Yes, I think NSW is showing good leadership. Good mix of urgency around the vaccine rollout and keeping things rolling along BAU.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT May 18th, 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

5 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.035%.

2 cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.980% and active cases 19.

The UK had a higher 2,412 cases yesterday and 7 deaths. They have had another adjustment of -2,853 cases spread across several weeks.

Just over 25k new cases in the USA yesterday and 432 deaths sees CMR at 1.780%. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
South America passes 27M cases;

Bahrain (1,968); and
Argentina (35,443)

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for their 10 day average while Sweden, Canada and Namibia drop below.

I was just in a room of 6 females, 1 male and me, ~25 years younger than me. Whilst we were waiting for the Teams meeting to dial in I mentioned I was off for my AZ this afternoon.

None of them were planning to go get it any time soon. They didn't see the need. I was like well the virus will be coming at some point. They were like really? We've defeated it in Australia. We'll worry nearer the point or if there's an outbreak.

Here it is, but no sample size or population mentioned. I also read somewhere that Australia, only 2nd to the US, is most likely to believe in conspiracies.

Although I think in this case its complacency being the main driver.

I was looking at the graph I put up the other day for the cases by continent which was very 'spiky' thanks to the drops in weekend data so I've put the data in a pivot table and it can be shown weekly.

I love how these clowns push the conspiracy angle, like everyone who doesn't want to get it believes it's a conspiracy to put chips inside us. It's the biggest load of garbage. No one believes that except a few dullards that probably also believe the earth is flat.

What people do think, is one of 3 things. That these vaccines are long term unproven, can cause side effects resulting in blood clots and death (in small numbers), and also the complacency part is definitely a big factor also. Being lucky enough to pretty much have eliminated covid in the community, and with borders closed, means it's basically no risk. This might change when the borders are opened up and covid eventually returns.

People aren't refusing it because they believe they are getting computer chips injected into them. Mickey Molloy was pushing that crap on triple m yesterday

LOL I don't listen to MMM but surely the code of conduct would have prevented something like that going to air? Although Mick is a bit of a joker, hard to know when he is being serious or not.

Authorities have a lot of work to do to mitigate the causes of vaccine hesitancy, regardless of what category they fall in, the end result is still the same.

Whilst the 5G / tracking stuff is WAY out there, there are some other theories that blur into the long term health concerns line. Note there are people out there that still think this whole covid thing is a big lie or hoax.

I really hope there is a pretty nurse with a low cut attire administering the jab as ive seen the footage on the news and that needle goes in like a missile...Im not looking forward to it but will do when required.

Even a Chumpa Chump would be good.

Funnily enough Ive got no issue with dental needles, I think the last time I got one into the body was in high school.

Worth noting that the survey was run by Resolver Group owned by Jim Reed. There has been some criticisms of the governments use of this group to run surveys recently. If one was a cynic, you could say this gives them a bit of an excuse for the slow roll out. People aren't coming forward, not my fault...

The top 3 reasons given were:
I am nervous about side-effects for my age group - 50%
I do not know enough about the vaccines yet - 38%
I want to wait until more people have been vaccinated - 32%

One can assume you can select more than one reason.

It would have been good if the survey dug a bit deeper. Why are people nervous about side effects? Why do people want to wait until others have had it? Is it because of what they hear in the media or internet? etc.

I’m waiting a minimal period until the people I care for have received theirs (next Monday) and all likely short term effects have either appeared - or not. Then I get the flu shot, wait two more weeks, then Covid vaccine of whatever flavour they have on the shelf.

I retain zero confidence that if a medium to long term issue arises with people who’ve received a certain flavour of vaccine, that there will be any meaningful response approaching the speed of this initial one.

I think you could attribute the fact that from the start we have not shown any urgency to get people vaccinated because we had a low risk profile to begin with to the high hesitancy rate before you even get to the other issues.

It has not been helped by the media that have done a huge hit job on AZ as far as I'm concerned and then backed up by the government changing the strategy.

I'm not sure how it works logistically by offering a choice but that could be an option. Certainly they could offer AZ to anyone that wants it.

As for offering incentives, **** me dead

Still it may be cheaper in the long run.
