Sad but expected news, anyone looking to make an investment on the last GT, I have a bridge I can sell you while you're at it. I hope the last XR8 is something special. I won't be blindly buying one just because it's the last one. There are very good cars out there now at competitive prices (did I tell you how much I loved driving the A45, but I digress). A XR8 with a 335 engine, R-Spec suspension tune with brembo brakes and sport leather seats will potentially do me fine. Oh and around 60k as well.

FH Ford XR8 - 320kw
FH Ford GT - 350kw (edit: i have no inside knowledge, just specualting) Who's to say that Ford won't continue the GT name? In a selfish way, having just bought a November built FPV GT, i hope the GT name dies with FPV... But, who knows? If FH does have a GT, i might have to make a 2015/2016 purchase, but i'd still love to keep my FPV. Did Ford actually say the GT name would be killed? |

Wow so the coppers will need to start stocking up on performance cars.
So what will our NSW boys be stuck in afterwards? FWD Aurions like qld or 300c? I wonder if people understand the gravity of what's about to happen? No more falcon post 2016, FPV, XR6, XR6T, F6, performance utes or v8. HIV must be in a similar position surely.... So we are left with some type of new mustang and that's it. Can we at least have an xr8 with a decent tune, suspension and brakes. So I don't have to upgrade **** after the fact. Last edited by timeout; 11-11-2013 at 07:23 PM. |

Ford Aus was left with no options, you've killed FPV at a cost. What will happen now, will you destroy the Ford Performance fans from 1968 to 2014 or will you bring the falcon GT back to it's glory.
So what we have so far: XR8 is back apparently miami 335... tba coming months XR6 & XR6t will stay for now Final FPV models to come!! Sad times but can't wait to see newbies Come FH Ford GT falcon will be a screamer 351sc Come FH no F6 or will you do it to differ from XR6t? Come Ford mustang (woo hoo put me down for one) and then nothing with four doors or any Real Ford Performance.. come 2016

Interesting to see what any final FPV models will include... from a selfish point of view, hopefully not too much extra... In saying that, i am very happy with the price i got my GT for, and if the 'final' FPV goes for 90k, i think i'd be happy with the money i saved in my pocket...

Sad news, but was always going to happen. Very happy that I invested in what's turned out to be the first and last supercharged FPV GT model, in a colour unique to the FG series (as opposed to FG-II), and with the right gear box...
If they put the supercharged 335 in an XR8, it's fine with me. If the price is right (although I expect it will be more than some anticipate), it will give many more the opportunity to experience this fine example of a forced-induction V8. I just hope they don't skimp on the brakes like the GS...

Sad news but we all knew it was coming. Glad to see the XR8 nameplate return, I never lied the GS nameplate being used. Will be interesting to see what they do with the models next year before they can them.
Will I buy the last GT? Probably not. The RSpec is great and I love it, but its missing so much in todays market that theres no way I will shell out the better part of $100k for another FG2 in 6 months time. The platform is already lacking so much compared to much cheaper cars that it will be stupid to buy the outgoing dated model. To little to late im sorry Ford. I will stick with the Rspec and cross my fingers that Ford dont butcher its memory with a sticker pack (kidding myself really). For those holding their breath I would speculate the last GT will be an Rspec with the Black Concept front bar, 351kw Stickers but its unlikely to actually get a power increase, GTP seats and 6/4 Brembos. It will be what we all thought the Rspec should have been last year. It will still have the same FG interior, stupid starter button and no tech upgrades. When you can now get a Gen F GTS for mid $90k and lower for Ex Demos, Ford are crazy to think they will be able to sell their offering at anything close. Anyone buying at that price has rocks in their heads.

At this price point it will be worse speced than the GS. I have nothing against the XR8, but if there is no GT in the lineup, I couldn't care what they release. The cynic in me is running riot and I see it for what it is. A non emotive , mechanical marketing decision to get rid of stockpiled V8 drive trains. Ce la vie. |

If the Black Concept bar didn't make it's way on to the 2012 R-Spec there's even less chance it would arrive on anything next year. After R-Spec Prodrive weren't working on anything for the GT.
I think it will probably be an R-Spec II with GT-P seats and 6/4 Brembos.

Worse specced is a difficult assumption. Our friends in the red camp went kinda nuts and rewrote the spec sheet at the price points with VF. To be competitive 'FH' will need to pull out the stops. Like it or not.

I think thats the worse thing they could do. To me anyway. What was the point of doing the RSpec in the first place. It ruins the RSpecs credentials and comes across half arsed. They need to do something properly special or do nothing at all. Even then though they are likely to want to much money for it.

I understand the role the XR8 played in Falcon’s history and also the importance and reverence in which it is held by many Falcon lovers but Ford started with the GT and should end with it.
Who was it that told the Ford hierarchy that the XR should be the model that signs off on the Falcon’s performance heritage or is it just a matter of Marketing BS and the real answer lays in taking the cheaper option so they can than get away with using a down spec XR? Another Marketing spin on how to let down the old & new Falcon GT brigade. . |

The Ford Performance Racing brand was created at the same time as Ford Performance Vehicles...with FPV being disbanded, what will FPR be branded as (if Ford continue to sponsor the team?)
