We may be raising the bat on 1m vacs this week.

If at the end of April we are not tracking up that will be a hard one to spin now with local production. Supply shouldn't be an issue like it has been before.

My sis and bro in law, in the states, will be taking the pfizer tomorrow. Its not their turn yet, but they can skip the queue if they drive 2.5hrs to a site that will "take anyone". Apparently there are lots of pfizer vaccines allocated but unused in "Trump territories"

Also heard Florida passed legislation to ban vaccine passports. Interesting.

I recall I was reading over there that they just want people to turn up so they don't go to waste. I'm not sure they even have a phased approach like we do.

Yes. Some of their friends living in certain states have a hotline that they can call towards the end of each day. If there are any due to expire that day, anyone can go get one before it is thrown out. But apparently the average wait for these "hotlines" is like 2 hours, so most people don't bother.

I didn't think they had a phased approach either, but it looks like they do. Maybe its different in each state.

Yes it's important to understand that while this last year we are only just understanding what power our states have, the US is next level on that. Both federations but a lot more of it over there.

Federal Government set to create mass vaccination centres across NSW

https://www.9news.com.au/national/co...-across_040421

Quote:
Pressure is mounting on the Federal Government to drastically ramp up the rate of the coronavirus vaccine rollout.

The Sydney Showground is set to be turned into a mass vaccination centre, one of 36 new hubs to be created across NSW.

"I had a very constructive conversation with my NSW counterpart earlier today - we welcome all of the states and territories setting up large vaccination centres. That has always been part of the plan," Health Minister Greg Hunt said.

In the US, mass vaccination centres have seen inoculation rates average around three million a day. Yesterday, a record with four million.

"The total number of vaccines administered by NSW Health is now 126,494," NSW Health's Dr Christine Selvey said.

States across Australia are itching to increase their rates but it all depends on the supply of the locally-produced AstraZeneca vaccine.

"Within that supply, we are able to make sure the states and territories have, over 30 weeks, a consistent large volume (of vaccines)," Mr Hunt said.

The rollout of phase 1a for aged care residents is well behind with 111,000 vaccinated so far and another 80,000 to go.

The Federal Government is scrambling asking for more providers to deliver vaccines.

"Only 14 per cent of aged care facilities and the residents within them have received the full vaccination," Shadow Health Minister Mark Butler said.

"Only 14 per cent of a sector that was supposed to be finished by last week."
Australia has now delivered nearly 850,000 vaccines. Mr Hunt said everyone should have had a first dose by October, but it means some won't receive their second dose until January next year.

Currently 1500 GP clinics are playing their part in the vaccine rollout, but that number is expected to double by the end of next week.

"We welcome that because we have GPs and then from the state allocation we also have that large vaccination clinic option," Mr Hunt said.

There are reports that PNG have accepted 200k doses of Sinopharm from China. Seriously WTF is going on when the EU is still blocking our doses but also why can't we still send more from our local supply .

The USA still leads the way with 23.79% of all cases and 19.85% of all deaths despite only having 4.25% of the global population.

Brazil is just ahead of India with 9.84% of cases but 11.57% of deaths and 2.73% of the global population.

India has 9.54% of cases and (a probably understated) 5.76% of deaths and 17.74% of the world population.

France and Russia take up the next two biggest totals but they are well behind the other three. France has 3.66% of cases; 3.37% of deaths but only 0.8% of the population while Russia (also known to be understated) has 3.47% of cases; 3.5% of deaths and 1.87% of the world population.

Yes they are, sadly.

During the early stages of the pandemic we were about on par with UnZud at around 1% CMR but the Victorian 2nd wave killed that and we ended up with one of the worst case mortality rates of any developed country.

We've had 29,344 cases for the 909 deaths and a fair whack of those (~800) were in the aged care sector where we frankly did too little, too late.

Conversely, our Southern cousins have had 2,507 cases for 26 deaths.

You can't even say it's related to the test percentages. We've got one of the highest test percentages in the world having tested the equivalent of 62% of the population compared to the ~40% of New Zealand.

There are countries with worse CMR's than ours like Afghanistan, Bosnia, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Ecuador, Egypt, Guatemala, Iran, Liberia etc. but I'm not sure that we can be too proud of that.

Even countries that haven't handled it well like the USA (1.8%), Brazil (2.5%), the UK (2.9%) and Italy (3.0%) have all done at least a bit better.

Do what they do in elections. Hire every school hall and have them set up for issuing the vaccine.

Make all data access and entry computerised, 2 to prep, 2 to triage before and monitor afterwards, 4-5 to administer. All should be first aid trained, perhaps use active nurses looking for some overtime or just retired nurses?

Every 2 hours rotate jobs so that they don't get bored or suffer RSI.

Anyone that is known to have an adverse reaction to getting shots need to go to a hospital or medical centre directly for their shots.

That setup can get through a thousand a day if not more per facility.

1a only first weekend, 1a+b second weekend etc.

And none of this starting at 9 and finishing at 4 rubbish. 7am till 9pm (2 x 7hr shifts) so there are no excuses.

How are nursing homes and retirement villages done I wonder? Can it be more efficient? - Probably.

If they want everyone done by October they will need to adopt something similar.

See what happens I guess.

would be prepared to travel to NZ, I suspect it will be a bit like covid roulette with on and off boarder closure. Cheers.

Queensland Health COVID vaccine hubs shutting on weekends

Quote:
The State Government’s COVID vaccine rollout grinds to halt each weekend, with all clinics closing on Sundays and just one staying open on a Saturday.

No jabs were administered at the 60 vaccine hubs controlled by Queensland Health on Sunday and just 34 were given on Saturday – compared to 690 over the weekend in Victoria and 396 in Western Australia.

The halting pace of the rollout comes despite Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk moving to “reassure Queenslanders” it was moving forward after unvaccinated frontline workers sparked a Brisbane-wide lockdown.
