I thought that V8 sounded nice, until I heard a GT at full song one day and it changed my perception.

The induced slur from our grandpa spec driving in the ZF does not represent it's capabilities
I disagree on the paddles.....they're too much looked at as a performance thing, to me it's convenience. I manual shift all the time with my ZF (as a manual driver trapped in a auto world), it'd be a helluva lot easier to do so with le paddles of power rather than remove le hand from le wheel. Modern auto's being so much fun to shift are a natural for it. Never thought I'd bother but the Miami is a treat to listen to and deserves a clutch really.

I’ve driven a few cars while in the US and Europe that were equipped with paddle shifts and the first thing you need to realise is, there are paddle shifts and there are paddle shifts.
It’s the same old story, you get what you pay for. I found the GM product to be slow to change when using paddles. In saying that, most well set up cars will be quicker if you leave them to do the job for you. Where the paddles really do come into their own is being able to hold gears while cruising. You can hold a gear and maximise the engine and exhaust sound as you cruise through town, you also always have the power band right in the sweet spot for those moments when you give it a little extra stick with no kickdown required and in some of the Euro cars where the transmission rev matches on downshift, doing it manually with the paddles will increase the glorious sound of some engines. I’d take a car with paddle shifts any day, you can always choose not to use them but when you want a little extra fun and driving input, they are there. |

I think there is a thread somewhere by 'Datamine' where he converted a Bf FPV to flappy paddles.

Holden do not have any possible way to match the XR8 unless they hurt the GTS.
They'd almost have to start offering walkinshaw SC packs as standard to even hope to meet the XR8 in battle.

Does the XR8 have a Bi-Modal exhaust like the FPV V8s?

The commodore SSV sedan / sportswagon will probably still outsell it 6 to 1. XR8 will not be a volume seller , far from it, its numbers will be limited - it wont take sales away from anything. Magazines like Wheels will still likely compare the XR8 to the GTS as they will want to compare the "current flagships" for performance. So it will probably be the same old story. The Ford will be the best BYFB bargain - the GTS will spank it every where else...... been done before - the love affair with the GTS will continue. In fact - they'll probably bag out the new falc interior for being almost identical to the outgoing FG2. |

They're entitled to their opinion. If you disagree fair enough but lets not derail the thread yet again please.

Was the Overboost feature on the GTF something that all 335 engines had, and Ford only decided to let the world know for the GTF? or was/is that specific to the 351 motor/tune?
I guess the question i'm asking is, if the new XR8 gets the same donk, will it get the overboost feature? If not, is that restricted by engine components or just the tune? I'd also be interested to know about the Bimodal exhaust too... Cheers. |

For example, when one of the mags did the GTS vs GTF dyno comparison, they had to run the GTF 6 times to the GTS's 3 times, because it just wasn't consistently hitting its numbers. But for a drag race to the death, you'll be sweet. I'm hearing that this will have the bi-modal, and if so, I'll be disconnecting mine if I think it needs a ballsier sound.

And that's a god damn blessing, I've yet to drive any dsg box that can match the smoothness of a good conventional auto in stop/start traffic, which the majority of this countries population has to sadly endure.

I think you'll find its an underboost feature, not an overboost
It makes a minimum 335kw, but in ideal situations its making closer to 400kw. If its 5 degrees then it will make 400kw all day no problems, however in 35degree+ days it will detune itself

I'd love to see a similar video as to how the XR8 is built, including the engine build. I would watch that so much that the TV would have a Ford logo burned in, the disc would have holes in it from copping so much laser, and the power company would disconnect us due to usage and unpaid bills in the tens of thousands. Oh, and I'd probably lose my job as I forgot to go in for yet another week.

Back to paddles.
On the track with an XR6T or XR8, paddles will be by far more "user friendly" & slightly faster. For general use with such a good box ( ZF ) it is **** factor. I'd buy the XR8 in manual & the XR6T in auto if the car looked easier on MY eye |

And regarding the R Spec suspension tune, I've read a few comments saying it's going to give the XR8 the handling edge. I don't think these people appreciate how competent the Redlines are. Consider that in Motor Trend's testing, the SS Redline pulled the same figure eight track time as the all-new 2015 Mustang GT. Let that sink in for a minute. For being a rocket I think the new XR8 is the bargain of the century, but I don't expect it to win any reviews I'm afraid. |

Would anyone know if the "8" in XR8 boot lid badge still be red on a Emperor coloured car or black like was for earlier XR8's?
