Scroll up. Was discussed earlier.

Btw, I agree with you. Wish we had it in the Ford lineup

I think it's just vicious cycle of they only offer diesel engines in our market so Australia only buys diesel engines and so they only offer diesel engines.

USDM Ranger has no diesel, only Ecoboost.

The only unleaded competitors are the Hilux Workmate and the VW Amaranger but only at top spec.

Think you can still get the 2.4 petrol in the Triton, or has the new model discontinued it?

I’ve been watching developments with the new Tacoma in the US, that thing
has a 2.7 turbo hybrid petrol engine with 326 hp and 465 lb ft of torque
To me, that sorta looks like the replacement for a V6 turbo diesel.

Long gone I believe, only options is diesel on their website

The specs on that 2.4L unleaded engine are woeful - 94KW/194NM

That's less torque than my 20 year old unleaded Mazda B2600, which its engine was designed in the 1980s.

Yes, it was gone in late 2022, but it wasn't that bad a motor. Simple, reliable & good for around town without all the downside of owning a Diesel.

Absolute bizzaro-world out there these days, used Triton povvo pack with the unleaded engine is just under $30K for 5sp manual unleaded job with 20,000km on the clock.

New workmate Hilux povvo pack is $33K DA, up from $26K DA.

Remember when the PX Ranger was introduced at $19,990 or something for the povvo pack unleaded job

That's still cheaper than a three year old Suzuki Jimny being sold secondhand at Maryborough Toyota.

How's the petrol Nissan patrol doing against the diesel rivals?

I'm sure the anti diesel crowd will come up with a list of reasons why it's not outselling landcruiser, Everest etc. Sure, it's pricey, but apparently people are only buying diesel because there's no other option.

Am I what you coin as the 'anti diesel' crowd?

If so, how come I own a diesel ute?

Small diesel engine - only 8.3L.

It's a ute as far as I'm concerned, its just a scaled up space cab Ranger or Hilux

Limited RHD production is its issue.
It's only made for here, and doesn't get the updated LHD interior.

V8 Patrol's are extremely popular around here, most have aftermarket exhausts, so they sound pretty good too. I would say most of them are farm write offs.

Think there is still shipping issues. If you ask different dealers the wait times are everywhere (I'm under the impression that rav 4 is quoted at a 18 month wait). You would think by the end of the year this should even put when you have these high delivery numbers for vehicles that only last for the month.

Ford getting their own ship was a good idea. It's probably getting orders easier (from fleets) that they might not have to compete as hard for.

A couple of months back, we could hear someone revving the guts out of their car in the carpark. This is not unusual as the we have a motor museum right next to us, so visitors giving their car a bit of rev in the carpark is a frequent occurrence (not complaining by the way, its usually an Aussie V8 or some kind).

Anyway, whatever it was, they were banging the thing off the rev limiter. I went into the front courtyard to see what it was, to my surprise it was a V8 Patrol parked out front. Sounded waaaay more potent and exotic than the bloated overweight SUV appearance would have you believe.

The workshop who did the engine mods on my SS also does 4WD stuff. One of the shop cars is a V8 patrol with headers, exhaust and Harrop Blower (2650 I think) and it sounds amazing, especially under load. Will be a shame to see it replaced by the TTV6 in the new one.

Not specific to the Australian market, but sales related.

Mercedes-AMG planning a 585-hp V8 for the AMG CLE 63
Slow sales of the four-cylinder PHEV AMG C 63 S making a statement at HQ

https://www.autoblog.com/2024/05/12/...he-amg-cle-63/

I think we all knew the four-cylinder AMG's were a step too far in terms of "downsizing". Either AMG ignored instinct, or they did it on purpose so that they could make an impact by "bringing the V8 back because we listen to our customers" type of deal. Same happened when Porche dropped the manual GT3, then made a killing when they brought it back.

Jeep takes axe to Grand Cherokee prices

Jeep has slashed prices of its Grand Cherokee by up to $28,000 as sales of its latest generation of family SUV have continued to slump.

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...herokee-prices

This illustrates just how much fat is built into car pricing in this country.

Applies to 2023 model only however I still agree with your final point. Cars are overpriced (as are houses) yet while demand outstrips supply it will remain that way.

I know someone who had one of those, it was just as bad as the Range Rover that replaced it, always something wrong with the thing, even one of the headlights fell out onto the road while sitting at the traffic lights. Just American made junk.

I'd believe it, I have photos sitting around somewhere of our customers 1990s Jeep Cherokee where the doors literally fell off it.

We'd repair the wiring loom in the door which fell off.

That 4L I6 was bullet proof though, it was always fixing the shitbox that housed it.

This was a common misconception, but is not true, however they do look very similar.

The Jeep I6 is the Rambler 6 seen in the Hornet & other cars from AMC, in the 60s, 70s & 80s. Before Chrysler owned Jeep the compnay was owned by AMC/Rambler.

Dr Terry
Each time I read about American I-6 engines, it makes me realise just how fantastic the Barra six was.

I wonder if Holden had it’s time over whether it would have evolved its I-6 the same way…
The painful cost of Nissan I-6 that nearly broke them and then settling for Buick V6…yikes….
I guess the Alloytec won back a lot of buyers but still seems like the long way around…
Still, the Alloytec probably won back a lot of lost ground…
