Wow, go the old thread! LOL!

Anyway, can anyone tell me where some good places to go to get windows tinted, or some places best avoided?

Tints on the BA are the next thing on my list after the immobiliser, which is going in this coming Friday.
I've noticed that the windows are already pretty dark anyway, so with darkest legal tint they should look good.

I got my XD tinted at Solace about 6 months before I got the BA, but when I called to get a quote from them this time they have closed down.

Yeah but the one that closed down was maybe a 10 minute walk from my house.
Now I'll have to go a fair way out of my way for it, which is just such a hassle when my only day off during the week is also the one day everyone else at home is busy and can't pick me up/drop me off.

The next closest place is a Solartint, so I might have to go there.

I found that in my old XD as well. Darkest legal wasn't really all that dark.

I believe that is the main factor in being pulled over for some people, however my bro has had his car for half a year, darkest legal tint (I believe), super lows with the after market el gt copies-17" wheels. He hasn't been pulled over ever, and he drives everyday, all day - work. off his p's mid next year - so I doubt the cops will be hard on him when he does get pulled over, on his full license.

As soon as I get my car registered, that will be the first thing I do - is get darkest legal tint.

My old man has illegal tint, hasn't been pulled over in the year he's had his car. Well, the last time he was pulled over was probably 10 years ago in an shiate box!. =)

I hear ALOT of people getting pulled up because of a tint inspection - and other stuff, but not a relative as of yet :P

Got the not less than 35% of the visual light (VLT) is transmitted via the tinted windows tint by Vita care done on the Fairlane. This complies with the Western Australia raod transport legistation. They claim it blocks out 99% of the uv rays in the 280 to the 380 nanometre range which is a UPF 50+ and reduces heat by 58% and the glare by 55%.Don't know about that, but it does look good and the car is cooler, so i'm pretty happy with it and would recommend.

Even the most maximum legal tint isnt going to stop glare in your eyes from the sun when the sun is pointing directly at you. The tint only adds value when you want to remain mysterious cruising through the night.

Got Formula1's from Tint-a-car.......primarily to add safety to interior as well as help little bit of glare against the sun.........also reduces heat by up to 70%.......

Yeh, that's how I feel. No intensions either to tint the 'lane. Classics just don't look right with tint.
They have to have clear glass to look the part.

However the daily driver XF has had it done.

I assume most people here know that tinting is illegal at less than 35% light transmittance because you have difficulties in seeing out of a vehicle with anything darker, especially at night! I read somewhere that someone hit a car because they didn't see it due to their illegal tint.

A cars front windscreen has an excellent UPF, but as we all know, poor heat protection, but can't be tinted for obvious reasons. That only leaves you with the side windows.

I had our wagon tinted with a Ming tint, but I couldn't legally get the rear windows darker, but if it was a work vehicle I could have!
I left it all legal because I didn't want to risk any insurance claims (touch wood that I don't have to) being a problem.

There are many different types of glass. Most are indistinguishable to the human eye, but they provide very different amounts of protection against solar UVR. The Protection Factor (PF) measures the decrease in UV light transmitted by a material. A PF of 50 means there is a 50-fold reduction in the amount of UVR transmitted. Some examples are:

Window Glass UV Protection Factors (PF/UPF):
Car side windows 12/12
Car windscreen (laminated) 75/50+
Window glass (house) 10/10
Office building glass 80/50+

UPF Protection Category:
10 - Moderate Protection
20 - High Protection
30 - Very High Protection
40 - Excellent Protection
50+ - Excellent Protection

Tinting can increase the protection against solar UVR considerably. Measurements made at ARPANSA indicate that most tints applied to glass areas in cars provide excellent protection UPF 50+. There are even clear tints which rate at UPF 50+.

ive had every car of mine tinted and would never drive without it - it makes such a difference to the inside temperature and glare etc

darkest ive had is 18% on my patrol and my F6 which is just right, i find limo tint (8% i think) too dark at night..
28% is a good shade as well, just a bit darker than darkest legal which is SFA anyway..

yeh apparently the metalised film can disrupt your radio reception becuase teh antenna is in the glass or something..

It can interfere with radio reception, so they use a dyed film to match the other windows.
