AFL games set to get green light in Victoria, Bombers and Hawks flee state

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/...26-p57v6m.html

"AFL games in Victoria are set to go ahead as planned with an 85 per cent capacity allowed, and Marvel Stadium’s roof will open for the first time in 2021, while Essendon and Hawthorn will flee Melbourne on Wednesday to guarantee their weekend matches.

Sources said the government had given the AFL the go-ahead late Tuesday night."

Wow.....I expected a reduction of somewhere between 25-50%. Would be interesting if people still go. Friday night is the test, Bulldogs vs Dees, 1 and 2 on the ladder.

Plenty of other diseases to worry about in that case.

People will still go especially the younger generation who is so over being forced into lockdowns.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT May 25th, 2021.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

10 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.030%.

1 case and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.974% and active cases 22.

The UK had a lower 2,497 cases yesterday and 15 deaths.

Just over 21k new cases in the USA yesterday and 442 deaths sees CMR at 1.782%. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
Global cases drop pass 168M, the last 1M taking 3 days;
India passes 27M cases;

Réunion (1,335); and
Malaysia (7,289)

... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

No countries move above the 90th percentile for their 10 day average and none drop below.

Have noticed they have done away with the daily number updates, and are now providing the numbers as they come. Interesting.

Also seems Victorians are a sociable lot. One of the clusters started at a "finance" office building in Port Melb, and that bunch then went out to 3 different clubs in South Yarra that night / morning.

PS. The source of the 5 day snap lock down rumour has correctly called it very other lock down. Hoping this is a first strike.

Ummm.. Yes. It is. Escaped from SA, incubated in VIC, and now possibly taken into NSW metro. Not good at all. Last thing we need is this getting into other states.

If only we had dedicated quarantine facilities that were designed to prevent spread of airborne viruses!?? Morrisons pigheadedness on fixing the quarantine system, something HE is responsible for, is costing Australia dearly. Not a cent allocated for quarantine in his latest budget. Instead, spending YOUR money trying to win a popularity contest for himself. Doing what's best for himself and not the country during a pandemic.

New exposure sites being listed by the minute. Don't think a 5 day lockdown is suffice to bring this under control. Too many sites, and it also doesn't look to be just Melbourne metro either. My prediction is a 5 day state-wide lockdown, which will be extended to 14 days depending on numbers in the next 72 hours.

It is a lesson for all; go get vaccinated then we might be in a better position of fighting this virus.
Now people are ****ting themselves with this outbreak since being overly cautious in getting the jab.

The irony being that running for the jab now gives you jack-**** protection. Still, better late than never I guess

It is not answer for this recent outbreak but more for the future, in the last two months what I've seen and heard in media, forums and from people amuses me as at first people wanting the jab then hesitation which I think is one big joke. You either want to be vaccinated or not all.
I bit the bullet and I'm fine after having the AZ, better than procrastinating and worrying.

It’s not always that simple. I still have strong reservations about it, but will be receiving first vaccination around 14th June - as I believe it will satisfy likely upcoming administrative requirements.

Unrelated, who else has been reviewing early posts in this thread?

More people at the Yarra River bank last night than I had seen for a very long time for a Wednesday night. Absolutely no panic from what I saw. I think people were out to catch the silly orange moon.

Roads seemed quiet heading into the city but was pretty busy coming out. Cars were stacked on the Yarra boulevard where you can get a pretty good view.

No problems with a lock down if it's needed but that freaken 5km rule kills me.

An attitude problem but still out vaccinating all states when you exclude the federal jabs.

Hopefully this gives a kick up the feds backside, and they'll put more focus on this side. Could be another Dan master plan. Also hard to see them saying an outright NO to the Mickleham facility now

So far the cases seem to all be linked to very close contacts i.e. households or links to households, so likely to be a non event.

Actually a bit annoyed they didn't go for the immediate 3 day snap lock down earlier, when they knew the fella has been in the wild for 10 days.

I've heard that if you exclude the fact that you'll be killed then standing in the middle of the freeway is quite safe

"To cope with the surge in demand for vaccinations in Victoria, an extra 130,000 AstraZeneca doses will be allocated to the state over the next six weeks.
The federal government has offered an additional 40,000 doses this week, and 15,000 further doses per week for the next six weeks."

Aren't the AZs being manufactured in Vic? Close the borders. Time for some vaccine diplomacy.
