Work for me has pretty much dried up. I hear more and more that they may completely shut down the sydney cbd and only allow essential services for greater sydney for 14 days. If that happens, im off for 2 weeks due to no clients being open. My mum is currently off work due to closure as the courts arent doing new trials at the moment. Dunno which genius decided it was a good idea to put it in the paper, but the police have stopped the booze busses due to exposure risks. They can still bring out the breatho if you get pulled over roadside.

Social distancing = “Just far cough”?

Still got so much work as I want, two jobs within 100m of the house.

Besides a baby boom, if people who normally enjoy time apart are in isolation together too much - it might also fragment some relationships...

Hopefully just a cold.

I go weekly to RPA Sydney for Cancer treatment - developed cold/flu symptoms during last week - most likely I brought it up from the sth coast. The specialist/doctors wanted me tested/swabbed, so I went to the clinic set up there for that - big throughput I noticed (they were busy), mainly healthcare workers, didn't notice a lot of elderly people.
Getting tested was quite political - my medicos insisted, the testing medicos said not required as I didn't fit some/all criteria, overseas travel, contact with COVID-19 positive person. I ended up being tested, and admitted overnight as I couldn't self isolate for 24hrs til results come back. Ended up being only Rhinovirus (Common Cold).
Only thing is I guess if I was positive - how would you trace back my people contact since it was multiple public transport/buses/trains, etc ?

We have 2000 ICU beds nation wide. If 5% of cases require critical care, that's equivalent to 40,000 cases total. While we can stay on top of it, the mortality rate remains low, under 1% with high level/quality care.

If we exceed the number of ICU beds, the mortality rate increases. Italy has a better health system than ours. But its capacity has been exceeded, and this is reflected in the mortality rate:

Mar 2 - 2036 cases, 52 deaths, 2.5% CFR
Mar 9 - 9172 cases, 463 deaths, 5.0% CFR
Mar 16 - 27980 cases, 2158 deaths 7.7% CFR

The whole point of trying to slow the spread is to reduce the burden on the hospital system.

But hey, if you think it's acceptable, then don't complain if you have a bad reaction to it, and rather than receiving care, you're triaged instead in the hallway like they are in Italy... and left to die.

Mortality rate is 0.2% in my age group - its very much the exception not the rule, I'll take my chances - more chance of winning lotto than karking it from the beervirus.

Absolute worst case for Australia they quoted 150,000 deaths by the time its done and dusted, you know, the same amount of people who die from accidents and natural causes every year in Australia.

And what about your older friends/relatives? Like vaccination, social distancing during a pandemic is a social responsibility.

That number is based on 20% infection rate and the current global fatality rate. Neither of those numbers are worst case.

It's attitudes like yours that are why we need a lockdown, because people cant be trusted to be sensible or responsible.

i don,t get why its political for testing, someone here posted a video about how the s Koreans did good, the Koreans say they tested 1000,s and drive through testing too. and 5 hours later there is a result. even WHO is saying "test, test, test"

the govco are saying isolate etc., and not erring as well, to a personal concern and get tested, i don,t understand?

Chicken Little attitudes like yours are why people are punching up over toilet paper and people are raiding the shops running them out of stock all over the nation making it difficult to get the essentials.

I'm the sensible one here, rather than crashing the economy and causing enormous damage over an overblown cold that came out of China because how much of a dirty backwards society they have.

Yeah, hard to tell - the testing labs probably have a high throughput - I was told 24 to 48 hrs for results - a lot can happen during that period.

Find a friend/relo with a lemon tree, you can make a lot happen with that and some basics. Get spring onions and plant them in a pot of dirt, harvest the greens only.

A new experience in dinner every night in my bogan arsed way of living. When I ran a HVAC company I had no work in autumn or late spring, so I used to cook a lot as a hobby. When I was a single dad I had to scrape by on a low budget and used that earlier cooking experience to please a kids palate with something also cheap and healthy.

So I can wrangle up recipes easy and often working with what I've got on hand, but because I was self employed and then a stay at home dad the past 12 years no one will hire me now LOL. So it's food for one now and anything goes

The fear porn merchants stating the 150,000 deaths should be held accountable if they are incorrect. And they will be. This type of ill informed, if not fake news reporting, causes the average low intelligence person to panic and bulk buy.

80% of people who catch Covid-19 will have minor symptoms.

The beat up of Covid-19 in the media is abhorrent. Ebola, which had a 90% fatality rate received no where near the amount of media exposed this minor flu like virus has.

No one holds the media accountable for the BS they throw out, but they're the first to whinge about the government getting involved.

There should be standards on reporting, all journalists are these days is university educated propagandists working for their corporate overlords selling half truths.

