I said it when it was revealed and I'll say it again, FG X makes FG(I and II) look very old hat. Just a pity Ford had no $$ to do some upgrades to the interior.

Trust me, you aren't the only person to say that it makes the current Falcon look dated, because it does!

Just to comment on this point. Prior to seeing it in the flesh I thought FGX's front end was a real backward step, I really did not like it. BUT, having seen it and spent a day around it, it kinda "works". I wouldn't buy a gold one even though it's the hero colour they are pushing, but in blue or black I would be happy to have one.

I'm wondering why Ford would make upgrades to the interior, to the same extent as Holden did with their VF. The big difference is Holden just had to modernise from the terrible VE interior design, but the 6 year old basic design of the FG interior is very functional and still appealing, and would have been hardly worthwhile for major changes to be done just for a couple of years production. Especially considering the numbers that will be built.

Does anyone know if the EcoLpi models of the FG X have had a re design so they have the same boot space as the petrol engines?

Secondly how many here criticised Holden for keeping the VE for so long? In any case Ford didn't have the cash, it is what it is.

Imagine what the interior would've been like if FoA had more money to play with. Really want to see the sketches of the FGX FPV range that never got the green light and what the interior would've been like had it been done properly - my guess is they have sketches for this also
I could see I few muppets trying to make a gt out of an xr8 if those images were released Last edited by fgpsi; 19-10-2014 at 11:25 PM. |

The new Falcon has the "worldwide" Ford look about it. Perhaps the new model looks better in the flesh. It would need to |

The BF would be the last Aussie inspired in my opinion and I like the subtle power lines in the Boss version but on a whole the squared off look was dated for that time. Still BA-BF styling had it all over the AU which I found hard to love in any of its Mark releases. The FGX will be in my stable if I can get a good trade in on my wife's SSV VE Commy. She's a Holden fan but after driving my G6Et around she didn't want to go back to the SSV. A RSpec barked past the other day and I told her it's got the same V8 in the new XR8 and she was sold. |

I owned a XP with legal 302w for 13yrs. My point was that this new Falcon is/has taken us away from what I feel was a truely Australian designed/engineered looking vehicle into NOW just fitting into the worldwide Ford look. Love the B series. Even the Au. My sweet spot is the FG. Fg x ...X just marks the spot where FOMOCO ****** us... Generecally phucking us thatis |

If you look at the local Falcon model evolutions, traditionally the first one of a new body series tows the corporate appearance line, but as the local facelifts happen, they move further away from it.
XD was very similar to the Euro design, but XF facelift was all Aussie (and arguably one of the most pleasant looking fronts of any Aussie car). EA was probably one that was the least global - except for the Sierra/Sapphire style nose, and the EF/EL moved it to another level that was away from what global Ford were doing. AU was heavily inspired by the Taurus, but the BA was a "Bloody Amazing" refresh that didn't look like anything else in the global Ford garage, and has won a legion of fans for it's well balanced looks. The FG/FG-X seems to be reversing this - the FG itself as a whole car didn't have any clear "global" inspiration, except for the lower front grille design in the bumper (so just 1 panel) - which followed the low Aston style from '08-11, and then the 3-bar on FG2, as they slowly lifted the grille higher & higher across the model range. But the FG-X, rather than being a facelift that moves away, is really towing the global design line - and it has to, so it can fade out gracefully and leave us with uninspiring imported front-drive sedans to replace it, and Joe Public won't notice the change as much..... |

Does anyone know if the radio on the higher-spec models will be DAB compatible?

I didn't pay any attention to that but a friend did say he loved that fact they had digital radio. So I assume yes.

Looking at the some pics i think the money shot for the FGX XR8 is the side on front that shows that lovely full length power bulge.........i suspect a pic of the XR8 parked nose to nose with one of the previous model FG V8s would look rather awkward for the latter Cheers Mick |

The bulge on the new car doesn't quite stand out as much as the old one from side profile.

Yeah not so much in mine. Ever since the BA that bulge has been the sexy indicator of the big v8 and I love it!

New FGX full length centre bulge is great and heaps better than callaway but has been done by a few auto makers over the years. To me ford aus nailed it with size, width, placement with the b/fg bulges. I love looking out my windscreen and seeing that monster rising out of the bonnet.
