If they don't get a prison term then it will just give a green light for others to do the same.

More seriously, who believes these two sets of bolters (the Kiwi-bound and Queensland lovers) are the only ones? Or just the only ones caught? *I note, before others raise it, this overlooks the historical conflict between colonial and indigenous Australians. |

As much as you would like to see them in stocks in the town square I think it is the wrong thing to do. Victoria faced this situation last year. I reckon QLD have probably dogged a bullet in this one. Looks like they were late in the infectious stage. Hope NSW is lucky too

similar but not exactly the same, no prison for this border offence, https://7news.com.au/news/crime/qld-...-lie-c-2600418 IMO with this case, These young women got severely dealt with publicly on social media, due to the media revealing who they were! Yet before and after this case, every other offender gets protected and none of their identities were ever publicly exposed. where is the fairness or balance of reporting here? There should be more severe consequences for these border/ lock down breaches, it just might deter some, probably not all. Prison? Probably not enough room in our prisons for this at the moment though. and yes IMO there would be a heap more who have done the border/ lockdown breach, they just haven't been caught.

Hard to follow the logic. The lady got tested because her husband needed a negative test for a job application? A person, who broke the law, and lied on the declaration form, decided to voluntarily go for a test?

I wonder if our sample is biased because we tend to mix with those that have similar views to ourselves? I've not once said that my views are representative of the community as a whole. How can I when my sample size is so small? And I'm sure there are a lot of people who are over it. I just wonder as to what the 'real' sentiment amongst the community, as a whole, is? For me, the restrictions don't have much of an impact. Working from home one week out of two means that when further restrictions are imposed, there's little impact for me. And the allowance to get out and exercise allows me to do what I would normally do anyway. I've had to make some changes, but they are small and impact me very little. I'm comfortable (not happy) to make the sacrifice to see that we don't end up with the situation we see in many other countries where significant numbers of people fall ill or die from this pandemic. If you don't think that's worth it, FTE, then that's fine. Just don't assume that everyone feels the same way you do about it.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT June 9th, 2021.
Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting. 3 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR is 3.012%. 4 cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 0.964% and active cases 24. The UK had a higher 7,312 cases yesterday and 6 deaths. 21,233 new cases in the USA yesterday and 404 deaths sees CMR at 1.790%. Other notable points: Global cases pass 174M, the last 1M taking 3 days; Europe passes 47M cases; South America passes 30M cases; Africa passes 5M cases; Only - Afghanistan (1,842) ... recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day. No countries move above the 90th percentile for their 10 day average and none drop below.

I'm sure others have opposite pov like you say depending who you liase with. Nothing like being careful thats for sure and as for yourself being regional your in a far better world than the city folks, infact you wonder why not just close the CBD as has been mentioned in the past. My general pov is the lockdowns, this one is ott for such low numbers but I expect the so called powers above looking back whats occurred previously feel its best to close the gate not to trust the rank and file for things got/get out of hand yet its the systems in place and those involved who have caused most of the harm and failed right. Again our numbers are no where near whats occured outside our waters. Its control gone mad.

I do wonder if it is possible to split metro melb into zones, east - central - west, so that if there is an outbreak in one zone, then we put a temp border around that single zone. They'd have to work out all the roads that would require monitoring, quite a big task given its all interconnected, and you will still get people screaming "you can open the shop across the road but I can't".
Although, even if we had such a system, it probably would have been no good for the scenario we just had i.e. cases had spread to too many different areas before people got tested and cases confirmed. I do feel we are one bad super spreader event away from a calamity, regardless of what state or political party you align with. With covid I am glass half empty, mainly because of what has happened to people I know in other parts of the world. Doesn't look like it now. Her husband tested negative first time, then positive second time, which indicates it was towards end of the infectious period. Who knows. We were quick to call for a lynching but it may have been legit afterall i.e. relocating. |

It's the same concept as people saying seatbelts and crumple zones should be removed from new car designs as they're no longer needed, all the while pointing at the number of crashes versus the number of people who died in those crashes as proof. The only reason people often survive serious crashes is because of those features and removing them will result in more people dying in crashes instead. Without the lockdowns, "such low numbers" very quickly becomes high numbers. |

I'm patiently waiting for the new (Insert really scary name here) variant that will surface on June 28 so the current state of emergency restrictions can be extended further. Is anyone taking bets on what they're going to call it?

All part of the same family. They are concerned with upstream (who passed it to them) but not as concerned with down stream (who they may pass on to) as they have been isolating. Still a mystery how they caught it, but there is a casual link with one of the shopping centres on the exposure site. Only change is mask back on for outdoors. Federal assistance will cease tomorrow because metro melb will no longer be regarded as a hotspot. Which raises an interesting question, |
