That sounds quite nice.

But IMO, the bonnet bulde belongs on the 8. I don't see the attraction to it, as it is promoting something the car doesn't have. BUT that is MY OPINION!

As for the rest if your plans, post a pikky when you are done, i would like to see it.

Cheers

I'll try and see if they have some guidelines in black and white for you Falkeen..
Also due to the nature of Fibre glass and Carbon fibre, when a frontal impact accrues, the Fibre inforced bonnet can act as a guillotine, slicing through the windscreen and decapitating those in the front seats of the car.... Apparently you can get ADR approved bonnets, there is a place in QLD that supposely makes them. But I have since lost there name and location..

true but depends on how well heat tested the carbon fibre is. All quality to AWC and the like, but it would probably crumble in accidnet...

I would go the scoops.
Bulges belong on XR8's.
Make sure its different to the Holden setup, and make sure it's done properly. Have seen quite a few dodgy scoop installs.

bulges and scoops are ok only if they were designed to go on that car and fitted in the FACTORY! i.e Bulge on XR8, GT and Pursuit only. oh and only BA/BF. NOT AU, EL, EF, ED. ETC, ETC

The properties of a pure CF bonnet mean it would basically explode into dust when grossly overloaded like that.
CF over glass would behave as fibreglass alone would, cracking and splintering into chunks.

You're assuming the front and rear mounting points will shear off but the bonnet will remain basically intact.
That is possible with a 'cosmetic' carbon fibre bonnet (1 layer of CF over glass) like those you can get for $699 for a rice-burner off ebay.
Then again doubtful they would be rigid enough to go through the windscreen.
No contest from me that junk like that could be dangerous.

A properly designed and made CF bonnet is stiffer and stronger than steel despite weighing much less.
If using a Kevlar interlayer (or Kevlar hybrid intralayer) this not only significantly increases its resistance to damage (eg puncturing) but also prevents the structure from desintegrating. It will be irrepairably damaged if subjected to enough force but will remain whole.
Sandwich core construction plays a part in designs like this too.

The method of fabricating mounting points and bonding them into the laminate come into it also.

Done well, a composite bonnet would mimic the general behaviour of a stock item (ie remain attached at all 3 mounting points while folding up) but absorb MORE energy in being destroyed than steel.

If the car has hit something with enough force to propell a bonnet through the windscreen, likey you would be lucky to be alive before it hit you anyway.
Remember car safety tests are done at 56kmh. Frontal impact speeds over that are considered generally unsurvivable.

Have to say Iam both, Bulge and Scoop, and in the case of my car BOTH are funcional, many hate the Shaker, but I got used to it on earlier Falcons, and still like having it on the car.

Thanks Jake.. Great post....

But due to the EBay special.. In QLD the carbon fibre is illegal unless it is built by a ADR certified manufacture...

Like I said,, It can/could happen.. But in most cases it won't.... I only stumbled across this situation when i contacted my insure about getting a a carbon fibre fitted.. They were the one that informed me that I can only fit it if it is ADR approved...

Hope I'm not doubling up, but City Ford in Melbourne have a couple of GT's with shakers in their showroom. Took a couple of snaps for my son to have a look at when picking up my Typhoon last week. Will post if anyone is interested. Took them for my 14yo son (well OK myself as well).

I assume FF Sponsors such as AWC and eQuibs sell ADR approved CF items then, would I be right?

Iv always thought about the bonnet on the evo. You can buy the cut outs with the two holes might be good for letting out engine heat but im wondering how useful they will be in the rain

Is that a bulge in your bonnet or are you just happy to see me.

For my two cents worth, being an EF/EL fan. I cant go past the bulge with the XR cat scratches either side... Looks wicked!!

White VZ here with the same thing. He gets a bit annoyed when I ask him if he is compensating for something.

Jabba, wouldnt this apply to all mods including exhaust, induction, wheels and tyres etc etc...an insurance company would do anything to refuse a claim, which would mean that alot of cars would have problems with insurance and does that would put thoses other at Jeopardy?

Bulge for me. It would be the first thing I did to a ba/bf xr6.

there is a maroon AU sedan in my area that has been parked on the side of the road for sale. It has the BA bulge. Stopped to have a look and I reckon it looks awesome.

there is also an XH ute (painted in blueprint) with a BA bulge put on it but that looked a bit ridiculous IMO.

Um. What's the point of the picture attached to your post? From that angle, you can't even see the bonnet!
