They had a XR8 and XR6 in the window late on the afternoon of Sat 29th. I had been called by the new car manager to have a look but kids sports sabotaged that one...this week hopefully.
Want to get down to see the XR8 more closely as I have their 1st Manual (March production) locked in and it would be nice getting a hint of what what I am in for. I'm after an old-school musclecar experience when the welly goes in with short daily commutes but frequent weekend treks being the likely use. Reading between the lines after all the media BS about "features", "parts bin special" etc is exactly what I am likely to get which suits me fine. Bit frustrated if the early tight production is ramped up as I was a (hopefully) lucky early uptake and the thought of some rarity suited me (& suits me) fine...but then she isn't a FPV and being "just a Ford" meant I could deal with that dealership and not the others who had exclusive access to Miami until now. JHF's WA competitors are their best advertisement, 'though have to admit the experience itself so far with them has been pretty good and I didn't get gouged when inking a car in early October. They knew back in early October that they had a "halo car" with XR8 even though I had more info from here than Ford had given them at that time. |

Lets do the maths: # $46,000 US = $54,792.00 AUS #shipping/transfers/cleaning say $5,000.00 AUS Sub Total - rounded $60,000.00 GST- $6,000.00 = $66,000 So, allowing for currency fluctuations and conservative transfer costings, probably not less than $70,000 plus on roads....

No, we're just stupid making work for ourselves with our daily drivers but at least we will feel good when they are clean and look good.

Japan, Singapore, Sth Africa, UK are all RHD, so would be thinking it's a pretty standard option.
Plenty of cashed customers in above-mentioned countries.....

17kg - find a smaller driver. A pretty insignificant weight in the scheme of things it shouldn't have that much of a bearing on the times.

Did they spool it up. Or just take off.
Mags have been recording low to mid 13s forever with fg f6 and xrt.

Whilst real world drivers did high 12s.
Part of the holden media marketing machine. Can't have 6cyl turbos thrashing the holden v8s, can we?

That's a GPS locator, not nav, the nav system is all pre loaded on the models that get it, but the maps are on an sd card, guarantee if you put the sd card in an xr6 it won't work. I've tried....

Perhaps there wasn't enough grip to make a high stall work and as I've found, that can cost nearly half a second. Also if the overboost doesn't work then I believe the combination can cost around a second. As I've mentioned previously, at WSID I got a mid 12 out of my stock untuned XR6T Auto that I've had since new, and I was careful not to give the car a hard time before the run, as I wanted to make sure that the overboost was working (didn't do a burnout). Actually my RACELOGIC GPS data has shown me that if the rear brakes don't hold during a high stall, then at least 10-12% rolling pace is lost if I don't give the car a cooldown run before trying again. So it seems that the overboost doesn't work when this happens. It's normally available in everyday real world driving but I wouldn't expect it to work too well if the car was to run back to back 1/4 mile runs without a cooldown run between. I think that may be a problem with published tests that we see. If they keep doing practice starts and 1/4 mile runs without cooldown runs, then I suspect there may be no overboost by the time they get the best launch. Then if there isn't enough grip for a high stall launch, a potential mid 12 second car can end up with a mid 13 second time. I think it's similar with the Supercharged GT V8. We know owners can get well down into the 12's with above mid 180's end speeds in a dragstrip run, but most of the published road tests that I've seen have been quite a bit slower. That’s because too many drivers forget to pull over and give the car a rest between traffic lights.

Guy other than the top gear magazine road test, write up and shoot out with the redline what other motoring magazines have had write ups on the new XR8's?
