine man who tested positive to coronavirus held a party for 25 people at his home after being instructed to isolate while he waited for his test results.

This time, two men in their 20s tested positive to the UK variant.

The men — from Stafford and Strathpine — are the latest cases in a cluster that also includes a doctor from the Princess Alexandra Hospital and two returned travellers, who tested positive earlier this month.

It is not clear if the Strathpine man — who held the party — will be fined for ignoring a directive to isolate.

The men tested positive after visiting dozens of locations, including supermarkets, bottle shops, Bunnings stores and shopping centers.

2 new cases and 0 deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.048% and active cases 74.

The UK had a lower 3,865 cases yesterday and 58 deaths.

Just over 79k new cases in the USA yesterday and 1,371 deaths sees CMR at 1.819%. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points: (weekend reporting)
Global cases pass 127M, the last 1M in 2 days;
Europe passes 900k deaths;

Ethiopia (2,173); and
Peru (11,919)

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

The Netherlands, Namibia and Kazakhstan move above the 90th percentile for their 10 day average while Slovakia and Armenia drop below.

When a Strathpine man in his 20s tested positive for COVID-19, authorities reported that he threw a party for 25 people while awaiting his result.

But less than 24 hours later, it was found that was not the case and, in fact, he was at home with his four roommates and one other person.

The man in question, who is currently in a Brisbane hospital, has asked for privacy, saying the situation has "caused him a great deal of stress".

So how did authorities get it so wrong?

I know I keep banging on about the 90th percentiles but it really is a good indicator of which countries are getting a handle on their case numbers and which aren't.

As a guide, our 90th percentile is 276 but our 10 day average is 9 and peak is 15 which is a good example of being well on top of case numbers.

Here are some examples from the other end of the spectrum. Note that a 'peak' within the last 10 days above the 90th percentile is not as bad as a 10 day average above! Peak numbers in red are also a new daily high.

Three-day lockdown for Greater Brisbane as COVID cases climb

Greater Brisbane will be locked down for three days from 5pm today after 10 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the state overnight. The state’s top doctor says there’s now ‘significant’ community transmission.

Four of the new cases were locally acquired and are part of the new cluster of the highly-contagious UK-strain that emerged late last week.

One of the new cases had travelled to Gladstone from March 25 to 28.

Six of today’s 10 cases were detected in hotel quarantine, prompting the Premier to cut international arrivals.

One of the local cases is believed to be a nurse from the PA Hospital who had worked in the COVID ward. She has been on leave and had not received a COVID-19 vaccination.

The lockdown will include the council areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Logan, Redlands and Ipswich.