No supply problem with most goods. Never seen an issue with fresh fruit and veg, or any other department store items.
It's solely panic hoarding by FBtards that believe any crap they read. It started with toilet paper FFS! Should have bought a cheap made in China bidet before China shut down.

Start a lie and so many stupid people will act on it if it's on social media because that's all they pay attention to. The stuff on social media is way worse than the legit stuff. And people trust their 'peers' on social media way more than they trust the mainstream media.

Mainstream media was pushing for urgent action and they were right. Now we in Australia are being reactive and cutting things after the horse has bolted, being conservative. The useful media was saying things like cut/enforce self isolation on international travel from all countries, but the gutless gov only did China. There's been useful suggestions from the mainstream media that only consult experts and double check so they aren't only relying on useless politicians or lib cronies. Social media says useless things like buy all the toilet paper you can.

I believe South Korea tested some 600,000 people.

In reality, just over 1% of the population.

This is very interesting to watch.... From 5 years ago.

Bill Gates on TED back in 2015, "The next outbreak? We’re not ready".

Hmm... A few days ago he steps down from the board of Microsoft.

He is also rumoured to be buying a $600M Hydrogen powered super Yatch.
... The high seas seems a safe haven?

Does he know more than we think with his "modelling" he talks about in the second video.

The next outbreak? We’re not ready

What Bill Gates is afraid of

No, it's because its apparent we'll go into lockdown at some point, but the government are more concerned about looking like they're in control rather than being straight with people and spelling out what a lockdown will look like.

Most people assume it means they cant work, period. Even though most people will still be able to. They assume they wont be able to go shopping, but most people will still be able to.

Keeping people in the dark is what causes panic.

If we don't have 150,000 fatalities, it will be because we took steps to prevent it. Following your logic, drink drivers should be let go because they haven't caused a crash yet.

It had a lot of exposure at the height of the epidemic. Ebola, by the time its contagious, leaves people bedridden. They are effectively self-isolating. That's why it doesn't spread anything like a flu.

I really REALLY hope and pray that the deniers and those calling “chicken little” are correct with their prophesies!
BUT, what if you’re NOT?
This isn’t just Australia spruiking your so called “media fear”!..
So far 140 countries are infected World feckin wide! Are they ALL part of this massive conspiracy??
Where I live, even though our numbers are low at 41 infected, zero deaths (SO far) it has been taken incredibly seriously! (As it has in the rest of Central America) Borders closed, bars, nightclubs, farmers markets and most social gatherings totally shut down!
This will be absolutely devastating for an economy like Costa Rica that’s so reliant on tourism... WHY would they commit economic suicide, if they didn’t believe the threat to be genuine???
As for my earlier post on possible Australian fatalities... This was released by Australia’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer... Not conjured up by some sensationalistic 2nd rate newspaper!
You guys shunning all the suggested public advice about social distancing and interaction guidelines with others (because you’ve heard it’s all a “con” and/or doesn’t affect your age group) Is just plain bloody selfish, and possibly even DEADLY to the rest of the population!
You want to take that risk???
I’m one of the biggest conspiracy theorists, and was also a doubter when this Coronavirus thing first broke...
Not anymore! These are dire, history changing times people!
Treat it seriously at your own peril!!!

Another reason that this virus has the capability to be particularly devastating to Australia (and the Southern Hemisphere) is our seasons.
Whilst the North is coming into warmer months, Winter in Australia is not that far away, when every 2nd person has the sniffles etc...
We are far from the eye in the storm yet... I hope not, but I fear this is going to get a hell of a lot worse, before better?
Take care all, and for once... let’s abide by the advice the authorities are pushing!

Default Re: Covid 19 -

covid 19 is a problem because it can cause respiratory failure in the elderly or those with pre-existing conditions.
Instead of doing what we can/could to protect the elderly, healthier younger people at less risk are raiding the supermarkets, or were freely travelling to and from Europe or the USA recently - including dumbarsed dutton.
Biggest threat to humanity is and has always been humanity.

Would have been better to suspend travel/forced isolation earlier, look after the vulnerable (no exposure to them if been overseas, been in contact from anyone overseas, or even later (now) been out in large group events. The only people needing isolation right now is people that visit or work with the risk groups, and that group themselves take measures themselves.

To have everything presented to us in drips and drabs as it was is pathetic. Advice keeps changing because they want to keep the status quo because that's always been good for the conservatives and they know no different (they fight to protect the good thing they've got going on).

The core message I said above should have been said and carried out very early on. But quick early steps aren't the hallmark of a conservative gov in general, and not morrison especially.
how good is that?

What Bill Gates is afraid of

Gates is not building a hydrogen powered yacht, that is BS.
And he also doesn't have some secret knowledge about this virus.
