Carl Edwards (Roush) is about the top driver this year for Ford.
Currently second in the points,
and earlier this year he was fined $$$ and 100 points
for having the oil tank cap off the tank in post race inspection.
Stupidest fine ever.
NASCAR has always been somewhat anti-Ford,
and I could give many examples.
Anyway, Ford teams got behind on the new COT race car,
and worked hard over the winter to catch up.
Robert Yates Racing (now Yates racing run by son Doug Yates)
has had a few tough years.
Roush pretty much went to the top of the heap several years ago,
and the Wood Brothers (#21) are now sort of under the Roush/Yates wing.
The Wood Brothers got Bill Elliott (legend in my opinion) to help them out this year.
With Roush/Yates assistance, Help from Bill Elliott,
it looks as if the Wood Brothers are ready to storm back.
I am very pleased that Marcos in behind the wheel,
and he is doing a fine job.
Ford needs a new star, and it looks as if Mr. Ambrose is the man to be it.
This is fine with me, and it has rarely been unmentioned from where he came
(Australia/Tasmania) and that he is a 2 time champion in the Supercar series.
American fans have a great deal of reverence and respect for the Australian people,
and the Supercar series, as it is televised live sometimes.
It's all good.
We are glad Marcos is here and doing well for Ford, the Wood Brothers,
and representing Australia in a classy, gentlemanly, clean and polite way,
and WINNING!

Thanx for that birdman941, so the wood bro's and people behind them are no amateurs.
For some some reason i thought that his team (Wood bro's) where not in the leage of roush.

What is it with race organizations being somewhat ANTI ford, we prety much had/ have that going on in V8 supercars/ tin top racing.

I dont think Marcos would drive anything but a BLUE OVAL.

We have a definite liberal media here, severely out of the mainstream touch.

I agree.
Ford will never let him go, and I don't think he would want to.

The Wood Brothers have been around a long time,
with plenty of famous drivers behind the wheel, and some not so famous.
David Pearson (Silver Fox) is one.
The Wood Brothers are actully the team that began the whole
"fast pit stop" deal back in the 60's.
Before that, teams took their sweet azz time refueling and changing tires.
Good enough for them to pit an Indy 500 crew one year. (They were invited)
It's now standard affair, but it was revolutionary in its day.
Mr. Ambrose is in good, experienced hands, just not too lucky as of late.
Until now.

Guys can I ask a REALLY stupid question....

Does the driver pocket the race winnings? Would this be additional to some base payment for the driver?

And the team gets its money from sponsorship etc?

Thanks

Craig

i believe the driver pockets the winnings. they probably get lower retainers and so most of their wage is made up from winnings

the team would no doubt get some prize money, but obviously sponsorship is a big deal. american racing is based on trying to help everyone and keep the show alive and therefore give enterntainment to the fans - who of course give over the money in the first place

i would think american racing is on it's own in this respect

In the states, Nascar drivers normally get 40-50% of the purse,
and a percentage of souvenir sales.
