When this thread started you pushed some buttons but I thought you were just stating the obvious, albeit hard to swallow for some. Now I just think your a troll with '0' credibility! |

I am not claiming to be anything other than someone free of blinkers and open to the realities of doing business in Australia in the 21st century. Perhaps I would be more welcome here if I ranted about the decision, blamed a range of people, and expressed a desire to turn the company around single handedly.

Why do you have to belittle the enthusiasm of others to do something they believe in? I dunno if you realise it, but that's exactly what you come across as doing.

That's 40,000+ units per year we could be building for local buyers, never mind the export potential. |

Mate you must admit some of the concepts flying around for Operation: Save Falcon are somewhere between dreamland and a hard session on the bongs.

As said before, its easier to be a sheep... it takes balls to stand up and at least make an effort, something sadly lacking nowadays.
Every decision we make with regard to our spending, not just cars, has a flow-on effect Those of us who choose an imported product when a locally one was a viable option are doing nothing to support their own economy. Eventually, they will be faced with less choice, not more. I have been fortunate in as much as I HAVE had a choice to buy an Australian vehicle that suits my needs admirably and have done so. This wont be so for those come 2016 if you like the Ford or shortly after that for Holden fans. Australia will be a poorer place for it. |

And? What's your point? Too often have I heard people sitting around and criticizing the general populace for being complacent and not fighting for what they believe in. As soon as someone does however, they're met with ridicule and objection. Usually, the people doing the criticizing are the same people; and I'm not certainly not saying this is definitely the case here, so don't think for a second I'm saying you're that way inclined. However, it makes people want to stand up less, for fear, not of failure, but of being laughed at. As you said, those who disagree with you have your blessing to go forth and conquer (or not). I'd rather see a bunch of people stand up and fight for what they believe in, regardless of the grandiose plans they have that may or may not work, don't forget though, when the suffragists campaigned for female voting rights, they too were laughed at, and told they were ridiculous. Sometimes ridiculous works, and if it doesn't, well at least someone had the balls to try, and that's FAR better in my eyes than just sitting around and mocking people.

Mate go for it - noble cause and yes we should do what we can to keep jobs secure whenever possible.
On the issue of Ford making cars in Australia though, it seems the ship has sailed.

That's exactly how I tell it. On many occasions it gets me in trouble, but I NEVER let the thought of ridicule or censorship stop me from speaking my mind. I do believe though that many more people would 'stand up' if not for their fear of ridicule. |

You're comparing an engine decision with the decision and public announcement to cease manufacturing in Australia altogether?

There's a huge difference in convincing the public to "buy Australian" when you are talking about something like a fridge or a shirt or an apple, compared to them laying down forty large or more on something like a car, that has ongoing running costs associated with it.
A family car is hardly a simple spur of the moment discretionary purchase that people won't think twice about. They'll hardly be dropping a large amount of money on a type of car they don't really see a need for in their life just to "Buy Australian"... |

In many ways the Falcon is like Homebrand Muesli.
Unloved, made in Australia from local and imported ingredients.

I buy everything I can out of the states. It's cheaper. And I have my other reasons. I do buy my fruit and vegetables in Australia though. I support local.

Thread got lost on its intended topic many pages back for the most part.
What’s being discussed isn’t about Ford and manufacturing 2016. Closed
