I think they'll be enough built.
About 1/3 of all GTF purchasers are on this forum judging by the poll. 72 FGX purchasers have also voted on this forum. Going by that ratio just over 200 XR8s have been spoken for so far, which is about the amount of the first allocation im lead to believe?

My dealer has presold his allocation of 6 , with a further 14 deposits from people he had to disappoint, and that was 2 months ago before pricing was given! Since then, dozens of further enquiries have been turned away from xr8. As a dealer he is gutted that he's only allocated 6 over 2 years.
They could sell 3 times the number if ford wanted to, but they need to migrate v8 buyers to the mustang within the year... That's the reason for limiting xr8

I have another 15- 17 years of work..... But- have plenty of disposable income, and I am sooo bored driving a gutless Honda euro. At this point I thought given the engine (and capacity to mod conservatively) for big HP , brakes, suspension and price, and fact the car is quite restrained visually, what the hell, last of the great chances to score a high tech "german style" V8 multi cam for "relatively" chump change....despite some people thinking I am psychotic buying a car unseen and undriven. However, some get it, a work colleague who used to have a mustang, heard I was in Africa for January game parking, and semi jokingly semi seriously asked if I was eaten by a lion while in the open air game park whether I would leave the XR8 to him in my will.... |

I think dealers are using the 1200 number to play on customers emotions to get these cars sold at full retail.
In some ways I think I have probably fallen for this, I placed my order/deposit in September being the first of 3 allocated to this dealer who wont see further cars until the middle of next year. On the other hand, I knew I wanted one, didn't want to wait it out see if all the rumours were just that. The price I signed for I deemed fair. And I will hopefully will be picking it up in a few weeks.

Yea its so hard to believe Ford will only produce 1200 but when u hear the exact same story from two separate dealers plus what you hear on this forum it makes you wonder if maybe there will be only the 1200, either way ive put my deposit down for one, at the end of the day they could build 100 or 10,000, it wont make any difference to me. I just cant wait to drive the beast.

Just have a think about the numbers.
On a good month, they've sold 500 falcon sedans. Last month it was just under 400. There will be an increase when the new model is released, but this will settle down before long. The bean counters would have done all their forecasting based on the recent sales figures. Now if 20% of all new FG-X are XR8s, and they do a total of 500/month, that's only 100 cars a month, so the "magical" 1200 figure will last 12 months. However, the indications from the data that is available to many, is there will be more than 1200 built, and the 1200 figure was touted as the number of ZF autos they have stockpiled, not the total number of Miami engines they could build. How many will be equipped with a manual trans? |

The 1200 number will prove false or true in due time without doubt. When I ordered mine I knew there was only 1200, and knew from here that there would be no "hot limited version" either. I ordered and negotiated my price. No doubt dealers will play on emotion and being enthusiasts (those who actually buy one), it's an emotional sale to start with. Mustang doesn't do it for me, falcon does so my new Xr8 is my last new car for sometime. My E-gas is the daily until it's wheels fall off. For those out there who reckon you can't get them, put an order in!!! Dealers can only sell their allocation but they can also order in, so put a deposit down and watch the order get placed. It can and does happen. My order won't be furfilled until March and I'm happy with that. Tip: orders don't count towards dealer allocations. Be careful what your dealer is telling you... I'll stir the pot and state this. IMO this thread has run it's course. Unless you buying the damn car or talking positively about one let's stop wasting post counts... My only mod to the Xr8 will be the stereo. Those who seen my Rockford Fosgate thread will know what will happen to this car...

When chatting with the Ford guy who had the black XR8 at Bathurst, we asked him if it had launch control as well and he said no. Maybe pre-production cars didn't have? or Wheels just being Wheels

Yeah, I have the latest Wheels with the 2 door XR8 coupe on the front.
It is a complete non-story. Craps on how if the Falcon wasn't dying we may have ended up with an XR8 coupe version.....blah......blah.......blah.......... Must have been a slow month, wasted a number of pages on irrelevant nonsense. |

If they couldn't justify a coupe when sales were at 8000 a month, how could they justify it when sales are less than 1000. Wheels

So complain when no Falcon is on the cover and no story about Falcon but when there is, so much hate. Can't wait for 2016.

I've heard of RWKW numbers for untuned FG Turbo's ranging from under 220 to 270 RWKW (a manual) and although many people may think "happy Dyno" when they see a number like 270 RWKW for a standard untuned car, I think a lot of the variation is caused because the Overboost feature often doesn't work during Dyno tests. Last year I had my standard untuned FG XR6T Auto tested on a Dyno Dynamics machine by a reputable tuner. I asked him to test my car in the exact same way that he tests these cars when taking a baseline power figure before tuning them. In Shootout 6F mode my car made 249 RWKW locked in 3rd gear and 244.7 locked in 4th. The week before he had tuned another stock FG XR6T Auto. It's pretune figure was just a bit under my car (7 RWKW less) and both cars had the same 12-13/AFR and the same boost (around 9 pounds). Also my car had new tyres and some load in the boot, so it's modest advantage may well have been due to less tyre slip on the rollers. Whatever the case though, they were close and my car doesn't look special. Another point to consider here is that these were probably slightly "happy Dyno" numbers because the test altitude was over 600 metres and the Dyno software typically over corrects (for the thinner air) where Turbo engines are involved. The plus correction would have been about 20 RWKW and I believe somewhere around 10 would have been right, so I think that this Dyno would have come up with something like around 234 RWKW for my car (in 4th gear) at near sea level, and that seems a pretty average figure for a stock XR6T Auto. However it was a very different story when my car was tested some time before at near sea level. It made 262 RWKW on a dyno that I know wasn't a "happy Dyno" (having seen quite a few standard cars tested on it). The reason for the difference? Well, it was treated more agressively and kicked down into 4th gear which obviously caused the overboost feature to work as evidenced by around an additional 18% more boost (approx 10.5 pounds) and a richer engine protecting fuel mixture. So it's looking to me like these cars get at least 10% more power when the overboost kicks in and (as mentioned in an earlier post) it's in this situation that they have similar pace to the slightly heavier F6's. The following RACELOGIC GPS test data is interesting. At WSID recently my untuned XR6T's rolling acceleration time from 60 to 180 kmh (where wheelspin isn't an issue) was 10.35 seconds. By contrast the fastest FG F6 Auto (60-180 kmh) time that I've seen was published in the June 2014 issue of WHEELS, the test was at WSID, the driver was very light, and the time works out to 10.2 seconds (or something close because hundredths of a second data was not published). Also I've collected Magazine FG F6 Auto RACELOGIC GPS test data from 8 other runs in 5 other tests, and all the 60 - 180 kmh times were in the 10 second bracket. The slowest was an FG F6 Auto Ute (MOTOR JAN 2011 issue) which clocked 10.94 seconds, also at WSID. Of course the F6's can no doubt keep up the pace for longer, but at least future G6ET and XR6T buyers should be able to get F6 like acceleration performance in everyday driving situations, unless the new model cars are a lot heavier (which I wouldn't expect). |

I see Brochures are now up on the Ford website.
Bit disappointing that its just re-CGI of the FG MK II brochure. I did notice though 19'' Dark Argent (the old F6 wheel) are available as a dealer fit option though.
