91 $1.12 in Euroa yesterday. Diesel's been hovering around $1.30 mark.

Still around $1.70/L for 91 here in Boganistan.

Its hovering around $1.72/L for 91 Octane here (Brisvegas southside). The variation is insane. Not to mention, at times, there is 40c/L difference between servo's in the same area. Thankfully Diesel pretty well stays the same so wifeys Car and the daily arent too bad...

Boganistan diesel is 11 cents more expensive than Melbourne prices for some reason.

Bump to thread. Any of you following what is going on in the UK - petrol/diesel shortages? Apparently not enough lorry (I'll use the vernacular there) drivers, so fuel is not being delivered to the stations.

Seen it, yes. Looks like its time to pay them a bit more. A bit like here with fruit picking, no local can afford to take the money, cause you can't live decently on it.

They mention a shortage of 100,000 drivers, army being put on notice to deliver, and 50-90% dry at metro fuel stations. I can imagine it going 'I am Legend' if that were for food as well.

I'm not old enough, but it seems the rising inflationary pressures (thanks: central banks spamming fiat currency) combined with supply chain shocks as we are seeing, evoke the early 1970s. Anyone here go through that as a young motorist/shopper? What was it like? My Mrs and I have begun back and forth discussions after the shop on which items are not there/shelves empty - having seen some incredible footage on yt of stores in the US. Maybe it wasn't such a smart idea shipping the cheapest tomatoes in a can 12,000km from Italy after all.

In car terms, a good 2nd handy seems assured it's value for a while more.

Yeh, not been handled well at all. Mate over there reckons panic buying has made it twice as bad. People that didn't need to fill up went and filled up due to the panic, caused an acute shortage crisis, and now they are trying to catch up.
There is enough fuel, just can't get it to the bowsers quick enough, because panic buyers are emptying the stations. Some stations have imposed a 30 quid limit.

I'd happily drive trucks if the money was better, but I get paid significantly more driving a desk, without needing to spend thousands getting licenses and starting off delivering parcels.

There's way too much responsibility but not enough renumeration driving trucks for a living.

Yes I remember the days in the late 70's of odds and evens matter of fact I remember before rationing the long queues and people missing out if the garage ran out of fuel; watched many punch ups in those days of people pushing their way in.

When I worked for one of the big supermarket chains there, I was amazed to learn what sort of pressure and conditions logistic drivers were under. For example, the trucks are fitted with devices that monitors how well a driver drives e.g. are they applying brakes or throttle excessively, leading to higher fuel usage. And the data is then used in their performance reviews. Jeepers! Not sure how I would go to have my job being monitored to that degree.

Ads are now going or 50-70k pounds. 70k pounds would put you in the top 5 percentile of income earners in the UK.

Same here with a few companies, I believe the Finemores also have a camera that watches for eye movement.

My brother is starting a driving job this week. Starting rate is $55ph going up to $65ph.

The drawback is that it's a transport company in Pt Hedland and your driving quad side tippers.

I remember that we had 44 gallon drums in them times as backups.

A builder mate had a 44 in the centre line like as you drive into of double car garage in the 80's in town but at one point by law I believe you are not allowed to have 44 stored like that anymore. I am sure he said that.

It used to amaze me how when I lived in Queanbeyan a 15 minute drive from Costco all the fuel station prices were right up there compared to the Costco price. Even Fyshwick prices apart from the Metro servo which is closer to Costco than Queanbeyan used to be up there as well.
