^^^ Whilst i do appreciate your plight, I have also been on tank water on my block, buying water for 15 years at least. I think you can also agree this is the best sprinkling we have had for a long time?

similar to what happened here in newcastle back in 07, theres still things being fixed. It took some people over a month to get a new car. People got screwed by the insurance companys left right and center. Alot of people wern't able to afford new cars after their payout so they had to pick what they could from the second hand market which left a huge hole for the next 12 months and then there were the unfortunates who didnt have insurance who tried to trade their cars that had very obvious water damage, we wouldnt even consider their trade in.

Yes the premiums went through the roof afterwards due to the fact the region has had at least 3 mojor events in just over 50 years major flooding in 1955, huge storm in 74 or 76 often refered to as the sygna storm after the ship that ran aground on stockton beach then the 07 storm which left one of the main streets in newcastle 6' deep under water and a big **** container ship 'pascha bulker' on nobbys beach, and there was the earthquake in 87.

With our weather becoming more and more irregular I'm sure the companys will be rubbing their hands together even more, I might consider buying some shares. : :

just one more thing, will the government be able to find a way to blame this on hoons like they seem to do with everything else : :

Well the rain is finally easing up here. Thankfully didn't get any of that nasty hail. Over 4 inches of rain since Friday night. Nothing compared to our Queensland counterparts. It's been fantastic but I'm far from calling the drought over.... and I see farming first hand everyday.

Not quite Melbourne but around here (Wagga Wagga NSW) we got drenched - started last night and has literally only just stopped in the last half hour or so. I had to drive to my parents place today and actually got turned back because the road and railway line were underwater - XPT stopped in its tracks for about 4 hours and going by the amount of water that was there it wouldnt surprise me if it was still stuck there. Went the long way round and parts of the road around 2-500m were under water (but still driveable).

Bloody good rain - lawn looks better than it ever has but its a real shame I dont have a tank to collect some of it. Dad has over 50,000L storage and they were overflowing this afternoon - I think he's ordering another tank tomorrow :hihi:.

My mates 4 month old VE SSV ute is dented in every panel apart from the tailgate, my mates wife 2 month old Kluger has hail damage all over it.

Both possible write offs.

Its kinda funny (in a sad way), the tailgate is normally the first thing to get dented on utes.

^^That's gold! "OMFG! Bazza, show Chezza the size of that f'n hailstone! OMFG!"

In all seriousness though, as long as there's no life lost, anything else can be replaced. I can imagine it would be a terrible thing to go through, having your house and car damaged. Hopefully, before too long everything will be back to normal.

Yes , finger's crossed that all of our catchment's recieved some of this downpour, it look's like some of that heavy rain that come down from Deni-Shep and then accross to Melb may have hit the Campaspe and lower coliban, hopefully.

Hail pummels Melbourne car yards

Dealers face damage bill in the millions after hail smashes car stocks in Victoria

8 March 2010

By RON HAMMERTON

DOZENS of Melbourne car dealers are counting the cost of Saturday’s massive hailstorm which damaged hundreds of new and used cars on forecourts across the eastern suburbs.

The damage bill to cars alone is expected to run into millions of dollars, with dealers already signaling plans to hold “hail damage” sales at discounts of up to $15,000 to clear away the mess.

Hail stones as big as tennis balls dented panels and smashed windows as the storm – a remnant of the same tropical system that inundated areas of Queensland and New South Wales last week – cut a swathe across the middle of the Melbourne metropolitan area in what has been described as a one-in-100-year hail storm.

One of the worst-hit areas was the outer eastern suburb of Ferntree Gully, where the largest hail scored a bull’s-eye on about 12 dealerships lined up in a popular car shopping strip on Burwood Highway.

In scenes reminiscent of Sydney’s Parramatta Rd disaster some years ago, almost every vehicle parked in the open suffered some damage. Broken rear windows also let torrential rain flow into the cars, compounding the problem.

Toyota dealer Gavin Werner, of Graham Werner Toyota, told the Herald Sun that only 40 or 50 of his stock of 230 new cars and 110 used cars had escaped damage in the storm.

Mr Werner, who valued his stock at $8 million, said he had watched helplessly from the showroom on Saturday afternoon as the hail hammered the cars, some of which he believed would have to be written off.

He said the dealership had been preparing for a grand opening of its new Burwood Highway facility.

“Now we are going to have a hail sale instead of a grand opening,” he was quoted as saying.

Thousands of private cars were also pummeled, showing evidence of glass damage and dimpled panels over a wide area, from Nunawading to Belgrave in the Dandenong Ranges.

In inner areas of the city, more damage was caused when dozens of cars were trapped in flooded streets. In many cases, the hail was so thick on the ground that it blocked storm water drains. Shredded leaves brought down by the hail also contributed to the problem.

Some of the more minor hail damage to car panels will be repaired using suction techniques, but others hit by the biggest hail stones are being assessed to see if they are worth repairing.

Unlike many car dealers in the northern states where hard lessons have been learned about hail damage, few Melbourne dealers have hail netting to protect vehicles stored in the open air, as hail in the southern state is rarely sufficiently big to cause panel damage.

Most manufacturers, however, pay to store wholesale new-vehicle stocks under protective netting at storage facilities such as ManheimFowles and Prixcar, just in case.

Maybe some good discounts out there through auctions? They would all make good parts cars.

Went to have a closer inspection of my car. Not one panel survived.

My windscreen is being replaced tomorrow morning. Looks like someone has shot 50 golf balls at it.

Bumper, guards, doors, bonnet, roof, boot..

All extensively damaged.

Fingers crossed it's not a write off.

If it is, there will be parts for sale quick smart..

Didnt have time to look through all the posts here, so not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but you can use dry ice to remove some of the smaller dints, someone on here actually posted this video a while back, I think it would actually work, but contracting the metal with the cold dry ice can possibly cause paint damage, but people swear by it, use it at your own risk I guess. There is another video on there about using a hair dryer to remove dints, havent watched it yet.

What does everybody think? Risky?

^thanks for the tip. Small dents are the hardest to get out, after creases/kinks (which are impossible).

To find all the small dents use a U/V fluro light and pass it over your car any miniscule dents will look huge. This is what the PDR guys use.

Oh well, look on the bright side. With all these aerodynamic dimples, everyone's cars should drive faster and further, and with more precision.

I can't really answer your question, not becuase it's rhetorical but mainly because I'm not really all that filled with joy about everyone's cars being soured, and neither have I been joyous when similar events have happened to myself. Haven't you ever taken a leaf from the gospel that is the Life of Brian?

'when you life's a piece of ********, just take a look at it, always look on the bright side of life *whistle*'

I guess you're one of those glum types, and not the type to laugh at something even when you're lying in the gutter with pocket lint for wealth, or just got kicked in the balls by your offpsring.

Amazing! I have to see that. I didn't know it was actually possible on a larger scale, though now that you say so I remember that air always scales up/down proportionately. Thanks for the pointer, I'll lookup what episode it was.
