Nothing wrong with pushrods. The 'pushrod tractor engine' was viewed as equal or better to the BOSS 5.4s. If it ain't broke why fix it?

Meanwhile....the red team have a solid line up with incremental technologies that are attractive for their punters and sway them to upgrade en masse.

At Ford.....we harken back to the past to help sell cars to nostalgic old fools.
At HSV ....they look forward to to help sell cars to savvy young execs and middle class BOGAN rich.

The majority demographic is not on Ford's side..........
^^ is on to something there too.

Its been pretty solid in the last 10 years though. FPV. GT and F6 have been regulars. XR6 still continuing on from the 90s as Fords entry level giant killer. XR8s name was mud by the end they really had no choice but to rename it. The model lineup is no more confusing than any out there if you aren't familiar with it. I actually think FPVs current lineup is very simple.

Holden/HSV have been about the same in that time. Removing GTS then bringing it back. Ditching the base Clubby. Plenty of limited editions and short lived models. SS been watered down etc

I cant wait, I'm glad it's rolling out again from the Broadmeadows plant!
So should every Ford person, this is the home of Ford Australia.
It makes sence to build them there, when times are tuff you consolidate your busness and do as much as you can in house.

If you truely bleed Blue you should understand that there is more at stake here!
Workers, families, local store persons and so on.

Bring on Monday, i will be happy to see the GT or whatever it is roll out from Ford.

I'll disagree there, Geelong is the home of Ford Australia.
But I agree 100% on the rest.

Not really.
GTS disappeared during VZ, but at a guess that was more to do with the naming reshuffle for VE. As you may know from 2000 until 2004 the GTS was a $100k car and R8 was $80k. When VE was released the R8 became the new $80k GTS and the base clubby became the R8 for around $60k.

SS was the same. After the exec V8 disappeared, Holden introduced the $40k SV8. A poverty pack with mags and bland interior for a little more $$ than the old exec. SS was upgraded in a lot of areas such as standard leather and climate control etc. when VE released the New version of SV8 got better and renamed SS and the comforts of SS remained and became SSV. The prices of VZ sv8 to VE SS, vz SS to ve SSV, vz clubby to VE R8 and VZ R8 to ve GTS align to show that

Are the public stupid.......
You mean the same public that consume copious amounts of fatty fast food , cancer causing low sugar soft drinks and cigarettes by the truck load........ ?

The issue here is that these cars are tribal......you buy what's in your blood.......regardless if the opposition is better or not.
I just think that we Ford buyers hang on to our stuff for longer. We are more reluctant to upgrade. We bicker amongst ourselves more......and the car we own is always much better than the new release.....

In fact......a 20 year old ford is soooooo much better that anything FPV have to offer now.......right ?

Good luck to Ford PR tomorrow.....I hope they do well.

Am I missing something here? If it is just the first GT on the 'Ford' production line since 1976, what is the big deal? To the public, Ford has been making GTs continuously for over 10 years now. They don't care whether it's under an FPV banner or not. The public see it as a Ford Falcon GT, not FPV GT anyway.

It better be something a little more special than them saying 'hey we're not sending them across the road to be finished off anymore.'

FPV have had an engine advantage for what, the last couple of years? Prior to the Miami motor, HSV always had the better motor. And the LS3 is a cracker, I suggest you take one for a drive - if you say you have and it was no good, you're a liar. The pushrod argument is something Ford fans held on to because their higher tech 5.4 was slower and they had no excuses besides calling the LS motors too big (it's a muscle car, the motor is supposed to be big) and that somehow having pushrods makes it a bad motor, how ridiculous. If anything I prefer the pushrod motor, it sounds better, it's reliable, easy to work on and loves a cam.

Just because it isn't as fast as a GT doesn't mean it isn't fast at all. HSV have offered a total product that goes well beyond that FPV have been doing - which is putting a big motor and brakes in an XR6, essentially. A GTS comes with wider rears standard (no $85k R-Spec badge required), a better tuned chassis with MRC, EDI, blind zone alert, adaptive cruise, the list goes on. That is why more people aren't jumping ship, they can see past the motor (which is hard for some people but for $70k you look at the whole car).

This is why I hope that they bring more to the table with the new production arrangement, otherwise HSV will keep eating them.

Part of the issue is as far back as when the Cleveland was dropped from the XE range we had the crazy situation where the the past vehicles were better than the new ones. XE v8 vs XF efi 250 anyone?

This carried on until the inevitable return of the 5.0 Windsor in the EB. With progressively better versions and increasing sales, then came the BA with the 5.4 boss which was peaky and slow revving at the same time. Yep they are fundamentally good and can make huge HP but take big bucks to do so. But the "lesser" T6 could smoke it without trying. But the tribes like v8's.

In the meantime GMH have gone 308 , to 304 to LS1 to LS2 neat progression, so when it time to renew your lease the new one is better than the old one. Simple.

I just think it is really splitting hairs to be marketing something if it is just saying that this is no longer an FPV GT but a Ford GT. A Ford is a Ford is a Ford.

with that logic we would still have carbies and distributors. we would not be doing this as there would be no internet or home computers because our previous method of getting information was not broken it was just inefficient ( sounds like antiquated push rod technology to me) you say the pushrod engines are equal or better than the boss 5.4! maybe you are right this is a design that has been superseded by a better design as that particular engine had design shortcomings and is not a current falcon engine . you are comparing a currently used engine to an obsolete engine where I was comparing 2 engines that are currently in production in Australian cars. the 5.0 Ford engine will smack anything Holden currently produce and has far more development potential so I stand by my Question " are the general public stupid" ( or just brainwashed that buying a Holden id the option with the most Australian content)

In my opinion the GTS disappeared at the end of the VY run because really $100k against the GT at under $59k and only 10 kw difference in power, not worth the extra $40k, in fact alot of the comparision back in the the put the GT ahead overall. Until the VE came along always thought HSV's were overpriced. ( and ugly )

You do realize that the 4 speed EFI 250 was line ball with the 351 slug in the XE.....yes......The 302 wasnt even in the race. The actual on road performance was an eye opener.

ford have a bad habit of killing things off rather than working on them and thinking outside the square. Just like they got burnt in the early 80s with killing off the V8.....I hope they don't get burnt by killing off FPV...

I'm keen to see what they do tomorrow. Regardless of what happens....the build up is exciting !

Which was sort of my point. The poster I was originally responding too was saying Ford were all over the place with their performance offerings. As you've just said Holden has done a fair bit of name shuffling/deleting so are really no better.

No......
My original point was the ethos of where Ford performance has come from over the last 40 years.

With Holden , it was Brocky and HDT ....which produced some brilliant vehicles and then HSV.. Club sport and GT'S have undergone a myriad of changes , but the staple is there.

Ford have gone from pillar to post. From factory , to nothing , to 3rd party offshoots to Tickford / Prodrive , FPV .....back to Ford and who knows where in 12 months time.......

They've done GT , GS , Cobra .......the latter 2 are unlikely to reappear from Ford so maybe they need to re do the ESP !!!!...... Maybe that's what tomorrow is about.....after all the ESP name was born back in the late 70s with the XD.
That would be a laugh....hey.

You'd have to really get off on peak power figures to think the LS1 is any better than the 304.

Same with the VL to VN. No neat progression there. Just because we're Ford people and we have less exposure to Holdens, doesn't mean that everything Holden does is perfect. As far as I'm concerned, Holden have made a fair few more mistakes regarding engine offerings over the years.
