now you are just being silly. 1. I don't have a problem with Wheels mag, just the some of the lame comparisons in this article. 2. If the Mustang got 2 stars it gets two stars. That is Ford's fault and no one else is to blame. 3. Where did I write or convey Wheels hates Ford??? 4. Commodore? Photoshop? Down with GM? Is that a joke? 5. I do object to you taking liberties and distorting what I have posted. 6. I am surprised as I thought you were better than this. Bill.

Really shocking results if they are true and relatable to the scoring system done on FG. To be in the same league as a Daewoo and a non-descripit chinese Van is really something unforgivable. If that's how the yanks make their vehicles, we really have lost something good with the end of Aus made vehicles. How many people's lives have been saved by the sturdy engineering of locally made Falcons I wonder...

Back to topic I wonder if the 2018 Mustang will qualify for another ANCAP test when it appears. Bill.

Interesting that ancap isn't compulsory for all vehicles though. I guess most, if not all manufacturers would have their own internal testing criteria to pass. |

I nearly ran into a new Audi on the M1 the other day , it just slowed expectantly or seemingly without reason , I think it must had been some technology at play. In Qld we travel within 10m of the car in front at 100 , caught me by surprise. Luckily my crash avoidance kicked in on my 2005 Statesman . I kicked it back to second real quick , kamikaze lane change , and avoided it.
Thank god my eyes and arms worked along with my legs and feet. Great technology.

What an absolute beat up with a massive ZERO care factor.
NO ONE is buying or NOT buying a Mustang based on its safety. It's a sports/muscle car.

A lot of emotion and indignation.
As a relevant comparision, can we ignore “ Ford, price, value, performance “ for a bit, and somebody name a car ( simply 4 wheels, from A to B ), that has been released within the last 2 years, and is currently available on the Australian market. Be it a BMW, Merc, Mahindra, Great Wall, whatever .... what were those results to get some sort of perspective into this debacle. |

Rate the effing cars the same and score them accordingly. Make sure your test criteria is consistent. I agree get rid of ANCAP and use EURO or the US system. So Mustang is rated differently in ANCAP criteria to other cars tested at the same time ? Because it's on their site stating an ANCAP result. God help anyone trying to explain this BS to anyone. It's all effing BS !!!! |

For example, a 5 star FG to FGX Falcon would have its date stamp of 2008. A current model Mondeo would have its 5 star rating dated 2015 (or there about). The theory being that a consumer can see that Mondeo's same star rating would be of greater value to the Falcon's that was rated before further advancements in technology. The reality is all the cumsumer see's is the star rating in the brochure. As I have said, these organisations are poorly relating information to the consumers they are supposed to be helping.

You won't see the ANCAP chief call a press conference to explain that one yet they picked on the Mustang purely because of its sales success.

I am willing to buy any ones unsafe Mustang for 10k cash. Do it before you crash it . Seriously we would all have an XY Phase 3 in a heartbeat , who cares about the rating apart from the insurance cost implication. If I could afford a Mustang I would have one . I would love a 69 Fast back really but a new one would do. Anyone who says because of the lack of electronic aids , crash avoidance and 2 stars etc they will now not buy one, probably should not have one. Go do a advanced driving course then rethink.

Forget the stars or whether one crash safety routine is applicable to another: Would an FGX have suffered the door opening, the safety cell being as tested, or the driver's head hitting the steering wheel before the airbag deployed in an identical test?

Send one to Europe and get the Euro NCAP team to do the test in 2017. Your question would then be answered. |

The safety requirements are pretty much identical for structural worthiness. It actually looks like Falcon would of scored close to 5 stars under the new regime too.

Longer doors popping open during a crash test was the reason they canned the P76 two door.

G'day all...BUGGER ME....What's bloody going on ?...Another thing that astounds me..I got into a bit of trouble (fair enough too) for posting video links in general discussions etc...However....I've been replying to the Ford ads topic today and pointed out about the plethora of Ford ads in the USA .. Most are posted on You Tube.. In the end one led to an actual review /walk around of the 2017 Ford Fusion... Bloody incredible..
. Safety features and technology by the bucket load although I'm not sure necessarily on crash rating yet in comparison to the Mustang rating Re this thread. Get this though ...The 2.7 litre V6 ecoboost all wheel drive is apparently faster to 0-60 than the 5 litre V8 Mustang and is virtually identical to 0-100 mph as well.. It puts out 325 Hp and 380 ft lbs of torque in a four door sedan and eats it's main competitors for lunch. This now s...s me to tears. No RHD , no-one in Europe gets it because of the Focus and Mondeo so we almost certainly won't get it either of course..Tiny RHD market rules it out I'll bet ya..Bloody nice bit of kit and being a V6 Turbo would give the new Commie a run for it's money in an ideal world..There are other engine options aplenty too.. Watch the video in the link I added in the Video thread and tell me it's not worth a look at least if it ever came to OZ.. Cheers Rod.. |

and in other news.......
1000's of people today took to the roads on their bicycles and motor bikes. Each one of them did so knowing they had - zero side impact protection, zero passenger protection, almost zero driver protection, zero pedestrian protection, and zero electronic aids such as lane departure ect. Why haven't they banned all these other forms of transport that offer pretty much zero protection?

That's what I want to know. If the FG-X or VF Commodore doors flew open in a pole test or the dummy bashed his head on the steering wheel before it inflated, the whole rating system is a farce, like the stupid 'moose test'. Isn't the whole point to avoid swerving or hitting poles in the first place?
