I was at a swapmeet a few years back and rummaging through the vintage car club shed I found a Mazda RX2 rear bumper, took it up to the counter and the guy said $10 thanks, I said ok here you go and got the hell outta there. Sold it a year later for $150!!

Back in Mid 08 picked up a mint leather BA XR interior for $700. Rocked up at the guys house and he was parting out the entire car. Did a deal for $4500 for xr6t motor+looms+ecu, box, shaft, full LSD IRS assembly with only 50,000km on the clock. Missed out on flash tuner with custom tune for that engine for $200 more.. ran out of cash

I have a couple of missed ones:

A recently discovered a missed opportunity on a XB Coupe, factory v8 auto rolling shell. Mate of mine had it in his paddock for several years before selling it to a passer by for $500 :(

Another one was a 185kw EL XR8 with 140***km on the clock, perfect drive-away order, $1500. Still regretting that one.

Last one i can remember was an imported 74 Cougar XR7, 351w auto complete and running $5000. Import costs alone wouldve been $3k. Havent found even close to that price since.

As for what I have scored, the best I did was a ZB Fairlane needing resto, for free.

My LTD I picked up earlier this year for $500 just to get it off a work colleague's lawn.

Did a bit of research and found most of the LTD's of that era were around $2k upwards.

I snapped it up, found out later all she'd paid for it was a carton of beer! Oh well, still a half decent bargain for myself.

Lucky QLD'ers.. I pay 75c for mine as it's the only one in town, usually 68c if I go a bit further to another town. Not sure what it's like in Syd.

It's a worry buying a cheap car, you kind of expect there to be a reason for it's cheapness, and in most cases there is... but, 6 months on, the only 'problems' that have cost me money is new plugs/leads and radiator.. although I've put a 10" Heavy Duty clutch in it, XR6 springs, LPG conversion, High performance tires, Kenwood head unit... all fine and Running great!

lol yeah, I prefer the EF looks as well, but this was too good to refuse.. forgot to mention it's a futura and came with lightweight flywheel and 2.5" exhaust.. plus I got some EF tail lights to put on it

Got offered a private dance from my friend at a gentleman’s club for a good price. ‘Let me grab my wallet’

Finished the dance. Didn’t have to pay a cent.

How on earth did she stuff that one up!!
Similarly, I filled up fuel at a BP once, $80, smokes, $15, two drinks, $6, chips, $5. Gave the attendee three fifty dollar bills and I got back two of them(I wasn't paying attention so I just took them) and then a fistful of twenties and a ten. Total cost of purchases? $106. Total cost to me? -$25.50. Yes that's right, I profited 25.50. Win! I went and got hammered to celebrate and subsequently lost all of the money.

Nothing real special but im always looking out for a good buy.

Picked up a Manual EF Ecu for $80 back when they were fetching $200+

Bought a VL commodore for $500 earlier this year as a rally car, paid rego of about $175, sold the venetian blinds out of it for around $250. Thrashed the guts out of it, crashed it a bit an sold it to a guy i know for $500. Bargain rally car :P

Back in 2005 I bought my XC wagon for $700. Stock 250, 3-on-the-tree manual, no rust, couple of dents, but perfectly good. Was out in Jandowae, which I guess is why no-one wanted it - too far to travel.

It failed the first RWC, passed the second after I paid all of $100 to fix it up, and the rest is history.

Conversely, sold the guards from it the other week for $480 to a bloke in the middle of WA to assist in his XC panelvan resto. Sometimes I love eBay...

More recently I bought two re-kitted B2 LPG convertors (metal hat ones) for $10 each at a swapmeet. They're over $200 each new...

Mate and I once got a lap dance at the mens gallery. Gave the girl $20 each.

Dance went for ages, and she was treating both of us real nice. I'm thinking 'she wants me' . Bargain!

20 mins later when the dance was over, we both went to get a drink and when we got our wallets out to pay we realised we had each given her $50!!

Well Not exactly car related.

We got an Acer 81cm LCD TV from Big W for $100.00

Just right time right place.
Had no remote but I got a universial remote quite cheap.

From what I make out it was not a display TV, but one that was used to adverstise things on a shelf end.

But for the price, who cares?

Running, with a Pre crossflow 250 3.3

Visiting my old uncles place 4 years ago and went for a walk up the shed to find him. Found a 67 XR falcon 500 wagon with original motor etc and very little rust sitting behind the shed and could not keep my eyes off it. My uncle asked if I liked the car and I said yes so he gave it to me for free. He even trailered it to my place for nothing. I still have the car now and its in the middle of resto.

Earlier this year.. Around march or april I cant remember, I had been looking for a cheap XD/XE v8 to muck around and fix up for burnout comps. Got a text message from my brother about an advertisement for a XE Fairmont 351 with rego for $2500 at the shopping centre in Muswellbrook. Expecting something pretty rough I went and had a look at the car and test drove it. It had fresh 351 cleveland that went really well, interior was in mint condition with not a single tear or stain, mint dash etc and chrome mag wheels. The sear seat looks like its never been sat on. Went home and 2 days later rang him and asked if he would sell it without the mags and offered him $1800. He said nah and rang back 5 minutes later and said $1900 and its yours. I drove straight in and drove it home. He also mentioned I can have another XE S-pac for nothing if I wanted it. I went back a few days later and towed it home as well.

So for $1900 I got two cars, the XE with fresh 351 clevo, auto, mint interior and straight body and 6 months rego......and an XE S-pac parts car with worked 250 xflow, manual, lowered springs and koni adjustables. According to the old rego label the s-pac use to have custom number plates "SLO84". Kind of hints at what lies within lol.... BARGAIN!
