Im pretty sure the ATO have made it clear the payment will be made over a 6 WEEK PERIOD... not 6 day or 6 hour period....

From some of the replys here its obvious to me now how politics works.. its about pleasing the greedy bottom feeders with feel good handouts...

The reaction to this handout is akin to the cues at centrelink on dole day, and proceeding session at the pokies or pub.

Its surprising how many here expected to get it in the first couple of days. I never expected to get mine for a few weeks yet.

First day even.. Its rather bizzare actually...
Some people have already spent it or committed it and are sweating on getting it to cover the debt... it makes no sense..

That is the part that I don't get. How can you spend something that you don't have yet?

I disagree. Imagine if heaps of people preemptively spent $900 (and frequently more), only to find out they wouldn't get it, so the economy gets stimulated at no cost to the government. Kevin Rudd would therefore be a financial genius.

I'm aware of all the current infrastructure and public works, I meant for ALL of the money to go into it, not handing out cash to the punters.

Well, i just finished paying my monthly accounts, at 12.10am, 10 minutes into my 25th birthday. The sum total was alittle over $11,000 for 1 months trading. Honestly, what the hell is $900 going to do for the average punter? I still maintain you (being the government) might as well send everyone $100,000 cheque. Hell it wont be worth the paper its written on, but atleast people will be able to buy there PS3's, plasmas and other crap all in 1 hit, rather than having to decide what pointless luxury is more worthy of there stimulus package hand out.

My GF''s turned up in the mail yesterday, perfect for us as this cash will go towards the final bits and pieces we need before moving to our first house in may.

Agreed 100% with onfire, hearing of people screaming for this money to catch up on newly aquired debt is a bit silly, it's a $900 bail out package for some familys (Or $1800 if it's a dule income household) spend it on making yuor life a bit easier for the next few months, treat yourselves to a movie or dinner out you couldn't afford, not 30% deposit on that new Plasma..

Indeed, all I've seen them say is "taxpayers" not "adult taxpayers". I think it would be good to include the kids - they're the ones that will go out and spend it straight away, boosting the economy.

dude, read the thread, it comes to you via whichever method you ticked for your tax return to come in. so if your return came via EFT then so will your bonus etc...

When you go to that Gov web page that helps you calculate how much you will be receiving, it asks if you where under 18 in 2008, if you click Yes, then it says you do not receive any payments.

EDIT: Sorry, I should have provided the link:

it doesn't say you won't be receiving payments, it says you can't use the calculator and to call the hotline and work it out with a service rep.

"
As you were under 18 years of age at 30 June 2008, you cannot use this calculator.

Please phone 1300 686 636 to determine your eligibility and to calculate the estimated amount of tax bonus you may receive.

Sam, didn't you admit to doing this very thing in a post earlier? You said you've got credit cards to pay off. Isn't that actually spending money you don't have?

Theoretically if you are a taxpaying full time time student, then you should be getting the two payments.

I got the student one. Would've been annoyed if I didn't get it.
Rego $550, Tafe fees $274, Speeding bs fine $220.

Didn't even get to see it. Getting it saved a lot of grief though lol.
