Tyres look to be the original type of red wall thing they had when new.
Talking to a dude who bought the new type of original 1970's tyres for his 350 HQ Monaro to keep it all original, he feared for his life driving it with them on, as they were just so bad that one forgets how bad they were back in them days. |

This is why we have anxiety. So we stop doing stupid things that can put us in danger or put others in danger. Quote:
Fact is you need to remind yourself of these things from time to time. If we forget just how important a simple third party inspection is on our cars then why bother even putting brakes on them? Sometimes in the furor of building your dream ride you just plain forget. This guy thought he knew better than a rego check, yet he was a mechanic? That is incredibly low. Everyone on here should remember to check, double check and triple check. Then check again. Then get it checked by a third party. Then insure it! Then and only then should you register it. Thats the process in place to keep us all safe. I'm sorry this happened and feel for those who were injured and the girl who lost a future child. Last edited by moneypit; 20-06-2017 at 09:12 PM. |

this raises a good point about rebuilds and restorations.
Where do you go to test them. most people i know test them on the street because thats the only place you can (usually 30 meters up the road, turn around and come back). Even legally - most people will restore a car in the garage and then drive it to get rego'd (in nsw you can drive it to get rego'd and a whole bunch of reasons) http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/regi...egistered.html I always cringed when i worked at a servo and the mechanic did the rego brake tests - basically go down a back street and jam on the brakes - I once asked him what he would do if they didnt work - i dont think he had an answer and i saw some bangers go through that place |
