It's not a lock down, it's a "stay-at-home order".

Less business compensation / support package required if its not a "lock down" and they are allowed to stay open, despite probably receiving no customers due to low foot traffic.
Similar thing happened in Vic. "Non essential" seemed to be more loosely applied and enforced this lock down. Yes, I'm a cynic.

They don't have to complain when they are not shut down. But as far as I understand Merlino whinged enough to wedge the Fed gov and milk a new class of payment which may or may not apply to NSW

It was agreed that Business support comes from states. Wage support come from Feds. I think the rules are, hotspot declared and longer than a week.

Spent 5 hours at Perths Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Thoracic unit, it was a pre admission assessment for surgery on Monday morning.
I seen the thoracic surgeon, the anaesthetist, an advanced scope physio, a theatre nurse, and a clinical nurse, had blood tests and my final chest xray! Not one person in that group asked me or mentioned anything about Covid-19, nothing, not if I had even been vaccinated, or if I had my flu shot!!! Crazy eh! Cheers King Billy |

Yeah I think it was Fed declared hotspot (not whatever the States get up to) to get payments which is fair enough since they are paying out the pesos.

Meanwhile, tried to get some clarification on the ski fields this evening, only to be told that tests are no longer required? Nice superspreading event in the waiting.

Just wonder if Herr Andrews little dust up down on the peninsula had any bearing on this decision?

I think the Mickleham site sits better for the international flights at Tulla. The choice of Avalon could have looked bad with Dans cronyism, who knows or who cares but Fox misses out gaining something from using other peoples money.

Data valid as at 00:00 GMT June 25th, 2021.

The Mickleham facility if for all sorts of animal quarantine and replaced the ageing facility at Spotswood (probably also on some valuable real estate) that had been used since the original site at Port Nepean (opened in 1852) was repurposed in 1950.
It will no doubt get the people in the new developments at Merriefield un-merry but it's no different to those who get cheap housing under flight paths. They have already been whining about the animal noise from the existing facility which was flagged for construction well before the first 'land sale' sign went up out there and this will no doubt add to their angst despite being 4km away from the housing development.

Where ever it is, from nothing to something in less than 6 months (assuming on schedule) , is a huge win. Reckon there will be any kudos given to those who proactively made it happen?
The article doesn't say who will build it either. Could L. Fox still get the gig?

The federal govt has had to be dragged kicking and screaming to get anywhere near building a proper quarantine facility. They should have sat down with the states and territories ages ago to arrive at a national quarantine policy/program. Instead of showing leadership when it was needed they played politics, attacking the Labor states at almost every opportunity. (I couldn't care less about Fox losing out and Dan will still be a big chance to get a very plum job there when he retires.)

It is however interesting that some states are actually not interested in a similar facility. One of the managers at work drove up on Wednesday to visit his grand daughter. He was to spend the weekend up there, then come back. We advised him to turn around as some of the news was trickling through. He didn't. We have a covid taskforce team set up at work, and they seem to somehow get tidbits of news before it is publicly released.

Wow...was it only yesterday I saw a chan 7 reporter rocking up to his house, and asking if he felt responsible for the mess? Where is the decency these days.
Reminds me of nebuliser man. Hung by media before all facts were confirmed. Limousine driver at the centre of Bondi cluster wont be charged, Police Commissioner says https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-...iver/100246830

It was very vindictively administered; “insufficient evidence” is not a nice way to say things.

Holy crap! 900 coworkers exposed at this NT site have gone home after being on site with the positive case whilst he was Infectious.
Let's hope this doesn't become the next superspreader event! https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-...case/100246406

I’m starting to think the latest round of stupormarket panic buying in Sydney is at least partly the proud Aussie tradition of “taking the #1”. People looking for a black-humoured laugh in the face of gloom. |
