I know a lot of taxi owners who would disagree, most will tell you their AUs were the best ( most reliable) cabs they have owned

Having owned my Au for 7 years, i'd say, they are not perfect, but the redeeming features far out weigh any small faults, I would agree with earlier post regarding brake feel, wonderful steering, great handling, I would enter my xr6 in slalom agaist all comers, for reliability best car I have ever owned.
Definatly ahead of it's time in some respects, and a generally a good all around car full stop. |

The 'dog taking a dump' look could never be considered ahead of it's time.
I don't believe it's looked all that much more favorably today than it was when it was released, hence how could it be considered ahead of it's time? The S3 XR's did look good with the rear squared up with the wing and the S3 T's looked fantastic. I ended up going Gen3 VT when the AU was in Series 2 because I just couldn't stand the look of them. Would have been a harder choice if it were VT or S3 though. |

I've had various incarnations of the LWB falcons over the years, and I must say, the AU1 was the worst car I owned and was a workshop queen with metal to metal suspension noise, but the AU2 LTD I had was probably my most favourite car.
It was as comfortable as anything I've owned, was full of lovely drama in so far as engine noise, ride and all that chrome. Most beautiful interior I've ever had in a car and by far the most satisfying I've had. BA LTD that replaced it was a massive disappointment in so far as interior goes and exterior, and the 5.4 was very nowhere near as fun as the 5.0 litre in the AU2. As an all rounder the AU2 for mine was the most ostentatious LTD ever built, and the biggest mistake I've made to date was selling it. The FG's however, are out of this world. Sit yourself in a G6 turbo and you'll be saying "A who?" BF got better but I still miss my beloved AU2.

I only liked the AU in the XR and T series variants. All the rest of them are dog ugly to me. Good cars though. Just look like a bloated *** hole.

While this thread was started with very good intention by a reputable member, some comments are de-railing it. For further comment on the topic, please refer to this existing thread which i have made sticky, and can act as the discussion point for AU Falcons.
A warning for everyone to think before they post in there. Happy debating. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11350680
