if it were up to me it would have the brakes and lights fixed put the windcreens back in fix the rust and we'd be driving her now
the minister for love and war wants it made a little pretty, so its getting paint and trim and a fancy oldskool tray

That's a bit of a shame. I think the patina it has now is perfect - you can't pay for that look!

I like to go boating and fish feeding...
Every now and then, I might actually catch something...Here is my PB Flattie caught on soft plastics in about 1.5m

I live in Newcastle and fish in Lake Macquarie. It's a massive lake (biggest salt water lake in the southern hemisphere) and it has taken me quite some time to get it know it a bit. Now any decent fisherman would never give away their secret spots, but I'm not a decent fisherman's so here you go... I caught this baby down near Murrays Beach But there are many, many more spots to catch these babies.... I let this one go after a few pics and and a lot of cheering!!!

I should have asked in my reply...Where abouts are you? I'd be happy to take you fishing if you are close to me?

Wow thanks for the offer but I'm down in East Gippsland in Victoria. I'm mad keen on fishing but am pretty useless. But I'm slowly improving. Even when there's no fish it's still nice to be out. |

It was given to me by a mate a few years back and I had no plans aprt from it looking cool in the front garden, + it was good for taking down the back of my block to get fire wood Then a mate asked to use it as part of his wedding so it got, um well I washed it Then things got busy and it just got left in the front garden until I finished building my house and wanted an under 12 months project The rust had taken its toll in the cabin with rust in the corners taking hold (only needed a floor when I got it) So it was time to take it out of the garden and pull it apart, I charged the battery up and pored some fuel down its throat and put some fuel in my little header tank on the fire wall and after the fuel was up to the carb this is how she ran http://youtu.be/yECZ1vupj6A My original plan was to just get it road worthy and drive it but the one who signs the cheques wants it made a little nicer, so it's getting a coat of paint, it won't be an over restored glamor just a clean old truck The problem I have is its GVM is 5ton that equates to 4.53 tonne so you need an LR licence to drive it, which is no problem for me but my wife and in 18months time my son only have car licences, so I'm getting the GVW lowered to 4.45 tonnes so it's car licence friendly, it'll never carry a proper load anyway so dropping a few kg's of capacity won't hurt me At the moment I'm 2/3 through the floor and other bits the back corners of the cab are done, I still have the front corners to do then it's time to fix up the body, As for trim I found a guy on Facebook who got a second one as a donor for his project and I've got a good seat from him so I'm leaving it in its black vinyl I also got a good second hand steering box off him so that's less I need to scrounge. I've also got a more hi way friendly 3.8 diff off a guy around the corner who did a rebody between a 57 truck and an F100 so that'll make my longer runs less of a chore

I am an ex-truckie and if I had the space and money I would fix it up, lots of people focus on cars and motorbikes and a lot of trucking history is missing out, one of my first truck driving jobs was driving a 1946 International KB6
and NO that is not me sitting there - LOL, I was 19 and it was 1976 when I was driving it

thanks for the info yeti, i thought it was a chevy. the pics really show off the patina and is priceless imo. some of the people are in period costume and the truck looks so cool. maybe you could hire it out for a movie prop, i had a work mate that did this. good idea about the gvm. you could always put in a sweet little turbo diesel and box and power steering, just an idea.

Here are some tools of the trade, when going bush chasing elusive game in remote locations.
Quality back pack, Ridgeline baseball style cap, Ridgeline beanie cap, Bushnell Binoculars, Bushnell Range Finder, basic Garmin GPS to find your car/campsite and game locations and a snake bite first aid kit. Of course also carry some food, and water

It's taken 65 years to develop that beautiful patina and you are going to paint it Restore/modify what you need to so that it's safe and reliable but leave the look alone IMHO. But hey, it's your truck .

Been very close twice that I know of, last summer stepped on a smallish king brown snake and it turned and bit my boot, lucky I wear leather boots.
Then about two months ago my dogs had a massive brown snake bailed up in the back yard, and without thinking and in a state of panic I put myself between the dogs and the snake, lucky snake decided to head the other way. We get several snakes a year around the house and see plenty out every day, I car a snake bite kit in my work truck and personal car as well. As well as Vitamin C Injectables for anyone/thing that gets bitten. Here is a baby brown on our front door step: Here is some photos I snapped while out walking the dogs: And here is the bugger that I stepped on that bit my boot, if you look closely you can see where I stepped on it, it was just outside our hay store shed, I am assuming it was there fir the mice, and it's still there somewhere as I am yet to catch it:

A pic from the same trip as above. Unfortunately the battery on my mates camera died shortly after this shot was taken and we did not get any more on that trip.
The strip we just took off from can be seen in the top right-hand corner, the airport is to the centre right, Fulham prison is slightly left of centre, and Loy Yang power station can be seen centre top. This trip we flew from West Sale over my mates house in Sale, then down to Seaspray, up the beach to Golden Beach, tracked back along the south bank of Lake Wellington, headed north to Stratford, across to Maffra, out to Lake Glenmaggie than back to West Sale. Took about 1.5 hours flying time. Haven't been out for a couple of months now (due weather and being busy with other activities) so am hoping to get out this Sunday if the weather holds.
